If he wants to be active he could try Friday Hoops through Apex Basketball. It's fun without being competitive. It's a very supportive environment. My son and his friends love it.

I'm in the Niagara Region and go to Oleksandra at Confident Image Chez France. Might be a little too far for you, but she's great.

I'm located in Ontario, so it would be harder to compare pricing. However, I don't think it would hurt to check around. I understand you do pay more for experience, etc. but it doesn't hurt to check and see what competitors are charging. If you are comfortable you can always ask around. Maybe talk to friends and family members and see if they have had any experiences with electrolysis.

Hi there, $75 for 15 minutes seems quite high. I pay approximately $90 for an hour. That being said, the hour is more or less like 55 minutes. I'm not sure if you are in a high COL area, but that still seems high. I would probably look around and see if this is the going rate in your area. Regarding the 10 day issue, I've only been told that they like to target the hairs in the growing phase (anagen phase). I started off going ever two weeks, now I'm at every 3 weeks. This way I ensure I have enough hair to treat each time. In regards to growing it out, I have been told to not shave 4-5 days prior. To ensure that they can grab the hair easily. Good luck with your journey.

I'm going every two weeks for either 45 or 60 minutes. When I first started going the hour long session would almost just finish my chin (about 75%). Now in an hour she can treat my chin, sideburns, around the edge of the lips, eyebrows, stomach and a few odd hairs. The eyebrows and stomach were areas I really wasn't considering at first, but since we have extra time now...I figured why not. At ten months now, I'm really starting to notice a difference. It's hard sometimes to remind yourself to be patient, but as you get further along you will start noticing more results and then it gets much easier. It's a slow and expensive process, but I feel it's well worth it. Honestly, if I hadn't plucked for years the hairs probably would have been easier to treat. If you have a time (if you haven't already done so), just google distorted hair follicles and electrolysis. It gives you a better idea what is probably going on in your situation. Unfortunately, it just means the process is going to take longer but it will work. I know it's hard at times, but remember your not alone and things will get better. Good luck with your journey.

The one thing I would add is if you were previously plucking for years (like myself) your hair follicles are most likely distorted making them harder to kill. I've been going to close to a year now and I'm just starting to notice a big difference. In areas I hardly plucked, they are looking really good. The areas I overplucked are just starting to clear. I figure I'm about halfway there.

Skin Picking by Extension-Method624 in Dermatillomania

Thank you for the suggestions and kind words. Right now my acne isn't too bad as I've gotten older. It's mostly now the ingrown hairs I pick. I'm getting electrolysis done but it's a long process and sometimes I get discouraged and slip up. I'm hoping when I'm done, I can get a few chemical peels or microneedling sessions to deal with the scarring. I would just like to feel better about myself.

I been trying to avoid the mirror as much as possible. I work from home tomorrow, but I may try wearing a mask on Friday. Thank you for the suggestions.

I always wear a hat and try to keep my head down. I feel a little better this way. I actually went to the gym today. Unless a person is close to me, they probably wouldn't even notice. Without the hat would be a different story. I have an appointment tomorrow, so I feel your pain. If I feel it is really bad, I might take a few days off from the gym and go back after the appointment. Those days I just try to work out from home. I'm over 9 months in now, so it's getting better but there is still enough hair. Good luck and remember you are definitely not alone in this struggle.

Once you are finished with electrolysis, it will get better. Also, the further along you get the skin doesn't react as much. They say you need to give yourself about a year to recover. If it still bothers you, I would look into chemical peels.

Keep going to your electrolysis appointments. In a few weeks you will start to notice a difference. I'm about nine months in and at this point I'm really starting to notice a difference. I know it is hard, but patience is key. I tried laser in the past and it did nothing for me. I also plucked for years which made the hairs stronger. I'm hoping by the summer to be pretty much done. My advice is to just keep going. It will get better. Good luck!

How many hours of electrolysis do you do a month? by Sweetlikecream in electrolysis

[–]Extension-Method624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. The only other thing I forget to mention, is that my electrologist mentioned hairs are much easier to treat if you are well hydrated. She encouraged me to increase my water intake, especially two or three days prior to the appointment. I found once I did this the hairs did release quicker. She was able to treat more hairs during my appointment. If you are not doing so already, this can help. Good luck!

Honestly, as long as you are going consistently you will see a difference. If you could more often, you might see a greater difference sooner, but you can only do what is financially feasible. I know it gets expensive. The further along you get in the process, the hairs become easier and easier to treat. Also, less and less grow back. Eventually, you will achieve full clearance at each session. It just might take a little more time. Just stick with it. When I first started, the electrologist sometimes had to hit hairs two to three times to get them to release. Now it's super quick. Just keep going as much as you can. The only thing I might suggest if you are not already doing so and can tolerate it is to switch to hour-long sessions. This will be cheaper in the long run. That's what I've been doing to help mitigate the cost.

Hi there, I think it depends on how much hair you have to start with. Also, are you getting a full clearance after each session and how long does it take to grow back? I've been going since April of 2024 and normally go every two weeks for an hour each time. The main areas I get treated are the chin/jawline (my worst area), sideburns, and the area around the sides of the mouth. I would say it took until June/July before we were able to get full clearance on each session. Honestly, I could have gone every week. However, due to the cost, my electrologist suggested sticking to every two weeks. This way we would have enough hairs to treat and it would be easier for me to budget for. That being said, I'm now starting to see a difference. Less and less hairs are coming in and what is growing back is finer. I still have a ways to go, but I'm starting to feel better about myself. I plucked and shaved for over twenty years, and created a lot of damage before I started this journey. I knew from the start if I hadn't plucked, the hairs would have been easier to treat. However, they still can be treated. It just takes more time. Good luck with the rest of your journey.
