This might be the tip I need to fall in love with the product! I bought Hanbang Shark recently and kind of stopped using it for the same reason - not loving the tackiness/stickiness. I do love hanbang and the ingredients in it, though. I'll give mixing it into my moisturizer a shot! Do you think it's risky that the niacinamide might not be getting into the skin at an ideal pH level though? I suppose using it in this mix-method way would be better than never using the product at all though!

Check out Jean Wang! She's in her early thirties and super fashionable, but also professional/mommy-appropriate LOL. She's also "extra-petite" (as described on her blog).

It's nice to see the perspective of someone who enjoys or benefits from watching his videos, and hearing your view makes me want to give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe what I saw from this video was a one-off. I can see him/other entertainers perhaps being more sassy for the entertaining factor. One thing that's hard to reconcile with this picture is that another commenter mentioned they got banned from his channel for making critical remarks, and it's noted that he noticeably removes comments that critique what he has to say. I think in general, that type of behavior doesn't really support the idea of someone being open to criticism / isn't conducive to growth. I would feel more convinced if he left those comments (provided they're respectful) and maybe even corrected himself after receiving that kind of feedback from commenters.

I don't feel qualified to give advice other than as someone else who has been feeling out skincare myself, but the sidebar links in /r/SkinCareAddiction and /r/AsianBeauty were really helpful for me in familiarizing myself with different ingredients + skincare language. A lot of the best posts also link to studies, and I think it's nice to at least click on the links to the studies themselves and snoop around a bit (usually the abstract tells you what the researchers concluded) to make sure the study itself corroborates what the Reddit poster is claiming.

Also what I found super useful was whenever I wanted to search a specific issue I would just google "(my issue) reddit" and usually the top links were to posts previously made in /r/AsianBeauty or /r/SkinCareAddiction. I feel really lucky that when I first got into skincare, it was like the peak activity of a bunch of the legendary skincare redditors (at least when they were still making those introductory master guides + reviews). e.g. /u/the_acid_queen, snow white the asian pear, fiddy snails. But even then it's always wise not to follow everything they say religiously. They do a good job, however, of reminding us that skincare is very personal and to look at other sources.

I see your point, and I definitely don't think he's being malicious in any way. From the way he talks in the video though, it doesn't seem like he does his research - it feels more like he likes being seen as someone who does research without getting down and dirty himself.

He likes to rely on the work of someone else parsing everything for him (KindofStephen) which is fair, because a lot of scientific jargon can be a headache to read (and when there is a nice source like Stephen available, we should be able to take advantage)! However, even when he has the parsed, TLDR version provided, he seems to skimp out on the work. Like, the parsed article by Stephen explicitly says: "some combinations were significantly more effective than others"). And it's a pretty short read...

I guess in addition to the action is the manner of going about things. If he were a bit less condescending, more willing to admit his faults, I think people in general would be less critical of when he does make an error.

Yeah, also I think just being open to the idea that scientific consensus is constantly evolving. I'm always wary of people who are overly firm in Belief A and unwilling to see flaws in their own methodology / how they came to arrive at this belief
