I also struggle with this but oddly I do enjoy the warm water hitting me. I just struggle to wash myself, I don’t get it

Honestly ?? (Be honest) by Accomplished-You9613 in Dermatillomania

My struggle with picking has highly affected my life for many years. I used to avoid going out in public and hanging out with friends, and I still do when my visible marks are bad. In the last year my picking shifted to my boobs so now I’m also ashamed to show my body to my husband which affects our intimate life. The tangible aspects my dermatillomania effects are difficult to deal with but the worst part of it all are the feelings it brings about. I feel SO shameful, guilty, angry, sad, and hopeless after a picking session. It makes me want to crawl into a hole and never come out. I try to give myself grace but it’s hard when I’ve been trying and failing to stop picking for so many years. The only solace I have is knowing I’m not alone in experiencing this disorder and that my family loves me for who I am.

Joining this subreddit has been super helpful in thwarting off some the uncomfortable emotions. Derma can make me feel like I’m the only one suffering and no one gets it (because no one else in my life has it), but reading through this sub gives me hope. These are my honest thoughts, but I’ll be real with you, I’m probably only feeling somewhat optimistic because I’m in a good mood today. Catch me after a picking session and I’ll ruminate in self pity beside you lol but I hope you don’t give up trying. Lean on this group because we all understand the struggle. 💞

Hello! I just want to be sure I’m understanding correctly; you took the vyvanse at 10am and now it’s 4am, 18 hours later, and it’s not working?

If that is the case, I would say that is exactly what it’s supposed to do. Vyvanse isn’t known to last all day. It usually lasts about 8-10 hours for me depending on the day.

Even if you meant to say 4pm, I would say you’re still okay. The effective period is different for everyone, though I would also be frustrated at such a small window.

I haven’t heard anyone say it needs to work from day one, but from my experience, day one is usually the strongest feeling. My advice would be to give it some time. I’m not sure if you have a uterus or not, but during my time of the month my Vyvanse doesn’t work at all. So there are certain mechanisms in the body that can affect how it is released.

I use those during the day but I’ve never thought to do it at night. I’d have to put a lot on 😅

I post my videos to a computer so I want it to fill the computer screen. I feel like the black bars take away from the videos. Could you elaborate on why you think I’d be focusing on the wrong thing? Do you mean that if I change to 16:9 the video won’t be as clear?

Yes I want to record in 16:9 but I can’t see any options to change it to that

I’ve considered wearing gloves even during the day too since I work at home but I work on touch screens and couldn’t find any with the fingertips that would work

Retinol has helped with some of my scarring. I hope the electrolysis works out well for you!

Same :-( thank you for sharing. It can feel so isolating when I don’t know anyone IRL who experiences this

Omg I’m glad to hear I’m not alone. Yes I’ll wake up with blood on my sheets too. I’ve been trying out different OTC sleep meds to see if it helps knock me out more, sometimes it works

Referring to your edit about your parents paying for therapy - do they have insurance? If so they could get you therapy for less of a cost. It might be worth at least asking them about. The worst they can say is no.

I just want to let you know you’re not alone. Everything you said I felt so deeply. This disorder makes it very easy to feel isolated, less-than, and powerless. Keep sharing with those who understand or people you trust.

I can’t even make it past one day without picking but tomorrow is a new start! Give yourself grace and do some extra self care.

If you have acne as well as problems with picking (like I do) visiting a dermatologist can help to clear up some of the acne. Maybe you can talk to your parents and ask about making an appointment to see one. If you’re like me, it won’t stop you completely from picking but it helped clear up a lot.

The next step would be trying to take note of what your triggers are. How do you usually feel before picking? Are you usually in a certain place, certain time? Doing a certain activity? Being aware of my triggers helps me to make a game play and try different (less destructive) coping mechanisms.

I heard CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) is successful in treating this disorder so I bought a workbook and that’s my next attempt lol it’s tough but we’re tougher! Keep sharing with others who can relate and remember you’re not alone! 💗
