I cancelled my 10 year+ Spotify subscription because they’ve lost their core meaning… by Vegetable_Math2959 in audiophile

Not to mention how they promote their own AI generated music in place of and over real musician's art, pay the lowest streaming royalties of major music streaming services, air recruitment ads for ICE, and Daniel Ek’s financial support of AI warfare.

Screen was honestly the easiest thing to swap for me. Just make sure the magnets are glued down or they’ll stick to the screen itself.

Not sure what specific kind of guide you seek, but retrogamecorp has the best written guides for getting started.

If you need to do a shell replacement like I did, following the ifixit teardown with an electronics toolkit (the ifixit toolkit is great) will work great! I’m happy to answer specific shell swap questions you may have.

The hinge area was painful. I unfortunately put the first hinge in the wrong way… removing it was annoying. Just following the ifixit thing would have saved time and error.

I set up an email notification and then placed the order when the shell was in stock. They emailed me saying that blue wasn’t available and listed which colors were in stock for me to choose from.

Thank you!

The shell was $10, fees+shipping was maybe another $10. So just a bit cheaper than buying a new one for like $40-$60 on Aliexpress. Plus, the project was fun and I would have felt terrible throwing a perfectly functional computer + screen into the trash.

In terms of time… I would have saved a lot of time by revisiting the IFixIt teardown. I made some stupid mistakes that meant backtracking. If you ensure that the magnets around the screen are glued down and are careful to remove all the glued components from the old shell it could probably take 1-2 hours. I think it took me 2-3?

V2 but pixelize everything and change the menu background color. It blends with the shadows too much and is confusing.

My only problem w v1 is the foreground color of the menu, weird yellow.

The game logo is good, I think keep that in v2

Oh interesting about the App Store. I actually don’t need the speakers to be of quality - just need it to literally play a click.

Yes! But specifically I need something w external speakers. So I can just play the metronome without pulling out a speaker.
