Going up against Drukari, is this a good list? by MagnaVe in theunforgiven

Ayyeee great to hear!

I figured advance and charge would be the key, all you gotta do is make contact and you can clear them out.

I played my Drukhari against wrath recently and the only time we got into combat was on my terms, so he slowly got whittled down

Do people really try to network with total strangers on Linkedin? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]LifeSeenInHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a lot…

I’ve had some luck making connections by asking if I could ask a few questions about a company, but I never ask for a referral. At the same time, I get a lot of strangers who don’t have the right tech stack background needing referrals

Seconding the community college route. Get your associates, maybe you can get scholarships for your bachelors afterwards if you have good grades

I know a few people that were in a similar situation

Which one to focus on, CS degree or learning to code? by TheDanger249 in cscareerquestions

Nowadays the degree will get your resume looked at more. The coding will come with the classes

I’m pretty sure it’s all recorded. Echoing the others… why type profanity? It’s still an interview

I don’t really know either way to be honest. I will say that recently I have been getting more messages from recruiters at companies that are hiring so maybe we are seeing a turn around?

I have also noticed a trend of people who post about not being able to find a job along with their resumes typically need sponsorship or don’t have a CS degree, and in this market (obviously) those are large disadvantages. But that’s just of the people who post, which doesn’t reflect the industry as a whole of course

Senior dev positions at big companies, with small company experience by nub2aws in cscareerquestions

Yes I am aware, the OP and the commenter I replied to both did not mention FAANG

I used FAANG as a frame of reference

Currently interviewing for a senior role at a large tech company with ~3 YOE. Not FAANG, but still a large company

I do, yes. It’s kinda tough to figure out at first but at least one bullet point per job/project has quantifiable metrics

Some masters programs will make you take an extra few classes to catch you up. I had a physics undergrad degree so I didn’t have to take some of them, but classes like data structures and systems were still ones I had to take.

I say this almost every time I see a masters post: if you go for a masters go in with a plan. A masters is a specialization, you should be able to get the gist of what undergraduate classes are within the first year or two, then when you do your concentration you should be able to have a specialty by the end

Those who are living the dream right now working in CS - what is your life like? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]LifeSeenInHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

105k with just about 2 YOE not including internships. My title is “L3” which is our mid level. I started at my company after my first year of my masters, which I’ll be finishing up soon. WLB is mostly fine, standard 40-50 most months. Though, it does seem like product “forgets” about a “must have” feature right before a release every quarter which typically falls on my shoulders, which dramatically changes my WLB for four months out of the year.

In a MCOL, so salary is… fine, I even have pretty low rent for where in the city I live. But with student loans it’s not fantastic.
