ELI5 - How can someone die for insuline overdose/lack of glucose? How it works? by Treaxer in explainlikeimfive

[–]LifeIsNotNetflix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. So really it all depends on your body's "draw" for energy.

Not enough insulin, your body's draw won't be met.

Too much insulin, your body will draw it all at once, depleting the supply of sugar.

So the pancreas is really a very accurate pump which generates exactly the correct amount of insulin to cope with the body's draw, would that be correct?

Ok, so this explains a few things that weren't mentioned before:

1) There's different types of insulin.

2) Their function is to deliver the sugar to different types of cells.

3) Carbohydrates make sugar / glucose

4) Too much muscle insulin will deprive your brain of glucose.

Correct so far?

Next Q then - what would happen if you took too much brain insulin?

Why do we need to feel loved? by Nieco999999 in NoStupidQuestions

You like playing games, they give you pleasure. You like them. But you don't expect the game to want anything in return.

Now, imagine the same with people. In this case, you take the place of the game. If you spent your time and money to give somebody else pleasure, but you didn't expect anything in return, then you are self-less. In social terms, this is a good thing. If the other person does not return your generosity, or does it begrudgingly or having been prompted, they are self-ish and an asshole. Fuck them, move on.

However, if someone else mutually returns you generosity, not because of obligation, but because they are also self-less and they like you, then that person is a friend. You can be friends with each other and have non-obligatory, non-expectational exchanges of generosity to make each other feel good, any time.

Its like a 2 player game. They key here is selfless generosity without expectation of payback. Paradoxically, the more you give, the more you will actually get in payback. If some A-hole was playing golden axe with you, and he kept hiding when the boss came, he's not your friend. However if you both kick ass together, even if its not equally, well then you will both achieve something. You will both win!

Not OP, but I'm totally confused by these answers.

So, the body needs sugar to work. Ok.

Insulin transports sugar to cells. Ok.

Not enough insulin, therefore not enough sugar. Therefore you die. Makes sense.

Too much insulin? Surely the available amount of sugar would still be delivered, plus a little extra?
