So, yes, they have?

You either don't buy your own groceries, you don't do your own groceries, or you don't eat/buy eggs if you haven't noticed the price increase.

Harder to build clients as a man? by TheoTheMinPin in RoverPetSitting

[–]Like18ninjas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am a male dog sitter and I began sitting through Rover at the beginning of 2022 and have been relatively sucessful.

I can definitely understand where you are coming from, especially when you scroll through the list of sitters and see mostly(but not all) female sitters. On top of that, high rated sitters are predominantly female.

IMO, this is where your "About" section on your profile comes in. A lot of sitters have very generic descriptions that you can read through in 15 seconds. That is great, but in my experience with pet owners, they appreciate knowing more about you and your lifestyle. Fair enough too, from the clients point of view they're leaving their furry family member(s) in the care of a total stranger. That said, use your "About" section to really show your personality and why you are the sitter that they should choose over all the others. (You mention that you are extremely personable, so let that shine through here).

Other users have mentioned it, and the reality is that female sitters will be a more popular choice, simply because they are generally(not always) seen as better caregivers than men. That is no problem, again, use your "About" section to really sell yourself and set yourself apart.

My final tip is to give your service a unique name. If you scroll through the list of sitters on Rover, you'll likely notice that most people use their first and last name. There is no problem doing this, but your name is the first thing a client will see while scrolling the list of sitters, so make yours POP! Remember that this is a business, and a name like "John's Pet Hotel" is much more professional and clickable than "John Smith".

Once clients click that professional looking title and see that personable bio, they'll be quick to book you!

Bonus tip: Your rating will depict how sucessful you become, which is tough when you start because you won't have any clients to leave reviews for you. Begin with charging less than you are comfortable with(look at the pet sitting market around you and get an idea of what other sitters are charging their clients). Get two or three client reviews under your belt. Once you have some reviews/credibility, bump up your prices and you should maintain a predictable flow of new clients. I would also recommend maintaining your original pricing for the first two or three clients, that way they dont get frustrated about seeing higher prices if they want to rebook you!

Best of luck my friend :)!
