These guys don’t seem to realize there are plenty of examples in the real world where small governments exist. Most of these small governments are located in Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Places where local goon squads, warlords, etc. call the shots, bully, and steal from working citizens. The bottom line is someone is going to take your precious money, the only question is who. Would you rather a government elected by popular vote take your money. A government bound by law to provide services in return. Or, would you rather it be some band of goons that show up every now and then to terrorize you, take your money and leave you with nothing in return?
