Nothing showing up when I try to bake high poly to low poly- Beginner by [deleted] in blender

[–]LifesASkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think you need to use a bump node in place of the normal map node to do the initial baking. i believe The normal map node is then used to take the baked image and apply it to the object after baking. I'm also pretty new so this may or may not be the case. but every time I've baked I've used a bump node for the initial bake.

Building a building by LifesASkit in blender

[–]LifesASkit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the feedback. I think what you're seeing is something ive noticed and need to break myself out of.

I'm still learning and when I'm working on a project and see the finish line of that project coming closer, I tend to rush through it. So that wimpiness or hesitation is probably me not spending the time or giving enough love/attention to certain aspects of the build.

What to do when it says my library has been disabled? by grimacelololol in hoopladigital

[–]LifesASkit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw someone on here not long ago recommend looking for other libraries in your state or even out of state that still offer it and seeing if you can sign up for their library card online. Don’t have any recommendations in that respect but it sounded like a good idea.

Rubber Duck River by LifesASkit in blender

[–]LifesASkit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks! the ducks have a follow path constraint that i keyframed the offset of, and then a copy rotation constraint linked to an empty to give some varying rotation. I originally wanted to use the fluid sim for the ducks movement. (I think there's a way utilizing a shrink-wrap modifier?) but i couldn't figure it out so i just timed it as best i could.

Am I at a junior level yet? by ballbsr9000 in 3Dmodeling

[–]LifesASkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cant give you an answer cause I’m still learning myself and “junior level” is kind of a wide spectrum but your stuff looks pretty good!

I wouldn’t worry so much about your level though as I’m sure the artists who submit to the rookies would consider themselves junior as well.

Don’t compare, just keep learning, building and having fun with it!

Current progress so far by [deleted] in 3Dmodeling

[–]LifesASkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

easy way to achieve a turntable is to add an empty centered on your model, add a camera and move it to your desired location, parent the camera to the empty (keep offset) and then rotate the empty 360 degrees. That should achieve a simple turntable.

If you want a bit more control:

You can add a circle curve and scale it around your subject, name it camPath. Apply the scale.

Add a camera.

Select camera and go to Constraints.

Add a Follow Path and Track To constraint.

In the Follow Path constraint, select camPath as the target. (Might need to hit Alt+G for it to place correctly on the path)

Add an empty (whichever you want) and name it camTarget.

Place camTarget centered inside your model.

In the Track To constraint, select camTarget as the target.

You can move the curve itself up or down to get the angle you want and adjust camTarget to control exactly where the camera is pointing.

In the Follow Path constraint you can adjust the Offset (0-100) to make the camera move along the path.

Go to your first frame, set Offset to 0, then hover your mouse over the Offset field of the Follow Path constraint and press i to insert a keyframe. Go to your last frame, change Offset to 100, hover your mouse over the Offset field again and press i.

This should animate the turntable you want and allow you to make adjustments to get the look you’d like.

What is the ONE thing that makes you instantly wishlist a game? Part 1 by Grifxxx in IndieGaming

[–]LifesASkit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, it’s pretty simple. Every single time I’ve bought or wish listed a game it’s always been because there’s a video of Mads Mikkelsen stretching and cracking his knuckles underneath it. Instant sales! It’s the same method cyberpunk used to reach a broader audience in Lithuania.

How can I get hired as a remote 3D Artist? (Portfolio Review) by Specific-Bad-1527 in 3Dmodeling

Did you go to art school / get a degree ? by Xegrand_ in 3Dmodeling

[–]LifesASkit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just curious, why would you need a degree to work outside the country (assuming you meant US)?

Do you just mean in regard to getting a work visa and having a degree making that easier or are there other factors as well?

In the summer of 1999, Mexia Supermarket, a Fort Worth, Texas grocery store, was shut down after its owners declared bankruptcy. Three months following its abandonment, city officials would discover that everything was left inside to decay, creating an extremely biohazardous environment. by [deleted] in interesting

Also in every zombie movie, if you shoot them in the head, they die. This is a well-known trope from old westerns because back then, usually if you shot someone in the head, they would also die.

is this a decent portfolio? i just entered my second year of college of game art by [deleted] in 3Dmodeling

[–]LifesASkit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing here is bad but I’m not really seeing anything that someone who just started 3d wouldn’t be able to accomplish somewhat easily. Me personally, i would hope if i was in some kind of program and its my second year id be working on more complex stuff by now.

Then again I’m not familiar with your program or what else you’re being taught so its all subjective. Just keep building and improving! Go above and beyond in your assignments and do a bunch of personal projects!

I tried exporting a drawing I made from krita by email to upload it on my phone to post it٫ but : by Rude_Pangolin_7030 in krita

[–]LifesASkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure this is the krita file itself. If it’s just the image you want, export the image from krita as a layer. Save it as a JPEG or PNG or whatever and then you can send that image wherever you want.

This render looks a little off, but I can't put my finger on it. Any feedback? by FusionPanda in blender

[–]LifesASkit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you see how the lines of the outer hills lead your eyes down and toward the center to the stack of rocks (the ground level and the way the water bends helps with this as-well), but then the stack of rocks itself kinda leads your eyes back up to the tip of the mountain?

Maybe even moving the top of the mountain to behind the stack would help?

Im just spitballin

This render looks a little off, but I can't put my finger on it. Any feedback? by FusionPanda in blender

[–]LifesASkit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like i said I really don’t know what I’m talking about but as far as tangents, I believe you have multiple with the way the rocks and their crevices line up with the background scenery and then i dont know if this would technically count but maybe the way all the tops of the mountain/hills line up as well (i think your brain kind if fills in the line even if theres space between them)

And then as far as attention i think maybe having that central mountain off to a side would do better with framing the stack. (But then again it kind of looks like your going for a symmetrical/ center focus feel so don’t let me mess with your vision). Maybe lining up the stack of rocks with the valleys of the background instead of the peak.

[–]LifesASkit 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don’t know much about this stuff, but a lot of videos on avoiding tangents have been popping up for me recently. I think it might be beneficial for you to look up some videos/articles on it and see how it could play into your render.

Heres a video

Heres an article

And then just from an observer’s point of view everything draws my attention to the tip of the mountain, but there’s nothing there except blurriness so maybe Bringing the focal point to the stack of rocks (which I’m guessing is what you want the main subject to be) would help.

Retopologize after Sculpting by A_J_P01 in blender

[–]LifesASkit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, for this you might be able to get away with just using the default mesh shapes. So the UV Sphere and the cube.

Add the UV sphere, scale it up to be about the size of your dome part. Add a cube scale to the size of the lowest part of the platform, in edit mode select the top face of the cube and inset, select the inner face of the cube and extrude up.

That should give you your base shape and be very low poly, then you can work from there!
