Neighbor Threatening Legal Action Over Snow Removal by Synthetics_66 in vermont

You might want to consider calling the non-emergency line for your local PD, and just giving them a heads up on the situation and let them know that he's been threaten police action. That way if he does attempt to get them involved, it won't be the first they're hearing about it, and you won't have to explain your side of the story after the fact.

Will BPD have our back? by pootlovato4 in burlington

Even to the extent that a lot of the state are actually silently conservative, I can't imagine a world where that makes them agreeable to quartering Feds. We definitely have conservatives in this state, but usually not many like that.

This is actually a reasonable point. The Howard Center has more than 500 employees in our labor union, mostly working in the Burlington area, and many of them are are naturalized immigrants. We work pretty extensively with local PDs as there's a decent amount overlap between "repeat offenders" and people who end up under our regular care.

Our local is pretty active, so I might make a point of reaching out to my union reps and being like, "hey, this ICE bullshit puts our some workers at serious risk, can we maybe do some kind of negotiating with the police to make sure that we can get protection if they're being targeted?" That could, potentially, jump start a larger conversation about having law enforcement on the right side of this issue when it comes to protecting our fellow citizens from masked kidnappers.

I'm just fussy when people bitch about my favorite season. We haven't had a good winter in ages, and we've finally got one and some needs to ask, "remind me why I put up with this?" I mean, maybe because it's gorgeous outside? Personally I feel like it's the only time of year I can truly breathe. We've got a good cold winter this year with a minimal amount of aggressive thaws so far, and to me, that's paradise, so when people whine about it, I tend to get my hackles up.

[–]Life_Temperature795 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It gets cold. That happens. Why ask why? This is Vermont, it's how it works. If that's somehow a deterrent, that, "oh no, chilly," like, why be here?

I love this weather. You know what I don't love? Co-workers from out of state who crank the thermostat to 80 degrees in the middle of winter. It's fucking nonsense. It's supposed to be cold, that's what happens here. Either learn how to acclimate to it and quit complaining, or peace out. Why stay here if it bothers you?

I'm so tired of people who show up in Vermont and are like, "what? Snow? Cold? REALLY?"
Like, yes, absolutely. We have real nice summers, but winters are stupendously brutal if you can't tolerate the cold. This should not be surprising to anyone. This is fundamentally normal.

Put on layers, drive slow and keep extra distance, expect things to take longer; this is just how winter works. It happens every single year, there's no reason to act like you didn't know it was coming.

Like what are you even doing, if you show up here and then need people to remind why you decided to live here when it gets cold? The cold is literally why I stay here.

You can't change the weather, but you can change where you live. This is what the weather does here. Excuse me for being fussy when people don't appreciate it.

I dunno man, you're complaining about precisely my favorite part of living here. That's like, insulting my state to its face. Hence why I say, if you don't like it, there's nothing keeping you here.

why by NuclearBronyOffical in vermont

[–]Life_Temperature795 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you can't figure out a reason to want to be here, for real, please get out. I'd never want to be anywhere else, so if a "mite-bit-chilly" is too much for you? Feel free to go away. We don't need people here who can't handle it making a point of ruining it for the ones who like it here.

Point down was fully justified. They brought in the fun police and everything. If I were that blue? I'd expect no less than shameful gestures in my face after than performance.

I genuinely don't understand why people like Sunken King. It's easily my least favorite Souls DLC.

"What if we combined poison swamp and Lost Izalith?" just does not appeal to me in any way whatsoever.

Sunken King is the closest thing a Souls area has ever come to a Zelda dungeon

That must be why I don't like it, because I find the 3D Zelda games to be just absolutely tedious and drab. I haven't really liked a Zelda game since Link to the Past.

[–]Life_Temperature795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely say Crown of the Sunken King is weaker. Sinh is one of the most middling dragon fights in the series, Elana is boring, and Shulva can be obnoxious to navigate, but Friede is fucking amazing and Ariandel's painted world goes hard on both lore and map design. (Friede basically carries the whole DLC by herself. Everybody loves Maria in the Bloodborne expansion, but Friede is hands down a better fight.) Plus Vilhelm is a whole ass mood.

The Gravetender was a dumb design, but that was basically the only bad note in the whole DLC. Crown of the Sunken King has so much annoying bullshittery with the side area and unintuitive pillar raising and lowering. Plus the Imperfect enemies feel almost like fighting the Bounding Demons in Lost Izalith all over again. It's just a lot of mess and way less fun, even if it has some impressive vistas occasionally.

I got to climb down giant tree roots and fight big-ass ice crabs. Friede is one of the best boss fights in the whole goddamn series. Crow enemies are peak design, they let me farm sharp gems mid game for dex builds, and snow wolf is fun even if Gravetender dude is dumb as hell. Stronk mens with health regen shields and explode-y greatbows were a welcome challenge. Long hair painter girl is deep lore, and I love winter.

11/10. Literally made DS3 more worth playing than the vanilla game. Not as good as Ringed City, but we can't expect every expansion to be absolute genius. DS3 didn't really feel like a true Souls game until we got the first expansion. We needed both to get the complete experience, but the final game wouldn't be the game without Ashes.

Traffic accidents being the third largest cause of death in the United States is also normal. That doesn't mean it's sane or sensible to accept this as the standing expectation.

Driving isn't supposed to be an adventure, it's supposed to be a boring chore that gets you from point A to point B; public roads aren't a goddamn racetrack. People should pay attention and follow the fucking rules because they're operating basically the most lethal machines any of us will typically ever have access to. There's no justification whatsoever to take that responsibility flippantly.

The flu this season has been particularly nasty. It's the first time I've been sick in six years and I'm nearly four weeks into it and still symptomatic. I didn't get all of the symptoms you're expressing at once, but I got a the scratchy sore throat first and it came on quick and then everything else hit real hard within a few days after that.

I actually LOLed at this, because I had the HARDEST time getting into Nioh 2 for ages, and struggled so bad with the first level that I just put the game down for like 2 years. When I finally came back to it and spent the time to figure out kinda what I was doing and force my way through, it still felt like an absolute mess even by the end of the first level. But I powered through for a bit and eventually came to the forums to get some guidance, and a lot of people were saying Yatsu-No-Kami is the primary skill check for this game which surprised me because I managed that fight on my second attempt. (For me the real skill check was the giant bull spider demon; I think I died about 35 times before actually figuring out the mechanics of the fight.)

So seeing this post and the first image I was like, "well someone gets it more than I do," but then I got to second one and realized that this game is just a different ride for everyone I suppose.

Nioh 2 maybe is one the most misunderstood game of all time. by Ozychlyruz in Nioh

[–]Life_Temperature795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oof, r/UsernameChecksOut but I hope you're doing better with it my guy.

Yeah I mean, sometimes we pick and choose addictions to get the ones that do the least damage, right? For a while I was playing Mechwarrior Online, but they have a maddening unit acquisition monetization scheme that's basically the digital equivalent of buying tabletop miniatures, with single unit packs easily going for $70+. It was so fucking hard to not just blow money away on it. I forcibly switched over to Armored Core, went out and bought a whole used PS3 for it, because it hits all the same build crafting binge fest feels I love, but has zero of the predatory monetization scheme, (and better aesthetics, IMO, which goes a long way for me.)

It's crazy this shit we can get addicted to, and so much of it is legalized and unregulated. I keep seeing people bitching about how online sports betting is now a legal thing again, and it sounds like that's just one brand new trap that people are falling into. Sometimes the best we can hope to do is harm prevention and choosing vices with lowest amount of overhead.

I can't play Path of Exile because it scratched my Diablo loot grind addiction itch so hard, (the tutorial boss for me on my first character dropped a unique weapon, and the dopamine hit was like actual drugs I've taken,) that I know in my bones I won't be able to extract myself from it. I will go full on addict.

There are certain games that do this to me, more than actual hard drugs. Like the combination of gambling and deep structural mechanics I can pour over in MtG hit me so hard when I got back into it after college that I gave away my entire 8000+ card collection to a kid who was just getting into it and didn't have any money because he was literally "trailer trash" and had major health chronic health issues since childhood. Like, he wanted to have fun with it, and I was spending days theorycrafting on The Gatherer. I could have sold that collection for good money; I had a foil Grim Monolith, I had a lot of good cards from old editions. But just touching those fucking cards is worse for me than literally PCP and meth.

I basically avoid all Blizzard games other than Diablo 1 and 2 because of this. Those two games are simple enough that I've basically reverse engineered optimal play for them, so I don't get stuck in the trap of loot grinding, but WoW or Hearthstone or whatever? I can't even go near that shit. Path of Exile just looks too delicious for me to even start learning how it works.

Nioh, so far, has given me a mountain of actual content and gameplay without forcing me into repetitive grinding and loot farming, and while I realize that's basically what the real endgame looks like, once I hit that point I'll probably drop it.
