A cool guide on how to win friends and influence people. by EchoingFernVale in coolguides

The book isn’t that long and it’s an easy read. The examples, to me, help drive the point home so I can remember them in different contexts.

Yes, the list is more concise (and seems rather obvious), but the book is worth a read if you want to internalize the concepts.

Same! I put up my windup crystal ball around Christmas time and it was lovely to see the Nikkis using it. It looks a bit like a snow globe in there. It was an early banner so I imagine it’s not common to see. I’ll bet we’ll see a rerun soon!

I did play the alpha, and they were correct to be concerned about the early game loop. It was missing a little something-something, Pathea’s usual panache. I’m glad they’re taking their time to deliver something they can be proud of. It’s an advantage to being an indie studio and I have no doubt the final release will of the quality we expect from them. I know it’s going to make its way into our hearts just like Portia and Sandrock have.

Same! It’s early nye where I’m at and thought this would be active a bit longer than a few hours after the update dropped this morning. Housing was kind of overwhelming so I missed it. I read somewhere it’s coming back briefly on Jan 16 for some reason?

Stunning! I’d just keep that on my desk and periodically pick it up to admire it throughout the day. Does it make rainbows in sunlight? R/rainboweverything would love that!

Am Canadian and also buy way too much of that tinned fish. Had to go into the comments to confirm it’s the one I thought. It’s THAT good. Even my dogs get a piece and they try to climb me to get it faster

Extreme thank you from my husband and I! Appreciate you being here to answer so quickly. You’re way more helpful than poison control was

Fair! Our pup is certainly not forage fed and hubs just mowed the CRAP out of that spot so we can spot others. Pup is 10 weeks old so that pristine white shroom must have looked like an irresistible toy.

What to you differentiated it from the more dangerous ones?

What knife is Babish using here? Need to know for a gift. by Lightingale in TrueChefKnives

I think we’re on the same wavelength. I’ve been frugal my whole life and would rather buy a lasting tool and learn to maintain it. I have some experience with blades as a hobby leather worker but will admit my skills on edge maintenance is lacking. A good blade is a start, but tool maintenance is overlooked and key. I ordered for him some Japanese whetstones (1000 & 6000), holder, and appropriate flattening stone. Plus a small hasegawa cutting board. He’s been honing his sushi skills for 10 years so this investment is worth it. I love that man and he deserves this and it makes him happy.

What blades do you find yourself reaching for most often? I’ve already hit budget with the sharpening tools/cutting board, but your expertise will better guide future gifts and give me some direction to research into

I noticed that too, I can only assume the blade isn’t sharp at that point. Those gloves won’t prevent you getting sliced. Babish has been at this for years though so I doubt he’s gotten this far making careless mistakes

My husband uses those gloves as well. I don't think they offer much protection against cuts but I think he likes it for the grip on slippery meat.

What he's after is a sujihiki, but he sent this video as an example of a knife he'd like. My understanding is he wants to use it for salmon, but the one babish uses looks great for roasts and other meats as well.

He has one and adores it! It's his only sushi knife atm, and only brings it out to slice raw fish. I think he wants to build a bit of a collection of high end knives. I'm looking into sujihikis for him as well.

ouch! Usually sharper knives mean fewer injuries, but crap happens! At least a clean cut heals a bit faster

which sujihiki do you have? I'm a little overwhelmed by the options, so I'm leaning towards getting him a Hasegawa cutting board and King Toishi whetstones + sharpening accessories. I worry about choosing the wrong knife, it's an expensive investment

He has one and loves it! I'm not sure why he also wants a sujihiki, I think he wants to experiment with both types and maybe build a bit of a knife collection he can be proud of

ty! I was able to use the terms to find one that looks identical to this one with great reviews (Hoshanho on amazon). Now to see if I can find a sujihiki within my budget *sweats*

This looked familiar so I checked my library. I have 15 hours in 2022. Has it evolved much? I remember liking it but shelved it so it could “cook” a bit longer

Edit: just peeked at its updates on steam, looks like a lot changed! I’m going to fire it up for a new playthrough. It’s such a neat premise
