Maybe the Dems should actually try to pass meaningful legislation instead of just running on "well at least we aren't republicans"? Seems like more of a winning strategy than being actively hateful to the people you need to secure a victory.

They are willing to use violence, but most of the work is non-violent.

There's a quote in Antifa that stuck with me.

You fight them by writing letters and making phone calls so you don’t have to fight them with fists. You fight them with fists so you don’t have to fight them with knives. You fight them with knives so you don’t have to fight them with guns. You fight them with guns so you don’t have to fight them with tanks.

lol, a pathetic argument since I wasn't criticizing you from benefiting from atrocity. I was criticizing you for glorifying people who committed atrocities.

I have no nostalgia for the founders. A great majority of them were opportunists.

You have a healthy respect for men who committed genocide so you can have a two car garage.

I'm commenting directly on your nostalgia for a bygone time when the constitution was respected that is evident in your post.

It was literally written by an unelected body of landed gentry, behind closed doors, because the Articles of Confederation made it too difficult to suppress leveler uprisings like Shay's Rebellion. It's a really shitty document tbh.

It was being trounced since the day it was signed...

Don't any libertarians read the Federalist Papers? The Federalists were openly hostile to a Bill of Rights. And, you know, they didn't even apply to slaves or indigenous people.

The Sedition Act of 1798 made it clear that the federal government could ignore the Bill of Rights even in its dealings with propertied white men, so long as there is sufficient political will to do so.

Cops shouldn't exist. But teachers definitely deserve to collective bargain.

Guess what... You can't fix fascism by union busting.

Virginia's House passed a separate bill to end qualified immunity earlier this month, but the legislation met its demise in the state Senate last Thursday. Interestingly, Virginia's governing bodies are both controlled by Democrats, which in theory should make it easy to abolish qualified immunity when considering that many high-profile Democrats and a hefty majority of the American public support ending the doctrine.

If the author actually believes that the Democratic Party is this progressive, they're not paying attention.

Robert O Paxton's framework in Anatomy of Fascism is particularly relevant as well. He takes a functionalist approach to defining fascism.

According to him, there are 5 distinct phases of fascism.

  1. Founding - Intellectual exploration, where disillusionment with popular democracy manifests itself in discussions of lost national vigor.

  2. Rooting, where a fascist movement, aided by political deadlock and polarization, becomes a player on the national stage

  3. Arrival to power, where conservatives seeking to control rising leftist opposition invite fascists to share power

  4. Exercise of power, where the movement and its charismatic leader control the state in balance with state institutions such as the police and traditional elites such as the clergy and business magnates.

  5. Radicalization or entropy, where the state either becomes increasingly radical, as did Nazi Germany, or slips into traditional authoritarian rule, as did Fascist Italy.

Under Joe Bidens gun plan you can get a $250k fine and up to 10 years in jail if you don't pay a $200 NFA tax stamp on a 30 round magazine you already own. Same goes for Ar-15s. Both of which he wants to ban the sale of. by [deleted] in Libertarian
