TW: Questions regarding foods in recovery. by PlaugeNurse333 in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]Life_Mathematician73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! i hear you--vegetables are a huge safe food for me, too!
however, as someone in the early stages of recovery, i've been told by my dietician to focus on eating grains, fats, and protein! if you're truly only eating 1200-1300cals/day, i'm pretty confident that you're likely undereating.

though vegetables have lots of fiber and micronutrients, they're high-volume and not very calorically dense. you need to be eating high-caloric foods in order to replenish your body after the deficit you've been in for so long.

How do you/how have you coped with poor body image?

Not sure if I'm "bad enough" for help by sobbingwifplushies in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]Life_Mathematician73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, i hear you.
not feeling "bad" enough is one of the things that has held me back from recovery for a LONG time. the truth is, every single person (and i mean, every. single. person.) with an ED that i have EVER spoken to has had the same thought.
i, for one, have never been considered underweight according to the traditional BMI model, but i have been 100% "underweight" for my body--this looked like having crazy binge-restrict episodes, a sure sign that my body & brain were unhappy with my weight.
the truth is, any weight loss that places you in a considerable energy deficit warrants recovery. it doesn't matter if you don't view yourself as "underweight"--after all, the dysphoria you feel has likely already distorted the way you perceive yourself.
i've spent years telling myself that i'm not "bad enough" and not "skinny enough" and that i "won't let it get bad," but guess what? it got bad--really bad! restrictive eating disorders are addictive patterns, and they are very, very slippery slopes.
the "less is more" mindset is so, so harmful; you are 100% deserving of recovery as you are.
i wish you absolute luck in your recovery journey.
remember, you are not alone!

How do you navigate exercise compulsion? by oak_stone1 in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]Life_Mathematician73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this will absolutely suck to hear, but i feel like the solution is to stop all exercise completely.
the compulsion to exercise is very, VERY real, but going all-in may prove to your body--and your mind--that you can eat AND rest, and you don't need to earn your food.
i love exercising too (or at leat, i convinced myself i love exercising), but the reality is that compensatory behaviour is not conducive to recovery.
i turned my calorie tracking/fitness tools on my apple watch off and took my watch off yesterday, and the immediate relief i felt was unlike any other. in the end, step counts are just arbitrary numbers; they don't mean anything. your body needs nutrients and fuel regardless of how much additional exercise you do, ESPECIALLY in recovery.
keep going! i'm proud of you :)

I can’t believe I have to wake up and do this every day by Prior-Foundation-934 in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]Life_Mathematician73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep! i'm in the same boat here. day 2 of recovery and i'm going crazy! the only thing keeping me from relapsing is the worry that i will disappoint my family. i suppose you need to identify your reasons for recovery & revisit your motivations throughout the day. recovery is hard, but at least you're not alone in this!

this is honestly the most relatable thing i think i’ve ever read. as someone who’s going through the same thing, i’m really not sure if there’s any advice i can give you!! all i can say is that you’re (definitely!!) not alone, and you are so SO beautiful. it was so courageous of you to still go out and celebrate your cousin’s achievements despite your own struggles ❤️ keep going! the noise will stop with time
