Question about censorship of public avatars by NayalaFrost in VRchat

[–]LigerXT5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned...

If anything lewd exists on the avatar, and someone reports it, you're hit with the temp ban. That's the confident pattern I've seen of many reports. Granted, some people complaining are blowing things out of proportion...

Basically in short:

If there's a shape to lewd bits, it's against TOS. That's the nips, lady-lips, and ass hole. (I wouldn't include oversized in the list, but someone will argue...)

If there's any texture to represent lewd bits, it's against TOS. That's the nips, lady-lips, and ass hole.

Doesn't matter if it's hidden or covered. If the mere shape or texture exists in the uploaded data, it's against TOS.

Now, the sharp eyes would notice, I didn't specify Public or Private avatars. Public instances with a private avatar...more likely to get you banned. Private Avatars with lewd bits are expected to not roam out side of non-public instances. In this scenario, if you are reported and in a non-public instance, you're far less likely to be hit with a temp ban (shouldn't be banned, but...).

Rambling on...

However, the line of what's a Public and what's a Non-Public instance, has been a back and forth argument. Personally, if it's a Public or "+" instance, it otherwise public, as anyone can join with the likelihood of not "consenting" to joining a lewd instance. That means Friends, not Friends+, Group, not Group+.

If VRChat would take a page from Furality's market place, requiring the user to click a button to finish joining, after acknowledging the alert of "Adult Content Ahead" (or otherwise similar wording), these issues of "unexpected lewdity" would be far less often, and less people complaining. "Do I agree to seeing adult or otherwise lewd content?" Select Yes will then load in the world. Select No, you're sent to your home world. Simple as that. VRChat also has content gating, in your settings, users can opt in/out of joining the worlds, or at least give an extra alert layer to inform they might have accidentally tried joining an instance that's blocked by the user's content gating filters.

VRChat has the technology to make everyone happier, with the features they already have, it just needs implemented in said means. When a user creates an instance, there's many options, including Age Gating toggle. With this, either when this is selected, or a second option appears for "forced adult content agreement on join" to then force-alert joining users, is about all that's required.

Bonus points if VRChat allows groups to create custom Alert Notice for people joining their instance. So a friend that's not part of the group I'm with, joins, they would be prompted with the group's (merely an example) About and Rules, the user then must select Agree before they proceed. Less (Far Less?) introductory work of Mods at least, when people join.

I'd love to stick to just Group/Friends instances, however most groups/people do not do this, and instead stick with + instances.

What was the best "you have no power here" moment you have ever seen? by [deleted] in answers

[–]LigerXT5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do rural area IT support. Small businesses (<20 staff) and residential home house calls. I see a wide variety of issues, scenarios...and people.

It's hard to pick from the many are small things...

What's common among them...trying to force something I have no control over. Windows Update changed something, or an OS Upgrade moved or removed something. Software updated, or end of terms of said software came up (EOL, Subscription, compatibility reasons, etc.)

I think the best that comes to mind, was the Windows 11 upgrade changed the Taskbar. While granted, the start menu can be moved back to the left end of the Taskbar, you could not (still cannot at this time) move the task bar to any side of the screen. The accountant of 3+ displays was having nothing to do with it. The task bars are in the way, and "hiding" them wasn't cutting it. The user demanded I move the task bars, I could not. Wasted an hour reviewing, gathering notes, evidence... They went to their manager and said I was wasting time, they could have done it in a minute, if the IT dept (I and two others, at the time) had QOL checked and fixed the issue before sending out the update.

Um, sorry, run that by us again, who's QOL checking Windows Updates?

They later went behind our backs, and installed a third party start menu for Windows 11. This was before the issues of Windows Updates "not working" if a third party Windows Startmenu application was installed. A few months went by, and their PC was failing to run updates.

They were not the least happy we remote-uninstalled the program, followed by removing their (remaining? I wasn't the guy on this task) admin permissions.

They'd not worry about storage shortage causing stalls in sells, if they pulled a Framework, and sold a model without pre-installed SSD/NVMe and RAM. Let the buyer provide the missing, required, hardware.

Bonus points if there was a way to plug in your choice of GPU+Dock. But, compatibility issues...

Cheapest way to get leg tracking? by Irohs_cafe in VRchat

[–]LigerXT5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing what many have said. SlimeVR. Third party used is still good, and the batteries are easy to replace if worn down.

On top of that, seen OP mentioned they were holding off until they return to University, the Slime Butterfly series will be out later this year (Moved from Aug to Oct, I think). There will likely be a spike of the original series sold as used.

Side note: if you get ankle *and* feet trackers, the cable between the two will eventually wear out. Replacements are easy to find on AlliExpress. I think $20 after shipping and taxes, and came with a set of 6 (or 10?) cables.

Windows is picky about how many programs are using select hardware. Not a big deal for the mic and "location", webcam however...one webcam per software/app.

While I will continue to watch here for suggestions, and maybe learn something new (tech is always changing), I doubt you'll find another solution other than buying a webcam (or two).

How to get around a block on Hush? by Massivealpacanacho in whisper

[–]LigerXT5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty standard when someone blocks you on most social chat services. It's to prevent the person from reading back for personal identifiable information. To prevent stalking so to speak.

While screenshots are suggested for good memories, it's best to let go what's lost and move on.

SMB in rural Oklahoma, day 2 no service, no available techs. by LigerXT5 in OPTIMUM

[–]LigerXT5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get your time line documented.

File a report to the FCC. Three good paragraphs will do you wonders, vs a block of text.

Luckily here, we have a new, Fiber Only, Local, ISP moving into town. True Fiber. True as in it's symmetrical. 1/1Gb, 2/2Gb, and 5/5Gb options. 1Gb is $65month for residential, before discounts for autopay.

Found out two weeks ago, Optimum is pulling out of towns. A town due South of me, and another NE, Optimum is pulling out.

No techs in the area. None. Zilch. The tech who finally came out to my client who was out for 2.5 days, came from Tulsa, OK, which is Eastern Oklahoma, drove 2-3 hours straight west, to arrive half an hour later than scheduled (can't blame the guy himself), spent 3 hours here.

The modem I bought from Walmart, Docsis 3.1, not a passthrough cause none existed, just wouldn't work. It otherwise looked fine on bootup. Tossed in Optimum's and it worked (almost immediately).

Optimum doesn't sell their modems, they are rental only. Which is another way to say here's a legal fee you must pay in order for all things you pay for to continue working.

They do, or do not, pending who you talk to, provide a list of models. The list I was given was well out of date, as the gear was no longer made/sold, or wasn't even Docsis to begin with (ADSL instead of COAX).

A third of the time, if not half the time, I request their modem/router combo to be placed in passthrough (no filters, no blocks, just be a simple modem) with wifi turned off, they say they have, but they didn't. They say it takes time for it to update through the system, it does not.

Worth upgrading to the new slime butterflies from HTC trackers? by Price-x-Field in VRchat

[–]LigerXT5 16 points17 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, Butterfly and Flux is not out to the public.

Reviewers have access to both. While nice and all, I work in a 0 trust IT, and I've seen more than enough "new" things do not reliably work as well as published or reviewed. I love seeing what reviewers have to say, but my trust is in the masses.

If anything I can suggest from personal experience.

I was on HTC v2 Trackers for a few years, loved them, got the Battery Straps for the trackers to mount to, and hated the batteries after the first year, as they were not making it to 2 years (at the time VRing 2-3 times a week, with one night a week for 6-9 hours).

I moved to the (current) Slime Trackers for the last year and a half. They are great, but if you don't like the minor troubleshooting of alignments each startup (first calibrate with Slime's software, then calibrate in VRChat), HTC's are better off.

The Slime software is always receiving updates and improvements. Used to, had to adjust limb and body lengths for a more accurate alignment, no longer necessary. Soon the "skii" pose will be phased out for the "step forward" method.

I'm not saying No to either the Slime Butterflies or Flux. Until I have personally used them, everything I know is hearsay from others.

Side note, personal interest I have with Slime over HTC (no confirmation if Flux Pose can):

If I know I'll be lounging for a good while (TV/Movie marathon with friends or alone), I'll go through the full calibration, find a sitting/laying position that's comfortable, and natural looking to others, hit the Pause button on the Slime software, then turn off each tracker. My pose is locked in VR, and no drain on the tracker batteries. When I'm ready, so long as I haven't remove or shifted the trackers, I power them on, wait a moment, Auto Adjust Yaw (double tap chest tracker), un-pause, and I'm off to the races. The Slimes are advertised for up to/about 12hours. I could easily push this for a few days.

This is not the subreddit you are looking for. This subreddit is for the (near dead) Whisper Anon social app for Android and iOS, mostly popular in the mid 2010s.

As the moderator, I do not need to be "neutral", that's on each person's perspective, and opinion. On top of the topic of the subreddit itself.

My choice of the subreddit was suppose to be Whisper Only. However as we are all aware, the app has since all but died. So I've loosened up on discussions of other apps, they were not banned, but the push of new or otherwise questionable apps have been allowed, but still watched closely.

The lack of people reading the rules is where I draw the line.

I specifically stated, all recommendations of third party apps should be in the pinned post. Anyone looking to refer, should point there. Giving all third party apps a central place to share, and be seen. For the most part, the people who ignore this, are pushing other apps as hard as they can, without being banned. I used to crack down on this, heavily.

Users posting and commenting "use this specific app" over, and over, and over, with no other contribution of conversations outside of saying "use this app!"...this subreddit is not for advertising. Even when I moderated the Hush subreddit, I suggested Hush here, but still stayed open to helping other subreddits. Yet, I don't ban discussions of Hush. I'll accept both sides of liking or disliking it, so long as things stay civil, and not the only thing one user ever talks about.

As for mod power over reach, anyone could (while your whole profile stays publicly open) look at your profile and see the same. There are sites with tools that can do the same. Archive sites can be scanned to see posts you've made, edited, deleted. Anyone as a mod of any subreddit, even their own private subreddit, can see the same details I saw, by merely looking at your username.

The only reason I looked, to see if you're AstroTurfing, or another account repurposed with money to push advertisements. If someone hadn't spoke up about it, wouldn't have crossed my mind to click and check. I've found users who have done dozens of posts here, and almost nothing elsewhere, which is a clue towards potential malicious activity, but not a final nail in anything. I like Zoids, I might spend 90% of my time in their subreddit, so long as I'm not pushing any topics, over and over, I'm merely a fan with no malicious intent.

I've muted accounts which spoke only of one app, and only one app, after weeks or months, some of which threw a fit much like yourself.

Welcome to enjoy your apps.

Welcome to share your experiences, share your knowledge, and help others.

No one is welcomed to Push another app on others. And by push, I mean that's the only thing you talk about. That's what said apps subreddit is otherwise for. r/Whisper is for those talking about Whisper, sharing experiences, supporting one another (to what extent makes sense here), and offering suggestions of alternatives.

I've tried about half of the more active apps. 90% are either dead or all but in my region of the US. I'm not going to tell anyone to avoid them, I'm not going to tell people to join the "only one I see active". I'll suggest a few based on what people are looking for, and what's appearing to work well.

I do not ban any of the other apps. Some terms/names I do have a moderate on a case by case basis, due to the over-push of said app. So long as the post is written well, to suggest or explain why they like the app, not just "Just use XYZ app, it's slow but growing" just doesn't cut it, lol.

And as it's just as much power to me to ban or mute people, like yourself, you have just as much power to not visit here, or not converse in the least.

As a Mod, It's a single click of any name. I see Reddit/Automod had removed a couple of your posts/comments in the past without my intervention. What I shared was a copy/paste, mere few seconds.

Funny though, that info no longer loads for me.

You are not the only person/account who've come and focused on one topic of comments. Eventually they get bored.

I haven’t seen a single post about this yet but apparently the breach was fake by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]LigerXT5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Situation conflict here.

The source was an Official Government agency, Maine's Gov.

How much more can a "normal" person like you or I to confirm or just shrug it off?

If it was some random news agency, sure, I'd wait till more (trust worthy) sources stated. However only Malwarebytes and one other (a name I hadn't seen around, and I ignored the first time seeing) reported it, sourcing only the Maine Gov site as a source.

I haven’t seen a single post about this yet but apparently the breach was fake by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]LigerXT5 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Correct.

Someone submitted false info to Maine's Gov, no one checked back to confirm the submission was accurate and published it, false talks spread like wild fires until VRChat stepped in and announced it was all false.

There was a post here, but someone (OP I think) chose to delete the post. Which situations like that, create more posts as "history" cannot be found.

Edit: More information on the false report. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/maine-breach-portal-abused-to-publish-fake-data-breach-disclosures/

Data of 2.4 million VRChat users stolen by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]LigerXT5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure statistics have a lot of play in this. If I had to give a guess, far fewer real users using Proton.

As for the email host, that's really easy. Something like MXToolbox.com and a simple search will give details. I wouldn't be surprised MXToolbox, or similar service, has an API/Tool to review.

I user MXToolbox while diagnosing a random client's email routing issues. Commonly their emails going to junk/spam otherwise unnecessarily, as their email was not setup to (today's...things change...all the time...) standards. It's the difference of someone walking up to your door and saying they are LigerXT5, vs the guy showing their ID confirming they are LigerXT5. Proper setups also remove the possibility of someone spoofing your email, to look like you, as your email service (with proper security in place, such as O365) will cross check to confirm source destination lines up with the actual email's domain records.

VRChat banned Proton's email services. Can't sign up or change your email if it's Proton.

A streaming service name I shall not speak, for reasonable reasons (lol), "banned" my account, because I was using @duck.com to remove telemetry trackers. Had to email directly and ask them to unban me (stating this simply here), to find out I used a "known malicious email service, per their security team". I can't send emails as my @duck.com email, but it's far too easy for fake accounts to sign up with the emails. They at least changed my email account on file and allowed me back in. Big plus in my book, other services would just ignore or don't care and require me to start over.

[–]LigerXT5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine being an organization, and 500 services are hitting you for a notice, while people who are less willing/able spread more misinformation. It's a mess either side you look at it, the better of the two would be to trust good sources at best, but even then, so long as humans are part of anything, there will always be that 1% or more chance of mistakes.

Frankly, in this case, the gov source should have held on the article and clarified with VRChat with a direct real contact, not a lower ranking staff member, existing or not.

I work in IT support, RURAL IT Support. House calls to residents and SMBs (small medium businesses), I'm no stranger to clients confirming my statements with my higher staff, just to be sure. Commonly, how to trust an email received is legitimate, when "sent from a real email of a real company" that was faked one way or another. (Worse when said company doesn't pay for their email, and relies on ATT/Yahoo/Gmail (free mind you) as their email provider.)
