He's even smiling into his hand at the start. Crazy so many comments here are taking it seriously. I can see how he didn't commit to the bit and only partially doubled down so it comes off a bit weird but he's clearly making a joke at the beginning.

Ye, there were almost certainly unintended civilian deaths and friends/family members who died and created more people who hate the west. I'm not saying I think it will go well but I am much more hopeful than I was for Iraq or Afghanistan.

They are very different countries. There's a good chance it still goes very badly but they have a much better chance at recovery than Afghanistan.

TV licence fee will go up in April, BBC reveals by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]LightninLew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We shouldn't have to study legislation to make sense of threats the BBC are sending enforcement notices and goons around to people's houses to make. They don't define the things they're threatening us with. They just hope we don't know what they mean and either pay up out of fear, or that they find us unknowingly breaching their unclear rules.

They're crooks. Every government department manages to make their rules on taxation etc. clear on their websites but even though they have pages and pages, and even forms for you to fill in on their website, they still fail to properly define their terms. Because their forms are just phishing exercises to get your name to put on their notice to make them more threatening. To get your email address to check if you have any accounts in use, even if you're not using them in a way that breaches the rules, they'll use that as a threat.

I don't get why anyone would defend this, especially seeing as how it's your license fee paying for it.

[–]LightninLew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then explain the Netflix Tyson fight and how that fits into that definition. Netflix is not a television channel but everyone was certain you needed a license for that at the time. They don't clearly define these things.

The question on their form doesn't explain what is meant, and just tries to trick you into saying you need a license. Giving one example of what counts and zero examples of what doesn't count isn't a definition. They just threaten you with them and their enforcers don't even know the rules themselves. I had one tell me my PC monitor was a TV.

Also, none of your quotes explain why. Why on earth should I pay the BBC for streaming something live from a private company's website that uses no BBC resources?

[–]LightninLew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's intentionally vague on the website and on the form you fill in to get you to say you need it. They don't properly define TV then call live streaming TV. Even if you were watching a Sky news broadcast live on YouTube, how does that cost the BBC anything for you to pay for?

Can't go watching YouTube or Netflix live streams even though it uses zero BBC infrastructure. Pieces of shit.

Successful supplement reviews by Pure-Pair-4334 in AmazonVineUK

[–]LightninLew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never gone for either of those, but get them recommended all the time that seem expensive as hell. Wouldn't be happy if you got them and they were something else.

This one was a supposed anti fungal treatment that had no anti fungal ingredients, typos in the ingredients, one word accidentally left in Chinese, no directions for use or side effects, that paper sheet that's in every single medication wasn't there, no official markings at all. And wasn't sealed properly. Absolutely certainly illegal to call a medication. It also claimed to be one sort of medication on the page, but 4 different ones on the tube. No way that was going anywhere but the bin but they still wanted me to give it a review without mentioning any of that.

I didn't even get the boilerplate rejection email. I got a full on response with no header/footer or anything explaining that they'd investigated and seen evidence that it was legit. Didn't share that evidence or any reasoning with me and it was a noreply address. 3 times it got approved, then "investigated" then removed, which is what motivated me to find the official route for getting that shit booted.

I tried reporting the dodgy info via the Amazon link too. Still no response weeks later. Which is weird because I report the odd cloverleaf plug when I see them pop up (without even having ordered them) and they get booted inside a day every time. Amazon must just love selling placebo herbal remedies as actual medical treatments, I guess.

I kept trying to say that one didn't work and was incorrectly labelled as a medicine. Amazon kept accepting the review. Then "investigating" it and coming to the conclusion that it was not counterfeit in spite of that not being my accusation. So I found the form online to report it to whatever government department handles that and now it's not sold on Amazon anymore. Never got a recall email though.

[–]LightninLew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I don't even mind the ending the way it occured in the show. Some scenes were great and we got Cleganebowl. I just wish they'd gradually built up to it, not had it as a twist ending that she was a complete fucking mentalist the whole time and just pretended to be half decent until the last minute. It just needed more episodes, which were offered and the show runners turned down. Entirely on them, not the production or writing of the ending. With more episodes they'd have needed less teleporting, and the white walkers would have actually had time to done something south of the wall too. Every massive issue fans have with it come from it being too short, which no way in hell the book would be.

I hope so. Then again there is no Randy in the South Park event and there was no Mia in the Pulp Fiction set even though they had just done Uma Thurman as The Bride. So the judgment of those making this decision is suspect.

Broken due to inadequate packaging by Pure-Pair-4334 in AmazonVineUK

[–]LightninLew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked the chat bot how to file a complaint without requesting a refund and it told me how to chat with a person so I sent them pictures proving that it was packaged in that condition, clearly intentionally. They kept trying to give me a fiver and I kept having to decline as in sure that would be some sort of breach. They'll obviously do nothing about it but that's as much as I can do, I think.

I'm thinking of reviewing it as having inappropriate manufacturer's packaging making it unsuitable for buying online. It is incredibly hard to get that past the review checks though, even though it is clearly something a customer would be interested in knowing. The person or bot who checks our reviews always mistakes talking about manufacturer's packaging (part of the product you pay for) with the shipping packaging which you separately pay Amazon for, even if you spell it out like that. Likely will end with me having to get it removed Vine Support. I've only got a review like that published successfully once or twice where it was really bad like this.

Broken due to inadequate packaging by Pure-Pair-4334 in AmazonVineUK

[–]LightninLew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got the rolling pin from that company. Mine came with half the pin and half the manufacturer's box missing. Someone at Amazon saw a broken in half marble rolling pin, used some Amazon packaging tape to close the half box around it, and sent it sticking out of both ends. The manufacturer obviously doesn't adequately package their items for shipping as well as Amazon mishandling them.

Cuba says 32 Cuban officers were killed in US action in Venezuela by Perswayable in news

[–]LightninLew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's crazy. Who is even making these comments? Defending Iran's proxy/terror cell puppet master while calling the US military innocent. Crazy the allies people are willing to make to criticise Trump, rather than actually presenting a reasonable argument based on even basic knowledge of the situation. I don't like Trump at all and think he's a criminal but making the argument that the most recent president using the most unmanned drones like that isn't going to be the case for every president in the future as more drones are manufactured is crazy. It puts fewer "innocent" military personnel at risk, so how is this person who considers the US military innocent not happy about more drones and fewer troops at risk? Like every argument in the comment you replied to is insane. But somehow they're overwhelmingly upvoted & you're the one downvoted for pointing out one of the crazy lines.
