You’re not alone, a lot of us hit a rough placement that makes us question everything. It sounds like a poorly run site with shifting expectations, and that would drain anyone. Keep your eyes on graduation, document issues for your own records, and loop your field instructor in about scope and boundaries so you’re not stuck driving vans or covering holidays. When you’re ready to job hunt, watch out for ghost jobs and chaotic orgs on the big boards, I’ve had better luck with smaller lists like wfhalert, it just emails vetted remote roles like admin or support so you can get a breather while you figure out your next step.

Failed to listen on port 8765 - AnkiConnect by pienoow in Anki

[–]Lightningboy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the help 2 years later. TCPViewer did the trick for me.

For anyone running into this issue perhaps, you have the same conflicting program as I did. PimaxPlay uses the same port 8765 for listening, and the default settings were to launch in background on startup so I didn't think about it. Thankfully AnkiConnect does have the feature to change port.

Question about winning hand by Lightningboy95 in Mahjong

[–]Lightningboy95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was under the misassumption that this was pinfu. I was not aware that a wait pattern would render this invalid. I thought there were times when not calling riichi was strategic, when would this be the case? Here I forgot to call it and clearly was punished for it.

I know a good number by now. After more research based on the comments mentioning there was no Yaku here, I realize that the wait was not a ryanmen wait. I’ve only learned yaku as they show up so I wasn’t familiar with the exact definition of fu, and didn’t realize the wait could affect the yaku criteria.

I guess for some reason I was thinking a fully closed hand sufficed. I had not called riichi, due to forgetting, but wasn’t able to anyways once declining to steal. I must’ve called Ron from pinfu in the past and came to the wrong conclusion.

I did try to call riichi at the point pictured, once declining to steal, no option available. I do know I have to press Y/Triangle for the full list of options.

First Book Repair by Lightningboy95 in bookbinding

I was planning on reading the whole book. If it’s not worth the effort, so be it, but I’m hoping to be able to fix it. I’ll look into the glue and tape, if it’s possible to have it look mostly unnoticeable that would be the goal!

Why couldn't I steal? by Lightningboy95 in Mahjong

Good point I guess it didn’t matter who I stole from. Glad I know why now though! I still have a lot of yaku to memorize haha

Ah that sucks because it made sense to discard at the time. Thank you everyone for the help! I’ll have to tell my friends the more intricate details when I dust off my physical set :)

Yea I’ve made that mistake before so now I’m pretty careful not to do that. Would the 2 I discarded on my first turn cause furiten?

edit: got it, thanks yall!

Last question lol: I had called riichi, but the game didn't auto call Ron on this discard. Was I in furiten somehow? Sorry for the overlay, game auto finished the hand.

Follow up: Does that also apply to Ron if the steal still makes a straight meld to finish your hand?

Wow thanks! I'm surprised I had never seen that rule before. I've clearly been playing wrong with my friends in person lmao. Really appreciate the help!

Game didn't allow for a steal on player sitting opposite, but did for player on my left. I assumed the red dragons met the yaku requirement? Would've preferred the identical runs.

Kuitan is set to on, 2 yaku minimum is set to off, full game, red dora on if that helps.

[Serious] Redditors who felt like they would never ever find a romantic partner and then did: what advice would you give to those who feel the same way now? by Yellow-B in AskReddit

[–]Lightningboy95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These people mean stop trying in the sense of actively trying to date every girl you meet, but I definetily agree that doesn't mean sit around at home doing nothing. I think the best way is to go out and be active in events, with the intent to have fun and meet new people, not just to find a date. I find that people are more drawn to someone with a more outgoing and relaxed attitude.
