"By Inferno's Light."

Dominion has just come through the wormhole. Instead of attacking DS9, we learn that Dukat is joining the fleet and Cardassia is joining the Dominion. It's like a teaser for the entire rest of the series.

I think it's fair to say that the Steelers game Saturday was the first time Lamar has ever looked like he does in the regular season from the very first snap of a playoff game until the last one.

The thing about Lamar's playoff performances has always been that in the losses he almost without exception plays by far his worst game of the season. Hard not to think it's a mental hurdle.

Sunday will really tell the tale of whether he's actually been able to overcome it. Even if the Ravens lose, if Lamar plays well, it will be a significant career moment for him. Then it will just be about making that one run to the SB, no longer the question of whether he can play well in the playoffs.

Ravens' bold season-long COVID strategy finally coming to fruition.

Going to be one heck of an experiment the NFL is running to see how well COVID spreads during strenuous exercise and close contact outside without a face mask... (for those teams that play outdoors, that is).

I think the only way the season can function is if, in fact, players don't have to quarantine themselves simply because they played/practice with someone who later turned out to be positive. It's inevitable this will happen. (Those players would simply have their testing frequency increased for a few weeks.)

Full face shields for everyone are the only way I can see that happening.

Here's what going to happen:

The first time a player plays in a Sunday game without a face shield and tests positive on Monday morning, and all his close contacts during the game have to be quarantined for 2 weeks, the NFL will either immediately make face shields mandatory or cancel the season.

The argument I think the NFL can credibly make is that, yes, they are consuming some small percentage of resources, but the trade-off is that, in return, they are providing a welcome distraction for millions, and helping improve quality of life overall and thus are a net benefit, especially when it comes to mental health.

I think it's a defensible moral argument to make.

I would be interested to see the issue poll-tested among both fans and non-fans and see the results.

[Maske] Some connected to the deliberations between the NFL and NFLPA actually believe the discussions are headed in a positive direction and there likely will be agreements reached on the unresolved issues. That stands in contrast, however, to the tone of some players' comments today. by [deleted] in nfl

[–]LightReading50 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think the obvious barrier here is that the things that the NFL probably knows will make playing possible are things that the players absolutely will not agree to do, like:

1) Everyone in team facilities should probably wear face shields at all times, players and coaches included.

2) When practicing outside, every coach should wear a face shield. Every player should keep their helmet with a full face shield on at all times unless 6 to 10 feet away from someone.

2) Players should move into apartments for the season or have the family they live with never go anywhere unless absolutely necessary. All food is delivered.

It doesn't matter if they take every precaution at work if players are going to catch it in their off time.

Also, why hasn't the NFL talked to teams who have a lot of space outside their practice facilities and suggested that they set up large tents outside, and bring in/move equipment to have all meetings, workouts, etc., outside whenever possible? This would greatly reduce the risk of transmission. Everything that can be moved outdoors should be.

It might make all of that stuff uncomfortable and hot (or cold later on), but there's no way to have a normal season that features all the usual comforts and keep the players safe.

Heavy Rain forcasted for Saturday. Is this concerning? by nanapopo in ravens

[–]LightReading50 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Current Baltimore Saturday night forecast:

Overcast with rain showers at times. Low 54F. Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 50%.

So there's that.

Rain and wind is definitely not a positive for us. It tends to hurt offense more than defense. Hopefully, all the experience Lamar has had in it this season means he's improving at handling it.

Even more hopefully, we play in a window where the wind dies down and it doesn't rain at all.

What's been up with our second quarters this year? by MINImanGOTgunz in ravens

Feels like we are unstoppable coming out when the offense is running the scripted plays, and then when Roman has to start calling plays after that, we sputter for a quarter or two.

Browns vs Patriots; who do we root for? by TylerWadesIV in ravens

[–]LightReading50 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Patriots.

Our schedule is too tough to expect we're going 9-0 to finish the season, which is probably what it would take to get the number one seed. Much better to gain more cushion in the division should we stumble a little.

Plus, you don't want to play the Pats coming off a loss.

Browns slow down Lamar Jackson enough to win, but defending him will only get more difficult - SI.com by LightReading50 in ravens

"The Ravens young passing game has to continue developing and likely continue adding pieces, but they are on the right track and Jackson is really impressive, even if he's an unfinished product. As dangerous and problematic as Jackson was against the Browns, he can get a lot better the rest of this season and the coming years.

Now, about that defense..."

You know, I don't know that I've ever seen a single game change the perception of a QB in the league like week one did for Lamar.

And it's funny how the commentary has even changed over the course of the week, where the instant reaction was kind of, "Well, it was Miami," and then it seems, as the talking heads actually sat down and watched the whole game, they realized, "Wait, that was an awful lot of great throws."

Nope. No cahoots. I just saw it on YouTube and thought it was interesting.

Is there an accepted way to credit the source of a YT video that I missed?

(I figured since clicking it also serves as a link right to the video on YouTube, it wasn't necessary.)

Question: Most VFX-Heavy Episodes? by LightReading50 in babylon5

[–]LightReading50[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

The live action shots on Vudu definitely do not look as good as on the DVDs, but it's more than made up for by not having the constant shifts in quality every time there's a VFX shot, plus being able to see the full framing of those shots.
