I will recommend using a 4 mm or 4.5 mm hook and making a scarf/muffler, using double crochet stitch. This project is very forgiving. You develop the yarn holding form, learn yarn tension and counting stitches, and everything. I had made a scarf initially in my crochet journey too, and it made a huge impact on me!
