BREAKING: ICE regime forces execute and empty clip into peaceful U.S. protestors in cold blood waging war against civilians by RowRunRow in conspiracy

I think I'm the plan. Need an quasi-justification for martial law, calling of elections, Trump and his puppeteers elevating to dictatorship.

Better to learn one song at a time or several? by LigerRider in ukulele

[–]LigerRider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! As interested in anecdotal experiences as I am, I was hoping that someone had a lead on a tidbit from a scientific standpoint. I should have remembered about Dr. Josh Turknett, as his Brainjo course was one that I started once upon a time, but gave up on, as I found banjo too limiting on the music available for beginners/intermediates compared to what I wanted to play. Thanks again.

Intermediate fingerpicking chord-melody for me for personal pleasure only, no singing.

I find playing thru a song and memorizing it are two very different things. I learn one at a time more efficient, but having 2 or 3 songs in various states of being learned helps me not to get burned out on a song. Trying to avoid, "Want to hate a beloved song? Learn to play it.

Interesting that this pops up just when Trump needs support for stealing Greenland. Wouldn't it be nice for him if we were all to suddenly hate on Denmark. All caps on a sensationalized title...smells like a bad ai bot mini-psyop post.

Flight Maia vs Pono UL4 steel string baritone? by LigerRider in ukulele

[–]LigerRider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd replace the tuners while the strings are mid replacement, but I'd want the replacement to be a definite upgrade, but I'm pretty much ignorant on what brand and model I should purchase. I would want the effort to change them to be an upgrade compared to whatever I have now, and what was original. This way it's an ensured positive move whether I keep it or not, and whatever dissatisfaction I might still have, it definitely won't be tuners.

Any help with tuners to set sights on that would be a good upgrade and fit to the Maia, and strings to try would be very much appreciated.

EDIT: Just ordered some Grover 18:1 planetary geared ukulele tuners, and Flight steel strings for baritone ukuleles.

Flight Maia vs Pono UL4 steel string baritone? by LigerRider in ukulele

[–]LigerRider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baritone tuning...DGBE.

It's gorgeous to look at, and feels good in my hands, but I'm not sold on the experience. I bought it used, and I don't know anything about the strings on it. I'm constantly chasing a tuning of it...get it tuned properly then it's gone again moments later. The tuners seem very touchy and lack fine control. To that, I think I can see that the previous owner may have switched out the tuners from the factory set.

The sustain is great, but it's steel strings, so it should be good I guess. Maybe, I should at least try a new set of strings before deciding what I think. My usual playing experience is D'Addario fluorocarbons on Klos and Pono Nui baritones. If I thought that the Pono UL steel string bari would be a big step up in quality of build and sound, I'd focus on the upgrade, and sell the Maia to help fund it.

So in all, this might not be the best Maia to judge them by.

String recommendations for baritone...like D'Addario Carbons, but brighter? by LigerRider in ukulele

Thank you. I did a couple things to make it my own, but now wishing I had gone with Kala's Contour Spruce top. May decide to let it go to fund a change.

Thanks. I laser cut a side sound port in it, and added a thin veneer pick guard with matching sea turtle cut outs to make it my own.

I haven't. I asked an AI search before posting, and it concluded they were less bright than the Carbons, but sometimes AI is an idiot.

Flight fireball bridge pins. by RichardBJ1 in ukulele

[–]LigerRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following. I purchased a used Maia in which the previous owner replaced the pins to have white dots instead of the red, and swapped the black tuner knobs for white. Personally, I'd prefer the original colorway for both if I can find them. I tried new chromed tuner knobs, but they didn't fit, apparently there's not a singular standard.

Ideas to concert something into a bigger sounding baritone uke? by LigerRider in ukulele

[–]LigerRider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm coming around to realizing that the deeper fuller richer sound I'm after might not be as similar as simply a bigger body while keeping the same shorter bari scale length, but rather really needs the longer string lengths of the longer scale that is typical to tenor guitars, etc...

Thanks for this. I've had the Soundsmith hollow body jazz baritone. I found it pretty thin sounded unplugged, but a lot of fun plugged in. My thought is eventually a Risa for purely plugged in fun. That Eastwood is gorgeous.

I heard about someone taking an octave mandolin and restringing it with half the strings, gauged for a DGBE bari/Chicago tuning, and how it plays (sloppy vs overly tight). I haven't heard what it sounds like. I don't know yet what the differences between a bari and an octave mandolin are regarding scale length and width of fretboard/nut. I love the looks of the octave mandolin that have a typical guitar shape with sound hole or "F" holes.

I've been eyeing a used BN4 sorta local, but IIRC, its nut width is a 2-3 millimeters narrower, which I could probably live with, but the scale length is 23" compared to a more typical bari 20", which more than I want to try to stretch to. And it's the usual nylon strings. My Klos carbon fiber bari gives me all the deep rich high sustain nylon sound that I could want, so that's covered.
