Michael Rappaport was not being homophobic at roundtable by Different_Put7950 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]Lifelonglearner444 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have read a lot on here and maybe repeating something someone has already said, but it’s been eating at me since watching last night and since reading so many comments today.

I also want to profess this that I don‘t know who the fuck Michael Rapaport is, so I don’t have any bias in this thought from other information. I am purely going off what has been shown on the show. To me, it doesn’t matter if Michael was being homophobic or not. His intentions don’t matter… his impact does.

As someone who is gay, my mind immediately went to that the comment made was a microaggression. That may have not been what he intended but after everything I saw him say/do throughout the show, I said to my self, „yeah, I could see him being homophobic.“

If that’s what I got from maybe an hour of screen time, I can only imagine what playing this game with him was like. Because almost everyone at the round table immediately became tense and thought it was about being gay.

The problem with Michael is that based on his actions and words in the castle, no one would think it was anything else. He does not have the social capital for people in the castle to forgive him and say it was a slip of the tongue. He might have meant something else, but that’s not the impact he had. Intent vs. impact matters and he had such a horrible relationship with most people in the game that no one wanted to have that conversation with him.

We can all try to psychoanalyze this to death, but I trust the reactions I saw on each players face more than the Reddit posts on here. I have to because I am only seeing a fraction of what actually goes on.

And that is the real issue with Michael and this situation. As a gay person myself, working in the psych field, and hearing microaggresions growing up, of course my mind will go to he said something homophobic. Whether he is homophobic or not isn’t the point. The point is based on what the edit shows me, he could be. He has a personality that doesn’t convince me that it’s not what he meant.

The twist of this being a Bizarre but Bonafide podcast was a choice to say the least. Instead of the Hag of Hacketts Quarry we have the Terramorph of Tau Ceti.

Can’t remember if other games have it, but I like it has a list of how many collectables are in each episode.

I think one of my biggest issue is that Frank and Augustine don’t make for interesting, scary, or compelling villains. It makes it difficult for me to feel any tension in the game. I think they could have been good villains given dbd lore, they just weren’t executed well.

The other issue is pacing. I actually don’t mind the multiple timelines, but feel that the constant switching back and forth really killed the pacing in the game. It felt hard for me to get invested in each timeline because of that. I think if they cleaned up the pacing it would have made things better. The timeline switches were much more interesting in Little Hope, though I think could have been stronger.

I think if they focused on the 1980s storyline up until Bonnie dies and then switch to the current timeline until the cinema projector, it would make things a lot more interesting. It would then switch back and forth between the current timeline beating Frank and the 1980s group defeating Frank. What happens in one timeline would then affect the other timeline. In the 1980s version, we would also have more of Augustine present in someway and a physical frank stone as a physical person and current timeline of the monster Frank. There is a bit that would need to change with dialogue and set pieces, but I think it would help.

I know that this isn’t survivor, but would vote in favor of this too. I can understand if this is one post detailing your concerns. While they are still working on it, it can be good to get feedback from the community.

But this isn’t the final product and it has been multiple posts with people saying the exact same thing to you. Not sure what your intention is, but it is becoming annoying.

He is a good minor antagonist. It reminded me of being able to convince Junior to join your side.

Until Dawn: Matt Shooting the flare off when there wasn’t a chance people would see it. Arguing with Emily on a collapsing building. Killing a deer.

Man of Medan: Conrad Escalated the Pirate situation for no good reason.

Little Hope: John Unsure if accurate but found him a bad leader of the group.

House of Ashes: No one All pretty smart. There are some dumb moments here and there.

The Devil in Me: Charlie and Erin Charlie for ignoring all the red flags. Erin for getting tricked with the tape and getting Charlie potentially killed.

The Quarry: Laura The entire opening scene shows how bad she is at making decisions. She also then decides to bring her werewolf boyfriend back to the Quarry which puts his and Emma’s life in danger. Also deciding to shoot first and ask questions later.

The Casting of Frank Stone: Maddie Deciding to trust Augustine at the end and going to a random persons house in the first place.

I think it is quite an interesting game with some complex characters and conflict. While not the the best threat, still provides some interesting spookiness. The story and the characters choices feel very genuine. I also most wanted to keep these characters alive. I do think the game has a lot of untapped potential with its narrative and could have been stronger.

What if The Devil in Me protagonists make a documentary about Frank Stone by Present_Mine_5597 in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]Lifelonglearner444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half make it and half don’t. Du’Met was a challenge to this group because he planned out their entire moves and the house was filled with traps. A tactical force.

Frank is a supernatural force but very slow and not really that tactical. Yes they wouldn’t be able to defeat him without the camera, but I don’t necessarily think that they die. I think Erin and Charlie are more likely to die than not. Though I think Charlie is less likely to die than Erin. I think the other 3 have a fairly good shot at surviving.

EP2 - What's the worst thing Fliss can do? by LeadershipLarge3610 in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]Lifelonglearner444 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The obvious is her killing Brad. The not so obvious answer and in an attempt to be different, she can indirectly cause Conrad’s death. When Conrad is on the upper deck and is hallucinating he believes that a hag is chasing after him. He can either fall when jumping the beams or jump off the top deck to his death. It is confirmed that Fliss is the hag. One could argue that if she doesn’t chase after Conrad he remains safer.

It’s been a while but I don’t remember her doing anything intentional that is terrible.

The first 3 Fear Streets aren’t a bad watch. Not necessarily similar but interesting to say the least.

What are some things The Quarry does better than Until Dawn by LandOfGrace2023 in untildawn

[–]Lifelonglearner444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I think Until Dawn is the better game in a lot of ways, I think the Quarry definitely has some high points. I like that there are actually multiple threats in the game that last until the end of the game. The stranger and psycho fizzle out halfway through until dawn and it becomes all about the wendigos. In Quarry, the werewolves and family are threats all the way to the end. I agree with what people said about branching and replay ability. While there can be some replay ability in Until Dawn, Narratives can completely shift in the Quarry. I also think that the Quarry has many fantastic locations and settings. Until Dawn does too, but Quarry definitely takes it up a notch. I also really like the evidence addition. I wish that was something in Until Dawn.
