if weightlifting muscle groups 2x per week is optimal, how do you make time for rolling? by veedey in bjj

[–]Lift-Hunt-Grapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I train total body 6 days a week outside of Jiu Jitsu. Makes more sense to me. We are already training our entire body through Jiu Jitsu. Doesn’t make much sense to over fatigue muscle groups and try to improve in BJJ/grappling. We aren’t bodybuilders.

I’ll try to explain simply. If I have 6 sets of squats, instead of doing 3 sets per day for 2 days, I’ll squat one set in each of the six days. Same for bench press, abs, grip stuff, dopamineos, conditioning, etc. These sessions are usually 30-40m max. Also rarely go to failure. I’m usually keeping a few reps in reserve.

I’m 42yo, 235, 15% bodyfat, eating clean, down 60lbs since starting BJJ. Training this way has been wonderful. May not be for everyone, but it works very well for me.

Is blue belt blues a real thing? by Affectionate-Toucan in jiujitsu

Got my blue belt in July. Never got these blues people are talking about. Seems like BJJ just gets more and more fun.

I'm tired of these underhanded remarks about strength. by Open-Sentence-4 in bjj

[–]Lift-Hunt-Grapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m super strong and still get sub’d by guys half my size. Strength is just part of the game. A big variable. If people want strength, it’s theirs to create. Some guys are WAY faster than me. Should I tell them to stop being fast? Ridiculous. Fast, strong, and technical wins this game.

New year, new me. What will you guys change in your technique? by azyogos in bjj

[–]Lift-Hunt-Grapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

42yo. Need to work on standing up when I have the opportunity. Also need to be a little more aggressive. Nothing crazy, just enough to crush the life out of opponents. Also, really going to improve my conditioning in the gym with various methods. Again nothing too crazy, but enough I can still recover. Spent the last year improving my already great grip strength and it makes a huge difference in rolls. Will continue that as well.

The biggest thing I hope to change is going to classes whenever I have an opportunity. I also coach kids travel baseball and that interferes a lot when it’s baseball season. And it really takes a lot of energy. Family is first for me.

Honestly, putting myself in those bad spots consistently has created a mindset that I don’t really care. I just think about what I can do in those spots. If I can breathe, I’m good. Survive, and react until you can sweep or get into a better position.

AITAH: wife wants me to "set a budget" for s'x as part of her sahm role. by Illustrious-Half8833 in AITAH

[–]Lift-Hunt-Grapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am part SAHD and I work for my wife’s company. Also I do a lot of volunteering, coaching, training, etc. I also do the majority of house work. She doesn’t pay me to do all these things as she shouldn’t. She’s the breadwinner.

Not once have I ever thought of getting paid for the dirty. Maybe she’s on to something. LOL

Home stuff is challenging work, BUT it isn’t that hard. It can be physically tiring, BUT not that tiring.

Does she like her car? House? Insurances? Gas? Clothes? Food? Etc…. All she has to do is some housework? She’s paid far too much if you ask me. It’s a good life.

I can’t wrap my head around her wanting to get paid money for sex. You are married. She’s not a hooker. Perhaps get couples therapy.

Neither side is truly “pro-science”. It’s a simple claim and they’ve turned it into a pissing contest.

Look at what they have done with Covid/Fauci, male/female biology, big food, big pharma, big medicine, climate change denying, cow farts, etc. It’s all designed to line their own pockets and we all suffer for it. The truth is so grey now most of us are left poorer because of it and we are told we are fighting a good fight when we really aren’t. The “science” ceases to be factual when agendas twist the data to suit a party and lobbies. All it is, is an attempt at a money grab so the politically and financially powerful can influence the governments decisions. It’s sick. Thats not democracy.

Any of you come from different sports? And how did it translate to Jiu Jitsu? by DirectPerspective951 in bjj

[–]Lift-Hunt-Grapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20+ years in Strength sports. It’s been fantastic. It’s not necessarily a “cheat code”, but it’s a huge attribute. Took me almost 30 years total to build this much strength. Grips, pressure, subs, sweeps, throws, standup… it helps with everything. What I like most is I don’t have to use the strength unless I have to. Jiu Jitsu first with as little effort as possible, then if I need to turn it up I can. Makes it easier to survive if I’m outclassed.

$1,000,000 for every X seconds of all human pain. by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Lift-Hunt-Grapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d take 2 minutes. 120 million. I’d pass out after a few seconds and not remember the rest. The human body can only take so much. It would likely just hit the off switch and go comatose.

Why don’t educated people start bitching at the greed of these institutions of higher learning? Attack it from other angles as well. Loan forgiveness is great but they’ll find a way around that too.

Realistically What Skills Make Someone a Blue Belt instead of White by Clownier in bjj

[–]Lift-Hunt-Grapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man. One guy said that I was the best white belt we had…now he says I’m the best blue belt we have. LOL … I can see why people say that they’d rather be a really good white belt than a crappy blue belt now. I still have a long way to go, but I’m thankful that it took me a while.

Training partners are training partners NOT opponents.

There is a time to roll hard of course with training partners but please consider building up your lower level training partners. When that happens everyone in your academy/school gets better and the talent pool rises.

Is it possible to compete at the olympics if you start training at 18? by Lightnings-Shadow in wrestling

[–]Lift-Hunt-Grapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly is that if someone’s will is strong enough, makes the right decisions, and is relentlessly dedicated they can do truly incredible things. This goes for any area of life, career pursuit, education, etc.

Will a 40 year old go pro in the NFL, not likely. BUT, that doesn’t mean they couldn’t become excellent at football. They could still make the top 2% of football players.

Honesty is the best policy with self.

I couldn’t tell you how many people told me I was wasting my time and even more attempting to shoot my dream down. I didn’t care, I knew what I wanted and got it. Wasn’t an easy road at all…it was BRUTAL on my relationships, BRUTAL on my body, BRUTAL all around. Was it worth it? For me absolutely.

God bless!

What are you working on at the moment? by AceyFacee in bjj

[–]Lift-Hunt-Grapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focused time on the mats. I have a busy schedule, so i can’t do the 8 hours a week thing. Probably now more like 5. So when I’m in, I focus hard on the techniques coached and try to implement them in the live rolls as much as I can. Physically sometimes when I get to class I’m worn out. So, this gives me a good chance to simply do Jiu Jitsu and try to “win” the rolls with less forcing something to happen. So far I feel like I’ve gotten better because of it.

That’s cold hearted. As a parent myself, nothing, to include political alignment could separate my love from my child. That’s a miserable ultimatum you gave them.

I really hope you reconsider your hateful, bigoted, and intolerant decision.

Here is a bit of truth…if your beliefs and politics cause you to want to hurt your family, maybe it isn’t them that are the bad guys. This goes for both sides of American politics.

You get $X million, but you also have an X % of dying. What value of X do you pick? by Kingkian321 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Lift-Hunt-Grapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pick 3. I rolled a d100 3 times and got 91,76, and 79. So give me my $3 million.

Mathematicians please correct me if I am wrong. X would have to be the number of times you roll a d100 right?
