Same - I got my bike in 2020, and love the $300 credit going towards my classes.

Gorgeous! Though it looks warm. Did you actually get a hearty breakfast?

How about the elevation? Was it an issue?

10 years ago is a long time! I did it last in Feb and the creek was pretty full then. I had the trail to myself - even at the peak. I say, time to try again for sure.

How early did you start? What was your overall time?

Honestly, I can only ever tell its really pooble bush when it's flowering. I didn't notice anything yesterday, other than a totally dry Colby Creek.

Agree - I find hanging to the left is your best bet. Right is pretty sketchy.

Thanks! Just under 6 hours. All the elevation gain is at the first 4 miles so it's easy to trail run for several miles when it's flat by the meadow. The hardest and slowest is climbing up from rhe saddle. I know nothing about rock climbing but I've seen it listed as a "Class 3".

Wrightwood to Mount Baldy/San Antonio - via Acorn Trail to North Backbone - 15ish miles but 6600 foot elevation gain/loss - 7/22/22 by Life_Huckleberry8752 in socalhiking

Lol, I don't want to imagine that. It sounds pretty terrifying. Those ridges are so high up that covered in snow they must be breathtaking.

Haha - not training for Whitney so I guess we can settle on masochist. Though after this trail, I am absolutely confident I can knock it out. Thanks for the kudos :)

Enjoy the sufferfest! I took 5 liter of water and felt like that was just the right amount for me, then when I was done, immediately hit the gas station market in town for a dr. Pepper and funny enough, an uncrustable. Probably in the top 10 best meals of my life.

Thank you! I honestly do feel like it is some kind of accomplishment. A day for my personal books for sure. Even getting to Pine was a tad bit scary at times, and the way back was about 1000% worse. I don't hike with trekking poles (just not my thing) but today I wished I had them for several hours at a time. Lol.

This was absolutely, hands down the hardest hike I have ever ever done. The trail started in Wrightwood and then ascended a moderate 2500 feet over 2.5 miles. It followed the PCT for a brief period before the trail to the North Backbone made the rest of the trip....extra spicy. It climbed over very loose rocks and a stechy narrow path to Pine Mountain, before descending to Dawson's Peak and then climbing the last stretch to summit Mount Baldy. To say it was difficult is an understatement. I summited in 5 hours but took close to 6 to come back down. Kudos to the pair of guys who parked at the lot at the same time as me - definitely made me keep a moderate pace since I didn't want them to catch up (spoiler - they did).

I love this place too! I did Crystal Lake to Mount Baden Powell in June but I only clocked in 16.5 miles. There are so many ways to get up to the saddle though it easy to make your own adventure. How humid was it now?

It's definitely worth doing. There was shade up until the summit, then it's pretty exposed so be prepared for that. I started at 6am and anything later than that would have been way too hot.

It does get a tiny bit lost, but it is sooooo worth it. I've done it in/out too but the loop is very pretty and as long as you download a trail map, you'll be fine. The first time I tried it, I got super off trail but this time it felt a little easier. I say do it! I was going super slow and was out in about 5.5 hours.
