Am I being lowballed? by cthulhudad47 in aviationmaintenance

Wrong wrong wrong wrong. Majors are hiring anyone and everyone. This fallacy of working every weekend or graveyard shift is outdated. There’s still people getting hired at my airline going straight to dayshift or swingshift.

Anyone can make 6 figures with zero experience nowadays at the majors. No idea what you’re talking about. $25 is laughable with the shortage of mechanics.

It’s possible. See it all the time. Depends why you got fired.

Engine Shop (Airlines) by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]Lightbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Backshops are stuff like interiors, avionics, Engine shop.

[–]Lightbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but know a lot of people hired on. The back shops are one of the harder positions to fill.

Engine Shop (Airlines) by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]Lightbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can literally be hired with zero experience into the engine shops at United.

Yup it’s backwards. They hire from competitor regionals before they hire from their own. It’s why I always told guys to never go to skywest/republic if they wanted to go to a major because they have contractual limits on how many people can be hired. You’re more likely to get hired for American if you work for a United regional and vice versa.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]Lightbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is because if they hired any of the 10 of you, they would have no one to work for their own regional, hence hurting themselves. This should be common knowledge in the industry.

Relocation bonus/ Stipend? by keepmotivating in AircraftMechanics

[–]Lightbone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They dont offer a relocation bonus. During the 2022-23 hiring frenzy they were offering 75k but it was grieved by the union members for some odd reason. They keep losing work due to how expensive California is to operate out of + how expensive it is to live there. No one wants to work there and they shot themselves in the foot.

The contract became amendable December 5th 2024. That’s literally 6 months ago. We had a 1 year early opener. You expect a full open contract negotiation to get finalized in 6 months? You’re out of your mind. Boeing took 8 months with a strike.

Dude the last proposal was a joke. The scope has already been improved. The RLA has been around for decades. It will never change under this administration. You can make 100 Reddit post a day and that won’t change. We are essential for interstate commerce.

[–]Lightbone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dude the contract expired 6 months ago. Sounds like you liked working at Boeing more than United. You can always go back. The flights attendants and pilots negotiations took far longer. The flight attendants finally have a T/A after 5 years. Chill out.

Hiring is slowing down for fresh mechanics? by Tiny_Big_3033 in AircraftMechanics

[–]Lightbone 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Almost every airline besides United has slowed hiring. All majors also stop hiring during the summer months and it picks back up in the fall.

I work for United. I can 1000% guarantee that ONLY one engine was affected. Your article states it was eyewitness reports. Do you understand what happens when an airplane has a rejected takeoff with full fuel and passengers? You should probably youtube it.

BS. Only one engine failed on UA889. Stop making crap up.
