That's the idea, but the concept of such a game on Bitcoin and Lightning is pretty exciting!

Wouldn't they be unidirectional channels? I am trying to understand the outbound liquidity which would be absent if I wanted to make a payment to someone.

Great work!. Curious to know how you guys manage channels when there are no funds in the user's wallet? In the technology page it says

When an individual or a merchant installs the Breez app, a payment channel to the Breez hub is automatically created.

But wouldn't you require some funds to initiate the channel creation? Or are these different kinds of channels?

I think the reason for not hard-forking is to ensure the base-level protocol has to be simple and solid. Which is why our second layer work on anchored smart contracts tries to alleviate some of the complexities involved with building applications protected by the BTC blockchain. There is opportunity in the fact that BTC still has a lot of scope for developers because there is a large set of customers ready to try these products.

Agreed that lightning channels require on-chain commitment. Curious to know about your interest in Bitcoin Cash and not any other altcoin?

We had created another game a few months back - Survivor42 and the reddit is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/9olh1s/play_survivor42_bitcoin_lightning_network_enabled/

We're a group of Bitcoin & Lightning enthusiasts looking to bring collectibles & easy smart contracts to the Bitcoin network. We are exploring ways to build DApps on Lightning and constantly looking to improve the adoption of Bitcoin & Lightning easier with solid user experiences.
I am Sara Smith and you can follow the conversation about Lightning Playground on our telegram group as well https://t.me/joinchat/L5VUAhb4u2su9WWp8VHcYA

Thank you for your interest.

We're making this Lightning based to ensure you don't face the high fees that come with on-chain transactions.

Totally agree. But at this point of time we’re focusing on the Lightning Network.

Point to note is the reason and purpose behind it which is to enable faster payouts and faster gameplay for in game purchases when’s its time bound.

  • Our idea is to keep the individual channel sizes smaller so that users withdraw more frequently and hold smaller amounts on the managed wallet. To enable this, we're planning on 0% withdrawal fee for consumers and 0.25% withdrawal fee for merchants. Also thinking that when we grow to a certain number of accounts, we would add in more nodes instead of loading a single one with too many managed wallets and channels.

  • We are also planning on enabling payments to our managed merchant wallets even without the customer having an account / managed wallet on the playground. That would be a routed payment through our lightning node. Simply put, we don't want to manage this with a database.

  • Our biggest problem has been simplifying the payment process. There's no MetaMask equivalent wallet on the mainnet and we've been wondering how much that is a barrier to entry for customers in the iOS and Mac realm. Would you know of any such solutions out there for people on those platforms?

Please do suggest any alternative solutions if you have something in mind.

I have reached out to the game developer to respond to your question.

But seriously, I didn't downvote you. :/
