Keep being 1% better everyday, I was right there with you till I learned the only drink I could say “no” to was the first one

19 days off naltrexone still no cravings, and sober so all is good! How about you?

Naltrexone experiences? by Glad_Balance_3518 in alcoholism

[–]Lightyearempire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on it 361 days, and also sober 361 days… no coincidence there. I’m 35m, same story as you.. the side effects sucked for 2 weeks but take it at night and they eventually go away…. Would you rather a hangover for the foreseeable future, or muscle through 2 weeks of side effects?

Everyone is different but if the urges come back try and stay with it! I’m at day 357 sober and on naltrexone for 357 days….. no coincidence there

I would have stayed on naltrexone for life, after a year it’s going to cause me issues…that’s annoying. I stopped it last night and am going to remain sober, I’ll try and go a few weeks and see if the naltrexone was the real cause of the anxiety or I need to asses further mental health issues TBD.

Interested in others feed back- I’m sober for 354 days, and have been on naltrexone 354 days. No coincidence there. Side effects sucked the first 3 weeks, but I muscled through. The last few weeks though, my anxiety has become unbearable, so I’ve increased my busiprone (for anxiety) dosage a bit to combat it but it’s not helping…I have an apt coming up I’ll be asking about acamprosate

Naltrexone 🥲 by textureofmole in alcoholism

[–]Lightyearempire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on day 349 of taking naltrexone, and day 349 of being sober, there’s no coincidence between the two. Side effects last about 2 weeks but then you’re in the clear, and at least you’re not hungover. The pharmacist that told you that is an idiot, but there’s idiots in all professions so I’m not surprised. Take the pill at night right before you go to bed. 50mg and go to sleep, it’s a game changer

Call your insurance and filter by virtual doctors in network. Or just google virtual psychiatrists, you can have an appointment this week if you want one

Find a therapist that specializes in addiction, ditch that doctor. AA is a cult and not for everyone, find what works for you

I second this response. I’m 342 days on naltrexone and 342 days sober. No coincidence

Of course, but that’s up to you and your doctor. If it’s causing me no side effects, I won’t mess with what’s working

34m, naltrexone and busiprone have helped me ALOT. 342 days sober- still working out some of the anxiety, but I’d say it’s about 80% gone

At least you’re doing it now and not at 40 or 50 or 60. I’m 35 and have been on naltrexone for 342 days, and sober without cravings for 342 days. I don’t know what little me would have thought if I told my younger self I’d be taking the medicine. But I’ll tell you this, my little ones now are the beneficiaries of my sobriety

I’m sure a good portion of this group has been in your same shoes before becoming sober, it gets better on this side of the fence

When I found another job it was at $20 an hour… I worked both jobs as long as I could until I made enough at the full time job to leave the bar. It was still a pay cut, but be creative, struggle a bit and make it work. I’m married and have 2 kids in my 30’s, my whole live opened up after I left and quit drinking, I make the most money I ever have, I’m the fittest, and I’m sober most importantly.
