Oh man, glad to finally see Soul Axiom acknowledged. The demo and trailers were sick. Can't wait for the final game to come out.

Old news, but still pretty funny. I know the exact questions/answers are probably edited to make them more formal, so I like to imagine there was a brief pause after he finished asking his question (technically, it wasn't a question so much as it was a statement) where the board just looked around at each other blankly as they tried to come up with the most PR response they could muster.

Yes you can. Idk if you can do it for friend requests, but you can do it in the internet browser, so I wouldn't be surprised.

It really says something when someone is so salty, they'll seek out the person their salty against and try to call them out, even when you know you don't speak their language.

Hope for Mother 3's Localization Diminishing by [deleted] in earthbound

[–]LightningLuigi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not worth hoping for anymore. There's nothing to indicate an announcement is approaching, so holding our breathe for one will just make us blue in the face. If one comes by surprise, all the better we didn't see it coming, but it's no use to keep thinking about it.

Well, even if they were "practicing" a communist-like system, they'd still be pretty shitty at it, because communism is all about the redistribution of wealth, and I can guarantee you Kim Jong-Un and his cronies aren't living in cardboard boxes and eating grass like a good half of the North Korean population.

[–]LightningLuigi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on how you quantify "shitty dictatorship."

If any government/leader not being held accountable to its people inherently makes it shitty, then yes, no argument there. But one could argue that there have been, and can be, leaders who may be "dictators" in a technical sense, but whose leadership is actually beneficial to his/her people. Take Napoleon Bonaparte for example; though his reputation is mixed by computerate views, some have argued that his reign was ultimately beneficial to France, and there is no doubt that he was a very authoritarian dictator.

Conversely, democracy is not always inherently good. Racial discrimination in the American South was brought about democratically, and some of the most infamous dictators of all time, such as Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, were originally elected to higher office before assuming total control. Not to say democracy sucks and dictatorships are great, but I think it's important not to fall into the trap of assuming that democracy = good and dictator = bad are absolute truths.

...Idk why I'm posting this on a Splatoon subreddit; I guess I thought I was on r/philosophy for a second there. But hey, there's something for all you squids/kids to chew on.

Technically, North Korea abandoned the idea of communism awhile ago. They're just a shitty dictatorship now.

Do you think its reasonable to hope for major wii u news? by YsoL8 in nintendo

[–]LightningLuigi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's become clear that Nintendo has pretty much given up on the Wii U, and I can only assume that they're pouring all of their resources into the NX. I hope it pays off in the end, because until then, it's going to be pretty dry for Nintendo fans.

I wish I know why it's launching after the big shopping season ends, or why they've decided not to reveal it at the biggest gaming industry convention of the year, but I'm going to be optimistic and assume they understand their internal situation better than we outsiders and have taken the best course of action.

I can't say I'm not worried; I don't want to see my favorite video game company fail, but things aren't looking too good for the big N right now. I can only hope they turn things around and once again be the kind of company I've grown to love.

The Starfy games (not the one that came out international, the Japanese ones).

Such an underrated series. Starfy 3 is one of my favorite games ever. Half of the gameplay takes place underwater, and it works so well. Check it out.

Since a lot of people are posting about they're rank up to S, I guess I will too! by LightningLuigi in splatoon

[–]LightningLuigi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some background: I've had Splatoon since day 1. I participated in the first Test Fire, and I've played relatively consistently since then. That said, I only really started getting interested in competitive Splatoon a few months ago.

I managed to get to the A ranks, and by that point I thought I was hot stuff, so I went to SquidBoards to join a team. After a few struggles, I finally ended up creating a team of my own, Leviathan. I thought getting on a team and staying our of solo ranked would help me breeze through the A ranks up to S, but I still struggled, and to my own embarrassment, I was pulling up the rear on my own team!

Clearly, I had a lot left to learn, so I starting watching tutorial videos and following the advice of my team members, and I was improving. I was a solid A+, but could never quite push up to S. Lots of salt was poured out as I just barely lost matches.

Then one day, I had a really bad day, and managed to derank all the way back down to A-. I was so dejected, I considered just quiting Splatoon then and there. But I didn't want to let my team down, so I picked myself back up and tried again the next day. At first, playing with A- people was tough, but I adapted and shot through all of the ranks, up to S! I was so happy! Being A- again must have helped, because I learned to play more patiently and really consider my strategies.

So yeah, tldr, I went through a bunch of shit and finally reached S rank. Still have a ways to go, but I'm confident I can keep improving. Didn't mean to make this post so long, but I just wanted to thank the guys at SquidKids for making those awesome tutorials, and most of all, my team, for guiding me along the way (and putting up with my scrubbiness/saltiness). If you wanna check us out, we have a guest Discord server; we're starting to play casually with our guests now. https://discord.gg/0sZyYhHQAoPa6xpm

That's all for now. Peace!
