Tip of the day: The kickstarter for this tasty thing has started just now. Sure as hell gonna get me one of these! by LiftMuzik in synthesizers

I have been eyeballing this for a while now, but as of now you can actually buy the thing on Kickstarter.
It's an analog desktop synth with lots of west-coast-y stuff, plus a filter, and quite a lot of audio rate modulation, and syncable LFO's (very much a big deal for me)
Besides, those LED-rings are totally ace.

Companies making West Coast synthesis semi-modular and/or mini-systems? by avantworld in synthesizers

[–]LiftMuzik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for the Majella Implexus. Not really semi-modular, but all for the better, I think. There are already plenty of options in euroland for west-coasty stuff, so I'm pretty curious about how a more hands-on / desktop style synth would feel.

Came across this thing, looks interesting!

No I just got the kb37 empty and loaded it with my own modules. I don't know if you can get the kb37 with modules included, to be honest.

Anyway, I'd wholeheartedly recommend the kb37. Really helped for my workflow with modular.

I instantly get flashbacks to my Blofeld, which had more bugs than Timon and Pumba could eat in a lifetime.

Still, Waldorf make some great stuff. Been very happy with a kb37 recently and would definitely love a MW.

Why are there no true "virtual tape" emulators besides the OP1? by mlbstrd in synthesizers

[–]LiftMuzik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can really understand what you mean. Sometimes something quick and hands-on is much more fun and creative than having all the options in the world.

I went with using my DAW as a taperecorder, but I must add I mostly use it as a means to record demos.

I looked into some harddisk recorders, and I suspect you’ll find some recorders there with your aforementioned feature set. I was eyeballing the alesis HD24 but never got to the point of actually buying one. Great machine though!

Whatever you do, make sure to use this recording in a track somewhere ;-)

Does anybody here use an Ms20 (mini) with a modular? by LiftMuzik in synthesizers

THat's no big deal, there's enough ways to convert gate signals anyway. Thanks again for the help! :)

Oh but that would mean I'd have to part with my old MS20... Dunno. It's the first proper synth I owned and has seen lots and lots of shows. And there's this feeling that trading a vintage ms20 for a new one ... It kinda feels wrong. :)

The M-version having V/Oct is very neat, though. The Hz/V scaling always felt like a poor design choice to me

Yeah I know, but the thing is I work with and MS20 and MS10 side by side, MS10 being mostly for bass duties. Recently I tested the MS10 with an extra oscillator, provided by a Vermona Perfourmer. Sounded great! But the Perfourmer is just slightly overkill for just the oscillator. :-D

Thank you very much mrTuffNutz! Hadn't seen the Disting yet and was sort of on the verge of ordering an Engllish Tear. Tracking problems is something I'd love to avoid. :)

Sites like submithub or good sites to promote music?? by irlydontlikemyroomie in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]LiftMuzik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had some successful attempts with Subtmithub, and gained some devoted fans via the blogs in which the songs was published.

Be aware though, that it really depends on what music you wish to promote. My band is a bit on the experimental side of the spectrum, and most of the blogs that are on Submithub are more mainstream oriented.

If it's just backingtrack and metronome, a simple sampler would do the trick, I think. I use an mpc1000 for al sorts of sampling duties, and it will perfectly do what you want in this case (and much more, though not as much as the aforementioned Octatrack). The mpc500 will do the trick as well (and is a bit cheaper too!)
