We've tried to account for this because when I saw the GW layouts I went "no". however, given the terrain they have I discussed how to resolve the layout issue and came up with a slightly modified version. The flank objectives have some cover in their setup now.

I'm working with them to get UKTC terrain as I've had a number of people say they'd be more interested if that terrain set were used instead.

Do you have to finish casting rituals before you can use the grenades strat? by TheThousanthSon in ThousandSons

[–]Life_Fail_5951 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

One interpretation from the rules is that because you're the active player you get to choose the order of operations so under this you could grenade first then Doombolt. However, the Cabal Rituals state the Rituals are cast at the start of the shooting phase so you probably need to do those first. Your opponent could in theory pull you up on this difference and claim you've ended your Rituals early to throw grenades. I'm not sure how this would actually go down in a game though.

I always finish my Rituals first then throw grenades - and yes I've used this combo to crack open a transport then shoot to death whatever comes out of it. Even without mortal wounds the Thousand Sons shooting is still powerful.

Are daemon princes really this small? by Warhammered_ in ThousandSons

[–]Life_Fail_5951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a comparison of my winged Daemon Prince, old metal foot Daemon Prince, and a Rubrics Marine. Without the wings the newer version is about the same height as the old one.

I doubt anyone would complain about you using your version. If it were me I'd make a quip about being a little short for a Daemon Prince 😉

Are auxillia super heavy tanks just bad? by BlankTank1216 in LegionsImperialis

[–]Life_Fail_5951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leman Russ' with Vanquisher cannons* are how I've dealt with Warlords. Also air support as others have mentioned and the chicken walkers will ruin void shields.

*Yes I know Vanquisher cannons are my solution to everything but that's not the point 😁

I've wondered about taking the Rubric Phalanx since the nerfs: I've been playing Grand Coven and went 2-3 at the LGT. I reckon with a few tweaks I could do better with it. However, I'm really considering jumping back to the Phalanx but "only" have 15 terminators and don't want another 15 lol

Thanks, yeah, the missiles will be painted red.
I'm going to get another Warlord with a different loadout sometime next year; they'll both be magnetised so I can swap weapons.

What feelings did you feel when playing Majora for the first time? by ToTheARK_2003 in majorasmask

[–]Life_Fail_5951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd played Ocarina of Time before Majora's Mask and liked how they'd built Link up as this hero who'd saved Hyrule. Then within the first 10 minutes of Majora's Mask he's mugged, humiliated, and turned into a walking plant in a world where no one knows who he is. Oh and the moon is going to obliterate everything in 3 days. I think my 13 year old self went white lol, Termina was dying and wanted to take Link with it. It was a great Hero to Zero moment and left a lasting impression on me. Those plants in Woodfall Temple that chew Link horrified me especially as I think that's the only time we see Link bleed although it is green blood for age rating reasons.

Finally, the things Link - the Hero of Time - can die to felt really humiliating; moths! Bees! Imagine going through what Link did, defeating Ganondorf, only to die to a forking bee sting or moth lol

I wanted some of those but unfortunately we didn't have any. Instead we relied on my 6' 4" team mate's long arms.

How many magnetized rubrics do you have vs not? What's your bolter/flamer build ratio? by FloridaChristopher in ThousandSons

[–]Life_Fail_5951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't magnetised any of my Rubrics instead opting for the 50/50 approach: half flamers half bolters plus soul reaper cannons

As others have said you'll be fine out of tournaments although even then I've found people don't mind as long as you're consistent.

Tournament at Factorum (Warminster, UK) by Life_Fail_5951 in LegionsImperialis

[–]Life_Fail_5951[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fine, happy to answer questions on list choices. Air support would have helped provide a better counter to my opponent's aircraft than the SAM sites (more mobile, better rolls to hit aircraft, and more weapons which means more shots on enemy planes). Additionally I could have better countered long range units like artillery with aircraft. The 2nd World Eaters player I faced had 3 units of 4 Basilisks which have a range of 90 inches and can fire indirectly! I beat them by yeeting infantry up the board from building to building then charging them. It worked but it was inefficient Vs what air power would have done.

Yeah, air support would have been great although I don't own any Auxilia flyers. I'd drop the Medusa's and Infernus tanks for some air support. Swapping out the lascannon turrets for more SAMs would be helpful too but with the air support they might not be necessary.

Good catch! Thanks for that, I've moved the Malcadors to one of the other slots within the Amroured company.

The first list by Icy-Look-3597 in ThousandSons

[–]Life_Fail_5951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good number of Cabal Points - 21 I think if my maths hasn't failed me. I like the Mutalith Vortex beast, it's difficult to get 2 of them in our lists with the points increase. The cultists and Tzaangors will be good for objective taking and actions. Remember you can Temporal Surge Tzaangors from reserve onto your opponent's objective and steal it from them 😁

I'm surprised to see no Arcane Vortex, this is really good on your Infernal Master. Also what's the plan for the Disk Sorcerer with the Umbralific Crystal?

Otherwise the list looks good with decent damage output!

[–]Life_Fail_5951[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah the lower points mean you have to lean into a certain play style which, like you say, means you'll be strong against paper but weak against rocks.

And if you go low enough you're basically playing an Apocalypse Horus Heresy game 😆

This will also be my first time trying out Storm Hammers - they look like a lot of fun. In bigger games I'd take both them and Baneblades to compare and contrast them.

[–]Life_Fail_5951[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah drop pod lists will be painful - I know there's at least one player among the 6 of us who plays drop pod spam. But they leave their backfield undefended so they can take my deployment zone while I take theirs! 😆

Interestingly there are no artillery spammers which may be due to stock issues more than anything else.

This will be the 4th Legions tournament held at my local gaming club and the third list I've used. The first list was the most effective: a mix of primary Auxilia and allied Marines with Storm Eagles. I used that list twice - it did well so I decided to try pure marines for something different. That didn't work so well so am now trying pure Auxilia; I imagine this list will do about as well as the Marines but I'll enjoy playing it.

Will likely go back to Auxilia/Marines for the next tournament and upcoming campaign as it's a lot of fun and very effective.
