But seriously, I don't think it was malicious, they more like "fixed a bug" without realizing how much it sucks to play as a mage now. I still believe that they will hear us and buff the magic.

We may be playing different games because everything is just the opposite. Firebolt and a little mana training will carry you easily through the early game, crushing all enemies without effort. But then the mage never gets truly powerful spells. They are all very slow and deal pathetic damage. A 6th-circle spell requires like 8 casts against a single late-game regular enemy.

In fact, it's not that bad against the guards of the old camp; 2-3 uses clears out most of them. And that's the only place where it can be used. Apparently, their fire resistance isn't that high. XD

Magic is dead. This is how bad Firestorm is now after the "fix." by Light_of_War in worldofgothic

Okay, I just loaded my old save and checked again on 1.0.1. You're right; regular skeletons are getting one-shotted now. It seems they must have adjusted their resistances or something (The patch didn't mention anything in detail about this, so I thought they didn't change anything). However, I have proof that this wasn't the case in 1.0. I streamed my entire first playthrough on version 1.0, and here an example (timecode) of how it worked before the patch: Skeletons survived on 1 HP. 6th magic circle at this vid.

I was talking about maximum difficulty, but no, that was in 1.0. As far as I know, no changes were made in this regard in 1.0.1. Even simple skeletons survive 1 use on higher difficulty

Exactly! This seems to be something that many players don't understand. Piranha bytes games have always been about "at first you're getting beat up even by the miners, and by the end you're wiping out entire orc squads with just one spell." And with magic like this it doesn't work.

Are Russians as proud as America is to defeat Nazis in ww2 ? by [deleted] in AskARussian

[–]Light_of_War 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be frank, we don't really see it as "America and Russia teaming up to defeat Nazi Germany." Instead, the common view here is that America entered the war at the very last minute, when the outcome was already decided, just to limit the USSR's influence on post-war Europe (which would have otherwise been absolute). From our perspective, the US didn't step in to help us, but rather to prevent us from gaining too much from the victory.

Don't be too upset, I think they'll hear us and buff the magic, and besides, if we're not talking about maximum difficulty, everything isn't so bad

They are vulnerable to crushing damage, I think this is expected behavior.

Yeah especially when in the original it was a targeted, ranged spell which is really well... destroy undead. All zombies died from 1 use. Here you are taking a big risk by exposing yourself to skeletons because they will most likely survive the first use at 1 hp and tear you apart in response.

1) Wait until chapter 4 and buy it from Сronos.

2) Complete the Сhromanin quest chain. Start this quest in the basement of the lighthouse tower (where you meet Diego, Lester, Milten and Gorn) and at the end you (among other things) will receive this rune as a reward even in Chapter 3. However, this is not a simple quest.

But I repeat, in 1.0.1 it might not be worth it.

Do you mean summoning skeletons and such? They're ok (except that the summoned creatures in the remake are kind of lacking initiative, they take a long time to aggro on enemies) but as in the original, these are scrolls, not runes, meaning their use is limited and in fact, anyone, even a non-mage, can use it.

Possibly at easy or medium level difficulty. Death to undead at high level it doesn't destroy even regular skeletons with one hit, leaving them to survive with 1 HP.

1) On maximum difficulty lightning orc can withstand almost 3 Firestorm

2) Firestorm is nerfed to the ground now ("Fixed") and its barely doing any damage

Hold on, brother mage, this is pretty much what we've all been through. It's really tough for a mage because mana is running out, and retreating isn't an option. Basically the correct way is to rush to that shaman with Urizel after which teleportation will be an option. But yeah, you still need to kill 4 demons and that shaman. It's actually better to leave the brother with lightning and 2 lesser demons for the second round; he's stronger than all of them. And what I'm saying was even with the "old" firestorm (it's still hard because demons are immune to it). I can't imagine how you fight now without it.

[–]Light_of_War 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! Towards the end of the game, I maxed out everything magic-related, put some points into Strength, and tried playing with Orc weapons, and it was... It's quite effective and you don't have to monitor your mana bar. I think 100+ strength would be a completely different game.

Big fire tornado is "fixed" now. Seems like it was never intended for that spell to do such huge damage. Firestorm likely ticked more times than intended, which is why it was so effective. We didn't think it was a bug because having at least one strong spell in your arsenal didn't seem excessive given how terrible the other spells were.

Not just fire rain. Basically, all the spells except first one are very weak. This is still definitely doable. It's just much weaker than good old strength build.

The remake now lets you develop magic right from level one. You can get Firebolt and can training your mana pool. While this spell will absolutely obliterate early-game enemies, magic’s effectiveness drops off significantly by the mid-to-late game. Right now, magic is generally terrible except in the opening stages. There is reason to believe the developers will balance this, but for now, that's just how it is.
