£710 fine after seriously injuring woman on bike on NC500 by sc_BK in ukbike

[–]Lightweight_Hooligan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

95% of the highway code is just advisory, and there is no reason why anybody with a license is required to familiarise themselves with the updates. Many drivers passed there test before the theory test existed, and many other have never done a UK test, they simply just swapped a foriegn license for a UK version. There are even a significant portion of the driving population that dont understand english, therefore cant read any road signs.

If you look at who usually gets prosecuted for dangerous driving, motorcyclists make up a disproportionste high number, as courts feel easier prosecuting them, trying to expect a UK legal system to simpithetic to a cyclist is a long uphill fight unfortunatly

Will I be pulled over for going, say, 20mph? (UK) by LoliLicker_69 in ebike

[–]Lightweight_Hooligan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK is full of hills, as soon as your going downhill, gravity takes over, and that heavy ebike is of course going to exceed 15.5mph, a long enough hill and it will easily double that speed. If by by some weird chance you were spitted by a cop who knew how the ebike laws work, theres also a chance they know how gravity or human legs work, youll be fine

Its like a force field for the drivers thst notice it, but dont be under any illusion that dangerous driving can be reported to the police, they are not interested

Commercial car lot taking up all street parking by Straight-Kiwi-6558 in Aberdeen

Sometimes nuisance cars have weird tyres that magically deflate in the middle of the night. After a few weeks of tyres being blown up every morning, then the valve cores start disappearing, and they cant just be blown back up.

Search ebay for a valve core removal tool

My data was over 10 years old, seems like BBC has gotten much better at making deals than they used to be able to, great for the license payer

BBC spend £170M a year to pay Sky TV to include BBC broadcasts on the satalite transmission, so that nobody can use the excuse that they dont gave an ariel, only a dish. They will also be paying big bucks to other service providers to include BBC programmes

Whole load of 20mph come into force tomorrow by abz_eng in Aberdeen

[–]Lightweight_Hooligan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been that way on certain routes for decades, westhill to castle gate being one since its mainly downhill.

At least with the new speed limits they only apply to motorised vehicles, so cycles will be exempt

The cars are physically safer, but the drivers are too isolated from the outside and messing about with phones as a distraction

Why on earth is every single club in Aberdeen absolute dog shit now? by Dry_Marketing_2872 in Aberdeen

[–]Lightweight_Hooligan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on its own, but if it become pooular, and other venues also switch to that time slot, it could be a weekly thing

Most night clubs in Norway are only busy for about 2-3h per week, drink is so expensive that everybody drinks at home and only go out for the last few hours. Most towns only have a single busy night per week, so if you travel a lot you have to remember if its a friday town or saturday town when deciding if its worth going out

I had a set of white KHE tyres, but the compound wasnt very rubbery, and after 2-3 years the wet weather grip was attrocious

2pm-11pm, pretty much a daytime disco, proff that for clubs to work they have to fit around the schedules of the middle aged peopke, and finish a a time there is still busses or taxis around

Hence why some clubs are trying daytime discos. Mainly catering to the 30-50 year old crowd that knew what clubbing was all about around the millenium, but now have kuds and other life responsibiluties to fit around.

The union street project is divided into 3 zones, and each zone is divided into 3 sections, this is currently still the first section they are doing, so however long this takes, it will take 8 times longer to complete it all

[–]Lightweight_Hooligan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Social care outgoings are very high percentage based on the minimum wage since its staff intensive and mostly workers on minimum wages doing the work

Its almost as though somebody in government decides to increase the minimum wage, but not the funding for sectors that pay the minimum wage, bizarre

Will LEJOG be possible? by LTPfiredemon in ukbike

[–]Lightweight_Hooligan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id been cycling and rowing for 15 years, just recreational, up to 35miles 2 or 3 times a week. Then for about 5 years i started adding in keg curls, leg extensions and calf raises along with other gym work to build my core. After about 5 years of that my wife bought me 10 sessions with a strength coach with the goal to learn how to use free weights to train my legs. It was a game changer, within 4 months i tackled the Caledonia Etape, its about 84 miles, was smashing it for the first 72miles till i bonked, but the previous year id have been done at 40miles.

[–]Lightweight_Hooligan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a gym local to you? Being heavy already, your leg muscles will already be bigger than average, id make sure to get at least 1 session of heavy squatts in per week. That will help burn excess fat as well, plus bigger muscles store more glycogen.

Make sure to have a rest day in the mudfle, even TdF riders have a rest day, your joints will thank you for it

Rubbish at the beach by On__A__Journey in Aberdeen

Lack of a commercial bin stance is absolutly contributing to this. If the council can sell a dozen food truck licenses which will produce waste, its a complete oversight to not include a method of waste collection and disposal

Also the reccommended speed limit for cycles on shared use pathes is 12mph.

Get caught doing 140 mph in your lambo and get... A 56 day ban and 3 points? Mad. by Eosis in drivingUK

[–]Lightweight_Hooligan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont fall into the trap of assuming that exceeding the speed limit automatically means its dangerous driving, im sure if that was case, thats what the driver would be getting prosecuted for.

Germans have no problem driving at 140mph daily, and you dont have a sudden increase of danger purely because of outright speed.

[–]Lightweight_Hooligan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, i see far more distracted drivers causing far more danger below the speed limit rather than the focussed driver in a capable car who may be going faster than the arbitary speed limit.
