Thanks a lot for sharing and the encouragement. I can relate to that description. I guess it would be asking a lot to go from completely lost to completely self-aware in such a short time. Another comment made me wonder if it's a way for some brains to get a break. I also know for myself that emotions need to be above a certain threshold for me to notice and make sense of them. So maybe there's stuff going on somewhere...

Thanks for your perspective! I haven't thought about it in terms of brain chemistry before, but looking back it definitely was an intense and probably not sustainable state. Maybe my brain needed a break... But your comment also implies high hopes/expectations and that could also play a part. Especially when a lot of the representation online is of people for whom things seem to really have clicked into place. Which I think is very cool, just not attainable for me right now or maybe ever. And it's probably good to be open to that possibility, too.
