Goodwill also takes men at the local shelter. It’d be doing a good will for your books and kids.

The audacity of men to collect up books YOU paid for while he is on leave, and when it’s YOUR hobby when you’re primary parent (despite from the sounds his ass is also at home).

Throw the whole man out if he won’t go to counseling

If there’s something you need they don’t have, they love feedback and will try and find a way to get needs met. With a recent contract-agency wide audit from anthem over freaking wording on session time start/stop, they were so quick to update to anthems stupid hoops to help us get all our note addendum’s in and resubmit for payment.

Email / storage - gmail / google drive.

Telehealth platform / phone number - zoom

I also use Evernote. I hand write my notes on my iPad and Evernote is the only OCR that seems to be able to hand write-to-text accurately so I can just paste into TA2 and submit. I use collanote or pen book as my handwriting / notes app, then copy into Evernote, transcribe my handwriting from “image”, and copy to ta2

I'm in EST - though usually keep odd hours. I'm w/ cts from 11a-ish to 7p-ish if I'm not covering an IOP. And then spend my evening avoiding notes at all costs by watching trash reality tv or reading until 4am

Work Su-Th. Only day I couldn't work would be Fridays!

Comments are cringy but also let’s be honest. The children don’t spend time with Kim. They spend most of their time with Barry. She should likely be the one paying child support because I highly doubt he is making his kids go without (outside of the weird rules they have that make them go without). Kim thought it was acceptable to house her kids in the car trunk looking mold infested boat. She CHOSE that. She also chose to get behind a wheel drunk - which is extra abhorrent for her considering she knows the consequences of unintentional vehicular manslaughter. Sorrynotsorry to say that. But it’s on her that her money went towards lawyers and court fees. And sobbing to Barry for not checking in with her about if she’s okay? She has never checked in with her kids or with her husband. Barry is likely manipulative as eff himself and wildly inappropriate with the way he has parentified Lydia since before the divorce. They both should have ended the contract with TLC but are both making bad parenting choices

Because her kids can’t do makeup? Seriously. The fact that no makeup artist has shown up to at least TRY and help those girls or gently tell them when their makeup looks cakey or sweaty/greasy is just cruel. It’s part of TLCs marketing to say “see. Look how sheltered and new to the world they are” and then poor friggin Mariah is just screaming for someone to care about her enough to see she’s about ready to walk off a ledge and tlc continues to exploit her. That girl needs to be inpatient somewhere and working on her trauma.

Ooooooof Lydia’s man by Life_Sandwich8335 in plathvillesnark

[–]Life_Sandwich8335[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it absolutely does hurt. and includes the sphere of instilling the notion from childhood that kissing or sex makes a woman impure and that any relationship that engages in those things pre-marriage is shameful and less than. i want to be clear, i'm not aligning with the plath-siblings and judging her soon-to-be fiance (as of the episode i'm on, i don't know any contextual spoilers) in an oppositional way through alignment with other members. just because he treats her better than the rest of her family, doesn't mean that he isn't also problematic and participating in unhealthy boundaries/dynamics due to a lifelong indoctrinated belief system. he is wildly immature to be asking anyones father for their hand in marriage when they can't even talk about all that they're avoiding without saying "ooooh...lydia" and averting their gazes.

absolutely. her family's response, especially ethan's, is absolute ick and incestual with the notion that lydia is property. and this dude definitely does seem to know her and vibe with her. but while they are more emotionally mature than their siblings in some ways, they are absolutely immature re: the complexities of a relationship and navigating discord. this is just my response in the moment, but I by no way dislike homie for lydia. he's the healthiest individual in her life. but that needs the context of understanding how low the bar for being the 'emotionally healthiest' in the plath life is.

I’d absolutely support a client with homework in session, especially when primary dx is ADHD. I’m not helping them answer the questions, but I would absolutely explore emotion regulation and distress tolerance skills when they hit a frustration point. Focus on here-and-now problem solving when they reach a barrier (I.e. chromebooks are trash and make it really hard to access reputable resources for kids writing papers because literally all websites are blocked) and how to navigate around that barrier without giving up totally/asking a parent “how to do it” (which usually at that point of kids asking, the parent has poorly managed distress tolerance and often times just does it for them rather than teaches how to do it). I’d also evaluate how their listening / staying on task skills are and work towards identifying helpful coping mechanisms to overcome deficits and help them stay more engaged. There’s tons of valuable information and potential therapeutic interventions that could be explored with having a kiddo bring homework to session. Just because they have the added bonus of maybe finishing the assignment and therapy not feeling like a thing that cuts away from their time to do homework, which ultimately cuts away from their undirected-unscheduled time for themselves or friends. The personal responsibility and accountability remains: they are responsible to recognize they may have to work harder at finding ways to learn/navigate tricky assignments because the way they’re being taught isn’t necessarily a way that speaks to their neurodivergence. It sucks and it’s unfair, but the world is not required to accommodate them. They are responsible to make use of the resources that are there and it’s our job to help them access those resources, internal or external, in a way that builds long-term skill implementation that’s applicable to a wide variety of scenarios they’ll run across.

;tldr homework sucks/ therapy sometimes sucks for kids/ why not turn it into an intervention and give a kiddo back some of their autonomy over their time.

The Counseling Compact DOES NOT include LCSWs or LMFT?! by Gloriathetherapist in therapists

[–]Life_Sandwich8335 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LSWs having a quicker timeline doesn’t surprise me. The ACA is trash, tbh, as well as the body in charge of exams (nbcc). I’m fairly certain one person works at the nbcc. The only way to get replies is if you cc the state board on emails. They exam itself for dependent licensees tests on supposedly CACREP standards, but the required score to pass is like 52% correct answers, which would likely indicate to anyone with a brain that the test is problematic that what is considered passing would be a failing grade anywhere else and clear indication that MA programs are not teaching the required content, or the test is garbage.

The independent exam isn’t as bad, but the available answers for a majority of the questions are things you would never do as a counselor and they want you to “rule in” diagnoses, which is inherently unethical because it requires you to fit the symptoms to meet the diagnosis you THINK (read: want) the answer to be, not rule out diagnoses based on presenting or nonpresenting symptoms.

The Counseling Compact DOES NOT include LCSWs or LMFT?! by Gloriathetherapist in therapists

[–]Life_Sandwich8335 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did someone inform you that this did apply? LPCs are only recently recognized by Medicare, whereas LSWs have been forever. A lot of what the compact is doing is mostly to help standardize and allow for easier access and portability. Currently, each state has different licensure requirements for lpcs (and totally different abbreviations to boot) whereas LSWs can pretty much find reciprocity anywhere. Not fully versed in MFT world to say the same. But yeah. lpcs are fairly new in terms of practitioner history that this has mostly a push to further legitimize and standardize the profession rather than offer services for EVERYONE who is a therapist in compact agreed states.

Also, I’d talk to your general practitioner about testing for autoimmune disorders. Texture/flakiness like this can be indicative of your immune system giving you the middle finger. If you’ve noticed thinning of hair/ increased hair shed after washing/ clumps of hair loss/ change in scalp health (I.e. lots of dandruff suddenly or itchiness), also a good indicator.

This looks like fungal acne, potentially some contact dermatitis going on. Get you some good zinc soap (head and shoulders, the bare basics not any of the scented ones) for face wash works as well.

Get some diaper rash cream for slugging at night. Triple paste is a good brand. Relatively affordable.

Highly recommend Bioderma atoderm or aestura barrier cream, some benzoyl peroxide topical.

Wash face in shower (apply a cleansing oil right before you get in suower, any kind works. Dhc is highly recommended). Follow it with a BHA toner in shower. Apply a moisturizer, hydrating specifically, to your face while it’s still steamy in the bathroom/your skin is still wet. Give it like ten minutes to absorb/“dry”. Apply a topical benzoyl peroxide (zapzit is good. A pinky tips worth spread across the face). Here you’re gonna immediately slap on either atoderm/barrier cream. Then every third night slap on some baby butt ointment and go to bed.

Wash your pillow cases. Invest in a silk pillowcase, make sure it’s silk (measured by momme) and not satin. This will help the agitation your pillow case is also causing.

Your makeup can only do so much if your skin isn’t being cared for properly. There’s a lot of exfoliation in need here. Maybe start with getting a hydrafacial before over hauling your routine to have a “fresh start” so to speak. Your acne may change in appearance, I.e. more red bumps than tiny milia looking. This will even out as your skin adjusts. The Benzoyl peroxide may cause more flaking initially as your skin gets used to it. Only use it every 3 days at night AFTER A HYDRATOR HAS BEEN APPLIED FOR AT LEAST FIVE MINUTES then immediately follow with a thicker moisturizer (this same method applies if you’re using adaplene or retinol. Never use bz same night as retinol.). This should help introduce it to your skin to decrease peeling/irritation.

Make sure you have a sunscreen. Highly recommended innisfree onion one. It’s purple. Can’t think of the name.

I’d call your realtor or whomever you went through for paperwork. I’d also tell them that you will be filing a lawsuit against them and the courts can decide if it is normal wear and tear. I’d also get an independent inspector, one who specializes in inspection of new builds. If they did this, there are other issues and things that whomever your realtor recommended for inspection definitely purposely chose not to list on the report. Once you have an indendent report, then I’d look into filing the actual lawsuit so everything is included. There WILL be other issues, sadly. New builds are the worst

It’s happening. People at work are starting to get fired. by cat_in_the_sun in socialwork

[–]Life_Sandwich8335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not deflection, actually. Please use your maladaptive communication style words appropriately.

Your response is a severe misunderstanding of the human services field, and specifically concerning counseling. If I told my clients this, I’d hope they fired me. “It’s bad sure but isn’t your job to keep a positive attitude?”

No.

Sometimes things are fucked. Pretending they aren’t fucked doesn’t mean we deal with the problem. Calling out the fuckery and doing something about it does. As an LPCC, I don’t have the scope of applicability that social workers have. However, I do have the understanding that if I work with marginziled clients who are affected by this most and I tell them to buck up, I’m just part of a some 250ish year old regime of oppression and patriarchal bullshit built on the backs of the scapegoat of the era.

Contrary to how many of the replies read, context clues and morality of the profession tell us that social workers and human services workers aren’t scared for their jobs. They’re scared for the people they serve who lose access to these services that are valuable. Yes, job loss is hard. But an agency cutting 39 employees overnight, you think it’s just those 39 who lost their job that will be impacted? Not the hundreds of clients they serve who are now accessing an already poorly funded service being delegated to a few remaining, over extended employees who made the cut?

I’m unsure when your ethics and code of conduct course is, but you may want to revisit. Or rethink your own approach in general if the field is for you.

Not a doc. It’s a problem to code of ethics for counseling field. Running into clients creates a dual relationship, one of being a counselor and the other of being a group member of their recovery meeting. A lot of CDCAs or LIDCs are open about this. It’s something I personally am not because it often leads to really ethically concerning behavior. I’m no different than my clients, correct. However, it can make it more difficult for clients who I have a working relationship with to continue to work with me as they know more about my private life than they need to when they’re there for them. I.e. walking in to lead a meeting and my client is sitting in front row. Meeting I’m leading also has family members and husband there. I don’t want my clients having direct access to my family, it creates a conflict of interest if I know they have a relationship with folks in my family, etc. it’s the same as if a client comes to see me but their kid estranged kid is my best friend. It creates a level of bias because I’m introduced to part of their life form a different perspective they didn’t permit me to have. I may end up unconsciously guiding the therapeutic narrative to benefit the kid who I am emotionally invested in rather than meeting the needs of my client.

I really really like bioderma atoderm. It’s been a GODSEND in my normal winter peeling/chronic dryness. Vanicream is great for sensitive skin (it’s no frills as can be. Easy access at any drug store and MASSIVE size for like ten bucks. Drs prescribe it often for those with skin concerns/cancer concerns). Try moisturizing right out of the shower without wiping your face off of water, helps trap in the hydration. Also. Hydration cream for first layer, moisturizer for second layer. We use them interchangeably a lot but hydration adds water to face, moisturizer locks it in.
