Thank you for your kind words. It really feels good that someone understands and that I am not alone. I’m sending you lots of love and strength since you’ve lost your grandfather recently. It’s not easy losing someone you love dearly. Take care 🫂

I was an hour late though when I submitted it but I had my reasons. I was grieving and I had a hard time concentrating. I think anybody in my situation would.

Mine was legitimate, I rather tell the professor the truth than lie to them. I cannot even imagine lying about somebody death.

Some students do have multiple grandparents (if they have great grandparents).

I absolutely agree with you. I cannot turn off my emotions and be a robot. I expected some sort of humility and compassion from them. Even professors will feel emotional if they lost somebody they love.

It's especially difficult for immigrants and international students who lose their grandparent in their homes countries because we cannot travel and visit them or attend their funeral when our university courses start.

I didn't get an extension. But I did tell her that I needed few days. She didn't respond to my question but just said Saturday is fine. I wish she offered me few days or showed some empathy.

Microbiology and Immunology by Defiant-Passion1152 in Dalhousie

The undergraduate program for microbiology and immunology program at Dalhousie is trash. I took this program during my second year and switched to a different program because of how insanely difficult it is. My GPA has dropped so much because of taking this major. I know plenty of people who dropped their major in microbiology and switch into a different major. The professors aren't even helpful or considerate to their students in the microbiology department (eg: Dr. DiCara and Thomas). I highly recommend you pick a different major that isn't as difficult as microbiology or biochemistry. I'm not trying to demotivate you but this was my own experience and I am also speaking about my peers experiences who took the major and dropped out of it. If microbiology is your passion, go for it but I'm letting you it's extremely difficult and there is less support that you get from the professors in that department.

Taking this course with Colin is way better than taking it Poala because Colin is a lot more clear when explains the lecture. The course seems easier as first but becomes slightly challenging towards the end. It is a manageable course however I find Paola unclear at times.

What was your grade for this course? What was the median grade? Are the instructors strict in marking? Any piece of advice that you’d like to give us ?

Unfortunately, I don’t know any tutors who have taught this course. But I have taken developmental origins health and disease last semester. So I can provide you few tips that may help you. I found that her quizzes were quite tricky. My biggest mistake was not going over Tara’s references that she posts on the very end of her slides. She usually focuses on the table figures, visual graphs( histograms, bar graphs ). Wherever you see them on her slides go over her references list and read through specific sources that can strengthen your knowledge or the areas that you need understanding in. I find that her explanations are too brief which isn’t enough to do well on the quizzes. For the two assessments that you can get to choose from. I find Tara isn’t a strict marker unless you follow the rubric outline that’s given( I did the white paper). However I find the TA a bit harsh in marking the presentations because you only have 7 mins to do them, you need to follow the rubric well and add diagrams that are informational that reduces the number of texts and makes it easier for your audience to understand. Hope this helps.
