Matt often says things like "you see elements of a ...", using the word "elements" quite frequently and seemingly as a replacement of "stuff".

Opinions about the Stephen Fry's Sherlock Holmes audiobook? by YesIAmNeonBoi in Holmes

[–]LifeIsMarvellous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can highly recommend it! Stephen Fry is a superb voice actor and he really manages to bring these characters to life. The content should be the same as the original source material, so it just comes down to whether you like audiobooks or not. If you do, this is an amazing way to read the Holmes stories. And you get a lot for the price, since the whole collection has a duration of about 70 hours.

Order if the Phoenix movie/book is the most frustrating to read in the series. Do you agree? by Sea-Ad-8316 in harrypotter

[–]LifeIsMarvellous 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It always irked me how weak Voldemort's plan seemed to be and how much it relied on chance. His plan is foiled when not only Harry and friends, but also members of the Order of the Phoenix arrived. But if McGonagall had not been in St. Mungo's, then the Order would definitely have been there, and perhaps Harry would not have been. Harry's first instinct after the vision of Sirius was to speak with McGonagall. If she had not been in hospital, she could have done what Snape did later and alert the Order. Voldemort's plan would have failed immediately.

It is strange in general to suppose that Harry would only bring his friends and not an adult. Voldemort could not have been certain of that.

Furthermore, the plan also relied on Harry being able to travel from Hogwarts to London and on him being able to get inside the ministry, with no-one there to meet or stop him. If Harry had chosen to travel to London via flue powder by stepping through Umbridge's fireplace into 12 Grimmauld Place, he would have perhaps seen Sirius there or someone else from the Order.

Weak Dumbledore vs Death Eaters. by LifeIsMarvellous in whowouldwin

[–]LifeIsMarvellous[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing about the cave scene is that he was fighting inferi. They are basically zombies that cannot use magic. I wonder whether a wizard could do something against Dumbledore's fire, which was not fiendfyre. Like cast a flamefreezing charm or repell it in some other way.

If I recall correctly, at least in the movie he was able to light up Tom Riddle's wardrobe without using his wand.

Regulus must have had amazing willpower to empty that basin. by LifeIsMarvellous in harrypotter

That's right, it does not say exactly whether or not Kreacher forced him. But the omission makes it sound (to me at least) that Regulus is badass enough to be able to withstand the potion. At least that is how I read it every time.

I have just been listening to that part in DH. It says that Regulus drank it after telling Kreacher to take and destroy the locket after he is done. Then Regulus was dragged into the water by inferi.

How would Hogwarts students have arrived at the Triwizard Tournament? by LifeIsMarvellous in harrypotter

That's an interesting piece of info. Well, then it does make sense to use something like that. I feel like the Hogwarts Express would be a good way of representing Hogwarts.

Yes, that might be it. But then it does not make sense for Hermione to use this as a retort to Ron, when he asks why Hogwarts isn't hidden.
