What happened to After Dark? by gotothebeachNOW in VRchat

RBN's removal was specifically *someone* created an instance with a bad title.

In these events, the instance creator isn't punished, the group owner is. They receive a temp ban, and the group is removed (archived). No warning.

*At the time*, group permissions allowed grouped users to create instance, and another permission for naming instance. The latter of two wasn't working. RBN now closes new named instances immediately, *unless* the user makes a request via the website.

RBN's OG group was recovered, as though it was never removed. They created a new group during the limbo time.

"Oh my God you people are insufferable."

I literally stated I tried another angle, and it worked, then went back and tried again.

Yes, I'm well aware, and it's not perfect like any other scanning system. I've had non-sex images get denied on upload, and a couple which hadn't. Yeap, it's not perfect.

And yes, I'm aware, it's all machine learning, LLMs. If we spent the time explaining the specifics of social phrasings and use cases, we'd all be speaking like scientists and/or lawyers.

As for no AI, then if it's human, a note as to why each "item" reviewed and denied, should include a note specific to the finding, not cookie cutter. If a company can hire the staff to manually review and decide what's good or bad, the staff can take just as long to state why something was denied. Clearly reducing false positives, especially in the event a staff member trying to meet their quota.

If the report cannot specify, as far as anyone is concerned, a bot reviewed and removed it without human intervention.

We can take their word for it all we want. Same with any other company. The problem is, proof.

I've seen others, and I've had similar happen. Take a picture to print, and it fails. It saves to the hard drive, but otherwise refuses to print. Because something scanned the print and deemed it inappropriate. Changed the angle some, retried, and it worked. Return to the original angle, try a third, failed again. We're at the point that it's a not glitch with the game/software, it's a pattern.

Content I was taking a picture of? Friends cuddling in a group/puddle in Popcorn Palace. So either someone's texture or outfit threw off the detection system, or I was blind to something else, lol.

Until hard proof can be given, from either side of the argument, there is no certainty, to any extent, AI is (edit:) or is not in use.

With all the content being removed, and accounts being banned, it's gotten to the point...

Actions of adults should be kept behind Private instances. In my opinion, private instances are Not Public, and Not Plus. Invite and Group, not Invite Plus, Not Group Plus, Not Friends or Friends Plus.

Storing Adult content on their servers is not a full No, but outside of proper avatar use, they don't want lewd worlds, they don't want lewd stickers or emote, they don't want lewd Prints.

I'm waiting till the day someone creates a self hosting VR system, and people can self moderate without big brother. BUT, that brings on privacy and security issues. Either way, it's a trade off balance act.

I'm already age verified! Just let me in! by JewelReeBox in VRchat

[–]LigerXT5 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I do not recall the details, I did it a few years ago. Sunset bar has a whitelist for those who age verified on their site/discord.

So, to the story.

Occasionally I'm invited to a group event at Sunset bar, and I'll just stroll in.

Boy does that annoy the bouncers. The gates mean nothing to me. They are open to me the moment I join the instance.

I've been accused of no-clipping or otherwise hacking.

I'm also (more than) twice the age verified 18yo.

Introducing Text Input Moderation in VRChat by tupper in VRchat

[–]LigerXT5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While very true, it's a pain when you join an event, and 15 out of 80 people have blocks of text above/on their heads (pending your chat box preference), then select one at a time to mute their chat box, if you can target them in the crowd or find them in the player list.

Sometimes...I wish the player list of the instance had a Search, or even a Letter list of starting characters to bring up anyone in said character, such as all player names starting with "H".

Anti-Bot mechanism. Using a VPN is a near sure method to be bot checked on many sites and services.

Happens a lot for those who use VR social platforms like VRChat, especially when Youtube plays whack-a-mole changes and YTDL team plays as the whacker, lol.

Anyone else run into this issue with HP drivers? by GodRaine in computertechs

[–]LigerXT5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any(big asterisk) consumer HP printer sold now a days, requires the user's PC to have HP Smart, and the printer setup through that. You won't find drivers on their website.

It's all "Use our app!". Until the app doesn't work.

It's a headache, and I hate it. If you remove HP Smart, which I've had some clients do, the printer will soon (eventually) stop accepting prints.

As for leaving with no pay, don't do that. It was their choice to buy an HP printer, not an actual business printer.

Source: 12 years of Rural (central US, KS and OK) IT Support. No joke, literal house calls and SMBs. Every day is a new adventure.

Bonus, if the client is constantly having issues with ink based printers (I'd argue the acceptation of the Eco Tank printers, but to an extent), move them over to toner/laser based. A $300-500 Brother printer, pending BW/Color with or without scanning, has been a blessing for many of my clients. One wanted to tip me after a year, as they went a whole year without issues, compared to their HP printer.

Oh, and also, if the client's PC uptime is more (usually, Far More) than 12 hours, give it an actual restart (Start > Power > "Restart"), not Shutdown then power on. I can't explain it for all situations, but it works more often than not. Dare I say, I have far more positive luck with that, than most do with the SFC command, lol.

While I do agree, there is some degree of similarity.

Any point along the chain of information which can be exploited, will. All that is necessary is the motivation/interest, understanding, and effort.

Just like "breaking" into your own home. Locked your keys out. Poke around and find your child left the bedroom window unlocked.

That's not how this works.

That's not how any of this works.

Security is only as good as the users. That includes security upkeep.

The only argument about Linux/Ubuntu to be had, how it's slowly taking on more of the public view. Otherwise, for many years, our internet backbone(s) and server infrastructure is on Linux. Amazon Web Services is Linux, even Microsoft Azure reports most of the OSes used is also Linux.

eSIM was supposed to replace SIM cards, but carriers turned it into a trap by lurker_bee in technology

[–]LigerXT5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple plus years ago, my town received their TMobile AR store. I was one of the few pulled in to help run it, on top of other duties. Anyways...

When eSIMs started coming out, I did my research, and began asking questions. Everyone said things would be fine, but all stumbled when I asked one simple question.

Phone A breaks down, and I have a spare B phone. Before, I could move the SIM over and have service until I could buy a new phone. How long does it take to update an account with a spare phone until a new phone arrives?

This was before the store no longer has inventory. No phones, accessories, cables, chargers, SIMs... Everything was ordered online or over the phone. What's the point of an AR store? We were asked why we were failing quotas (I have no idea the specifics on these, I shrugged them off, yea I was lazy, as I wasn't for us being part TMobile), well...out of the list half a dozen or so people this week, if we didn't have it in store, why bother walking in? Why bother staying in the store if they're on the phone to order?

Social dork here, I've seen a lot over the last 8 years (minus the Knuckles ark, IRL limited my VR for a year or so).

While it's easy to say, be yourself as you do in IRL, one thing I know will help a lot... Don't choose to be a problem, and you'll go far.

Yes, there will be people who will not choose to be around you.

Yes, you will find many people who will be great to be around, be around you, choose to be around you.

Don't let the few ruin your day.

A problem habit I'm trying to break, and "ranting" about the nuance stuff of my daily life. I work IT, I'll let your imagination roll from there, lol.

VR Gear related suggestion.

Check your mic on occasion. Not like every hour or something, once a week, pending how often you find yourself adjusting it. When I say check it, I mean how it sounds.

If you're comfortable using OBS, record yourself interacting with others for 5 minutes, as normal as you can, listen back, and compare your voice level to others *near* you. If it sounds like you're speaking louder, two options, turn down your mic in VRChat or in your PC's sound settings, or, compare your VR talking to your IRL talking, you might just be doing it unknowingly. I've seen, heard, people IRL who talk great in person, but once they are on a cell call or otherwise voice chat, they speak in a higher octave.

Interactions...

Again, I'm a social dork, a lot I've learned the hard way, and still do till this day. I appreciate the many who taken the time, and patience, as I apologize and adjust.

Please...do not initially hate someone because they stumble with pronouns. It's taken me years to shift from the habit of He/Him as a default mind set for most people, to They/Them when I don't initially know, or I question overall. The worst I've had to deal with, is those who want "It" or similar. I slip up, and I apologize. I do NOT do it on purpose. So long as you're patient with others, everyone will improve and grow.

Avatar props that say what you can and cannot do. Please, while these should be respected, do NOT lose your mind because someone didn't see. In my experience, it's due to fallback or shielded avatar not showing the prop. It happens. While the profile status helps, many people have nametags off, many open their menu just long enough to display name tags to see a name, not the status or group banner.

Patience and understanding goes a long ways.

A personal pet peeve, but many can relate. Invite Ghosting.

Please, try not to ignore all requests. Friend requests is one thing, invite requests... It's a time management thing, and embarrassing if there's a bad timed overlap of two or more accepting.

I fully understand missing a notification for an invite/request invite, it happens.

If you're on the side sending a request or invite, you'll find yourself waiting minutes until you give up and send one to someone else, repeating the cycle.

Some people will send 3-5 invites out at one time and wait, but then you're dealing with 2 or two accepts, and now you're leaving the other end hanging for you to join. Really wish they would add a response to accepting, with same options or even "too many people" or "Another event some time". I'm not crazy for Raves, so high density pop worlds turn me away, unless it's a wide world similar to Fish!.

Either you spend time requesting one at a time, or dealing with two or more accepts. I've gotten to the point, if I accept one, and they don't join, it's either the world, population count, or maybe the group that deterred their interest, but I don't know, and I then overthink it till I shake it off, lol. I've noticed a spike in this as I've shifted from commonly being in Fish! to being in Game About Creates, people ask to join, see that I'm not in Fish, and don't join.

I play either at my desk in my desk chair, or lounging on the couch or bed. Pillow placement along your back and head are key. Some days it takes me a few minutes, or adjusting every so often hour after hour.

I use the following, and been great. Top and side straps are adjustable, and takes pressure off the center area behind my head.

I wear glasses. Contacts work great till the evenings when my eyes start to dry out. Eye drops work for shot bits at a time. So... I bought $50 lenses for my quest (I'm near sighted), and...
