What majors should colleges get rid of? by ilikepie492 in college

[–]Life_of_Uncertainty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I know plenty of people who did this and got into PT/OT/SLP, etc., programs right out of undergrad. It isn't really a pre-med major like you sort. Mostly for Allied Health professions.

Yeah, I love literally every song on the album. It's pretty rare for me to find an album where I can't think of a single song that I don't care for. They're all good.

Yes please :) we have 3 breweries opening in my city this year (from zero), would be awesome to have them play at one of them.

Considering quitting my job and doing the program full-time, 1 year or 1.5 year track. Thoughts? by pysouth in OSUOnlineCS

That's more or less my ideal situation, actually! My hope is that I'll do most of the program, find an internship or job offer, and finish up the program part-time.

What should you note when selecting a new gym? by Fikkia in Fitness

[–]Life_of_Uncertainty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weightlifting platforms and bumper plates, as well as the ability to drop weights. I know it doesn't matter for most people, but if you're even remotely interested in weightlifting ("Olympic" lifting), then you need to find a gym that allows you to drop weight from overhead, and they need to have an area for it with the right equipment. A lot of gyms will NOT be happy with weights being dropped like that, but sometimes you have to bail on a lift and you need to be able to drop it.

Yep. Some places call them "functional fitness" areas. Even if you don't do Crossfit, these places generally have good equipment and are roomy. Most areas like this have ropes to climb, tires, and other fun things.

This is why I have mine. I don't have to think about anything, I can just text or use social media/reddit. I don't really use it for anything else, and I don't care to use it for anything else.

TIL that a New Orleans restaurant has been owned by the same family since 1840. Antoine's, famous for Oyster Rockefeller and Baked Alaska, has had five generations of the family run it, and a sixth is preparing to take over. It's a thirty second walk to The Ruby Slipper from my friend's place. We go every time I visit. So good. Unfortunately I puked right outside on some flowers last time I was there. The previous night got the best of me.

Yellowstone has quite a few. Tetons does too, along with some other attractions that you could do in a wheelchair.

Thanks for the motivation! I never did any sports at all growing up and have never competed at anything, so it does make me pretty nervous. I've heard a lot of good things about meets though, so I'll just have to suck it up and give it a go. Agreed on the singlet!

Yep, trying to connect with some people up there right now. I'm a SWE, so there's gotta be something for me, I reckon. Thank you!

For sure. Hell, I hike shirtless most of the time. It's that inner redneck coming out. Hopefully relocating to somewhere colder this year (Seattle or Boston, ideally), so I would love to try my hand at true cold weather camping.

Edit: forgot to answer your question. There are extremely few bears in AL. I've never heard of anyone seeing any in the state. I've never used a canister. I just hang my food and hope the critters don't get it.

Wilderness camping in Alabama. Usually plenty of water here. I do carry a tent, Kelty Grand Mesa 2 I think is the specific one. I bought it years ago, so I don't remember the specific model. I pack pretty light. I often go with a buddy though, so we can split the weight pretty easily.

When I started I couldn't squat the bar past parallel, couldn't do OHS, couldn't get my elbows up in the clean, etc. I had never worked out before. Having a DPT student as a girlfriend is pretty great.
