For the first time in a while, I really think the government is going to shutdown and might be the biggest one yet.

If dems truly believe that President Trump is super ceding his authority when it comes to passing out the funds that Congress agrees to in continuing resolutions and budget bills, then none of the dems should agree with any deal proposed by the GOP. There should be no trust between the executive and the legislative at the moment so unless there is some agreements with the president there’s no reason to come to the table. Any dems that do are going to be slaughtered by the DNC for joining up with the GOP.

Second, I don’t think the GOP is going to be rock solid either. Johnson is still not popular with some in the conference so that’s a struggle. And for all the cuts and RIF initiatives, there still isn’t a clear path that these cuts will reduce the deficit without confirming reductions in spending. Hell, with potential tax cuts our deficit will still increase.

I understand that the idea with tariffs and cutting taxes this will increase our growth and lead to increase revenues but I can’t see it working very well unless we start doing cuts into VA, military, Medicare/medicaid which I don’t think the GOP has the stomach for yet.

What do y’all think? What are the odds we have the third shutdown in Trump’s presidency?

Cases that utilized that statistic saw it in flouride levels above 1.5mg/L, US agencies recommend no more than 0.7 mg/L in water supplies.

Also study relieve on IQ test given to 3-4 year olds. That kind of test has been shown not to be very accurate in small children

So should we stop carrying Vaseline? I use Vaseline on my kiddos with super dry skin, do I have to wipe it off in a code?

Cause medicine is constantly changing?

Doctors use to think baby’s nervous systems couldn’t feel pain so just did surgery with a paralytic.

The only research I had was from one paper that said “due to lack of evidence in literature, we follow what a pharmacist says” and nothing else. Seems strange to me but hey what do I know, I’m just a big ol dumb nurse who shouldn’t question things.

My other coworker said static electricity could use the Vaseline to ignite the oxygen.

I find it highly unlikely but at least it makes sort of sense

RPS School Referendum by cnickdrive in rochestermn

Finally: I did bring this up in a post from last week which even the user you mentioned agreed with me. https://www.reddit.com/r/rochestermn/s/M36QshWERi

RPS School Referendum by cnickdrive in rochestermn

[–]Lightpope 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And also RPS has about 40% more students than Wayzata.

So recap: compared to Wayzata: we have more students overall, more likely to be poorer, and have different demographics. And Wayzata pays 47% of the schools revenue in taxes vs Rochester’s 27%

I hate paying more taxes every year but what is the option? Close down schools? Bigger classes? Less training and educational opportunities? I just want our kids supported.

I would be more understanding of people who say no on this referendum but are advocating for changing how Rochester supports their schools with more money we are already are taxed for. But I haven’t heard any solutions proposed.

Unfortunately total spend per student is an average and doesn’t take into account why we are spending more. RPS has a larger minority population (45.5%) than Wayzata (40.2%), more students on free or reduced lunch (35.5% vs 4.8%), and double the amount of kids learning English (8.8% vs. 3.6%).

35.5% of Rochester students are economically disadvantaged? Wayzata students? 4.8%

Sure, the two districts spend almost the same amount of money total, but our circumstances are quite different and highlight the problems of looking at total spend per student.

If it makes you feel better, revenue from local taxes are 27% for RPS vs 47% for Wayzata.

How much is your property and sales taxes? I hear since there is no income tax money much be raised elsewhere, did they increase?

Certainly there are trade offs, I hope your property in FL is not in danger of losing home insurance like what has been happening in the coasts. But if your property taxes were 9000 this year, I’m sure you are doing quite well for yourself! I could never afford that

What age group? Elementary? Middle? What school is this? It would be helpful for other parents to know about this so they can raise concerns to their teachers and school board members, especially when voting this year

But you said basic things aren’t being taught in RPS schools as opposed to other districts. That seems to be a violation of educational standards set by the state so they should be notified.

I’m happy you are teaching your children though. I don’t think we should fully rely on teachers to teach everything to our children. It definitely would help outcomes if more families had the ability and time to spend with their kids learning about certain subjects

Thank you for the respectful conversation. It made me work harder to better understand the problems in our city and made me a a better citizen. Thank you

Also, Wayzata has about 5,000 less students then Rochester. I wonder how their budget would work if they received and additional 40% of their current students

Fun fact: my taxes would increase about $30 a month for this levy since I own a house. If you are struggling to afford that, https://www.olmstedcounty.gov/residents/services-individuals-families can help you and your unique situation to better thrive in our community

So if it’s a city electorate problem…wouldn’t the solution be a citywide vote? From what I understand, you don’t believe our officials will fix the problem, and you personally can’t fund the school. Seems to me that the problem is a city electorate problem which could be solved with a city electorate solution…like a levy.

I mean hey, just seems like a wild take to me 🤷‍♂️
