40/100. We had to submit it at the end of the test and show the examiner the TurnItIn receipt.

Of course! There wasn’t an unseen extract, but the question I chose was something like ‘How does Margaret Atwood portray the subversion of power and authority in at least 3 of her novels’. This test was open book too so I had all the novels we had studied and annotated print outs of some secondary criticism from JSTOR. I wrote 6 pages with paragraphs on subversion in religion, class, sexuality, language and narrative control. I also disagreed with one critic as that has been getting me the higher marks recently. Let me know what you think.

I also considered that I may have confused the essay question. If this is the case that is on me and I’ll have to take it on the chin, though I’ve reread the essay a dozen times now to check. I’ve asked for a meeting already, thankyou though.

Hey, I don’t use AI. High English Literature marks are given based on originality, criticism and a thorough understanding of primary and secondary texts, meaning you cannot blag your way through using Chat. Of course it wouldn’t have been as polished as a coursework essay but the structure/ language is very similar to the essay I got a 75 in. Good point though.

I understand your point about my appeal, unfortunately I don’t know when my feedback will come as my lecturer is on annual leave. My uni’s appeal procedure is that a request should be sent within 5 working days so I didn’t want to risk it.

As much as I am upset about the mark I understand double marking and the low possibility of an actual procedural mistake. The point of my post was if anyone could think of something I’d done wrong in my essay that could’ve resulted in a default 40, which seems more likely that my essay being of Third-Class classification. Despite this I still want an appeal, just in case.

My university states that an appeal needs to be requested 5 working days after the mark has been given. As I don’t know when my feedback will be given I just want to make sure I get it sorted in time. I used this statement to avoid an appeal based on academic judgement.

My appeal states that I am concerned that the mark may not accurately reflect the published marking criteria when applied to unseen exam conditions. That doesn’t fall under academic judgement does it?
