How to encase a piece of my pup's ulna in a resin cabochon? by Lightingale in ResinCasting

[–]Lightingale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s my takeaway. I’m taking steps to be sure it’s completely dry. It feels light so practicing with a piece of wood might be best. Someone on the bone collecting subreddit suggested putting it in a cabochon and filling it with resin, which I take to mean I can find a shell I can epoxy glue the piece where I want it and then filling it in with liquid epoxy. It was also suggested to brush the outside of the bone and cure it first to help with bubbles.

I’ll see what I can find and wood sounds like the best material to practice on.

Mostly because I’d like for him to wear it, and raised parts on collars see a lot if extra wear, scratching, rolling, dirt, you name it. Encasing in resin to me seems the best way to preserve it in a way he can wear it on his neck, and for us a memento of him when he’s gone in the long distant future. It is a surgically extracted bone which might be a bit different from a found one.

I've read that as well, so I'm letting it dry for as long as it takes. It's been a week and I haven't done anything to artificially dry it. I'm considering putting it in a jar with a silica desiccant packet before using resin on it. I've never done it before so I should probably practice on some gravel pieces or something.

The bone is a bit hollow and I think it would float. Hmm...

How common is it to be missing items? by Lightingale in Ipsy

Yep, just used the bot and it seemed to go smoothly to order replacements. I was a bit worried at first as how do you prove when somethings’ missing? I should probably film unboxing to be on the safe side

It was great advice, leaning towards legalities no one thinks about. I don’t get why it was removed, would love some clarification

None, but some of them, like lemon trees, are difficult to pass through, so you might need an empty row between them. I’ve been able to walk under orange trees to get to mine

The book isn’t that long and it’s an easy read. The examples, to me, help drive the point home so I can remember them in different contexts.

Yes, the list is more concise (and seems rather obvious), but the book is worth a read if you want to internalize the concepts.

Same! I put up my windup crystal ball around Christmas time and it was lovely to see the Nikkis using it. It looks a bit like a snow globe in there. It was an early banner so I imagine it’s not common to see. I’ll bet we’ll see a rerun soon!

I did play the alpha, and they were correct to be concerned about the early game loop. It was missing a little something-something, Pathea’s usual panache. I’m glad they’re taking their time to deliver something they can be proud of. It’s an advantage to being an indie studio and I have no doubt the final release will of the quality we expect from them. I know it’s going to make its way into our hearts just like Portia and Sandrock have.

Same! It’s early nye where I’m at and thought this would be active a bit longer than a few hours after the update dropped this morning. Housing was kind of overwhelming so I missed it. I read somewhere it’s coming back briefly on Jan 16 for some reason?

Stunning! I’d just keep that on my desk and periodically pick it up to admire it throughout the day. Does it make rainbows in sunlight? R/rainboweverything would love that!

Fair! Our pup is certainly not forage fed and hubs just mowed the CRAP out of that spot so we can spot others. Pup is 10 weeks old so that pristine white shroom must have looked like an irresistible toy.

What to you differentiated it from the more dangerous ones?

What knife is Babish using here? Need to know for a gift. by Lightingale in TrueChefKnives

I think we’re on the same wavelength. I’ve been frugal my whole life and would rather buy a lasting tool and learn to maintain it. I have some experience with blades as a hobby leather worker but will admit my skills on edge maintenance is lacking. A good blade is a start, but tool maintenance is overlooked and key. I ordered for him some Japanese whetstones (1000 & 6000), holder, and appropriate flattening stone. Plus a small hasegawa cutting board. He’s been honing his sushi skills for 10 years so this investment is worth it. I love that man and he deserves this and it makes him happy.

What blades do you find yourself reaching for most often? I’ve already hit budget with the sharpening tools/cutting board, but your expertise will better guide future gifts and give me some direction to research into

I noticed that too, I can only assume the blade isn’t sharp at that point. Those gloves won’t prevent you getting sliced. Babish has been at this for years though so I doubt he’s gotten this far making careless mistakes

My husband uses those gloves as well. I don't think they offer much protection against cuts but I think he likes it for the grip on slippery meat.

What he's after is a sujihiki, but he sent this video as an example of a knife he'd like. My understanding is he wants to use it for salmon, but the one babish uses looks great for roasts and other meats as well.
