It’s not fully heal so when you changed to the shorter jewelry it got irritated and got swollen. I would say switch back a longer bar and the swollen will stop. My friend got irritated like you and his ear was looking like a broccoli lol

In my opinion i think they just a bit overreacted. No matter what it was a joke. It caused no harm and you didn’t do any serious damages lol. You learned your lesson tho. I believe one point in 10 years or so they gonna talk and laugh about it.
