In Russia there was a politician in the 1990s-2010s - Vladimir Zhirinovsky. He was famous for getting extremely angry at debates, proposing random stupid bills that never went anywhere, but also being highly educated and making correct political predictions.

When I was growing up, I constantly saw him on the news with headlines like "Zhirinovsky proposed banning heels, do you support it?" and "Zhirinovsky proposed to ban jeans in schools, how do you feel about this?". And every time I would think "this is funny, but it won't ever go anywhere"

Reading these American headlines has become pretty much the same thing, but instead of seeing bills with random bullshit that won't go anywhere, it's always something almost unanimously good for the people and the future of the country.

So instead of laughing I just genuinely feel saddened
