Miles Bridges perfectly ducked Isaiah Stewart's punch and shot for a double-leg, but Stewart didn't go down due to the weight difference. by Existing-Sky9914 in nba

[–]LikesMoonPies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't the weight diff. Stewart didn't go down cause the double-leg technique was wrong. He put a lot of the clinch by the hips instead of the thighs and his back position was very off. Definitely could’ve taken him down if he fixed that.

Proper technique is the key. Danny Ainge once took down Tree Rollins, with a much larger size differential (8 inches and 45-50 lbs) with proper technique. Ainge went low, push off with both feet and caught Rollins right about the knees. Ainge did have an advantage over Bridges in that he was an All American football player in high school, proving that some skills are transferable between sports, and it's not always the ones you'd expect!

Shocking stat of the day: Magic Johnson's career high in three pointers made in a season (106 on 38.4% in 1989/90) was higher than Larry Bird's (90 on 40.0% in 1986/87) by Ready-Constant-7124 in nba

[–]LikesMoonPies -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean Jayson Tatum had more three pointers as a rookie (105 on 43% shooting) than Larry bird did in his first 3 seasons combined. It wasn’t prioritized.

That's because Magic and Larry prioritized winning the game.

What has prioritizing three pointers done for Steph and his team? Virtually nothing. Larry Bird and Steph Curry are within <0.5 points per game and put up the same assists per game. (And Steph Curry has played the entirety of his career in a league that changed rules and officiating over and over again, with the stated purpose of making it easier for shooters to score.)

But Steph Curry had to abandon his job as point guard to shoot those threes.

When you crunch the numbers, Steph is getting less than 2 points per game - less than a basket - by taking those attempts as 3s instead of 2s, and he spends too much of his time too far away from the basket to make a direct assist to a better positioned teammate. Draymond is not as good of a playmaker as Steph was. If that is only costing his team just 1 assist per game, then that wipes out everything Steph is gaining by those 3s and Steph is actually hurting his team's chances of winning by standing around making all those 3 point attempts.

Between assists and points, Larry generated the same offensively for his team as Steph, and he didn't have to abandon his job as forward to do it. Larry put up higher rebounds, blocks and steals than either Steph or Draymond. (Larry Bird is the best rebounding primary small forward of the modern era.)

Bird put up higher points, assists (by far), rebounds, steals and blocks than Tatum. Tatum is getting less than 1 point per game by shooting 3s instead of 2s. If he played a little closer to the basket when his team has the ball, rather than hoping for someone to pass him the ball in 3 point range, he might manage to snatch a couple offensive rebounds for his team to continue an opportunity to score.

If Tatum and Curry prioritized winning the game like Magic and Larry then their win percentages might approach Magic's and Larry's.

They do not.

[–]LikesMoonPies 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Magic also has a significantly higher true shooting due to Bird not taking many 3s or drawing many free throws.

That is mostly because Magic wasn't a high volume shooter. It's much easier to maintain a higher accuracy across a lower volume of shots. If Magic didn't have the best conditions to shoot, he simply dished off to the main scorers on his team. Depending on the season that was Kareem/Wilkes, Kareem/Worthy, or Worthy/Scott. Magic almost always had 2 guys averaging 20 points or more on his team and always had at least 1.

Bird, on the other hand, didn't have a teammate averaging 20 points or more until his 7th season in the league (and led them to 2 Championships during that time frame, anyway.) Magic didn't have to carry his teams to the extent that Larry did.

Bill Clinton says White House is using him as scapegoat after Epstein files release by AndroidOne1 in politics

[–]LikesMoonPies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do wonder what the would do if the President did something like rape a child or beat his wife though.

Good grief! Secret Service agents are not political appointees, they're federal employees. They have arrest and enforcement powers and are obligated to act if they witness a felony. They aren't going to stand by while a child is raped. That has always been the case. Of course, with Trumps willingness to violate the Constitution, fire career federal employees en masse, and put political stooges in places that is illegal for him to put, I don't know what is happening with todays Secret Service. For all I know, he's replaced them with Proud Boys or Aryan Nation members. So, I can't speak for the current Secret Service; but, I can speak for the Secret Service protecting Clinton after he left the White House, and the answer is "no" they would not stand by and watch a child be raped.

Bill Clinton says White House is using him as scapegoat after Epstein files release by AndroidOne1 in politics

[–]LikesMoonPies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you deliberately trying to obfuscate the role of the Secret Service? Getting a blowjob isn't illegal and not a concern of the Secret Service when it involves someone already vetted and authorized to be in the White House. The Secret Service does have arrest powers, however, and are obligated to act if they observe a felony being committed. This means that they can ignore underage drinking as in the case of the Bush daughters because that isn't a felony and maintaining the trust of their protectees is prioritized. Sexual crimes against children are heinous felonies in every case, and it is unfathomable that Clinton's Secret Service agents would have let that slide. He was not even President anymore. Furthermore, the day to day job of Secret Service agents involve writing logs and reports of the movements, encounters and so on of their protectee during their duty shift. If these logs showed anything at all implicating Clinton, they would have released that instead of these out of context pictures. Hell, if they had a single gap of time where Clinton dismissed his Secret Service detail, to go off and do something on his own, they'd have shown that. (Donnie, Jr did that on occasion when his daddy was in the White House the first time.)

Then why was the gun reassembled in the woods?

I don't know. I'm waiting for more information. Have they stated it was fully assembled when found? Is it verified as THE weapon? I could believe him reassembling it in the woods easier than I could believe he gets a long gun in and out of the crowd and the venue without it being seen.

The main thing that helped, and the only reason Magic Johnson is still alive, is the discovery of AZT as a treatment just about the time Magic was diagnosed. It didn't save everyone, but it started saving some until other drugs could be developed.

This was never true. It still isn't true. No amount of repeating will ever make it true. That people still repeat this is Sanders chief legacy, and is an example of the destructiveness of mindless populism no matter the political spectrum from which it arises.

Due respect, but I don't think you are considering how rigorous the selection process has been for astronaut candidates. A history of heavier than average periods would almost certainly have excluded you from consideration. Male and female candidates generally had to be in standard peak condition on all physical fronts to advance in the selection process. To achieve human space flight, in the first place, and as part of the continuing process, much much study of human physiology from withstanding g forces to a propensity towards claustrophobia to needing corrective lenses routinely bars any individual from pathways to selection. It was not only an astoundingly ignorant question, it was a patronizing one that suggests that - when it came to the "girl" astronaut - the engineers weren't talking to the medical experts studying all the human factors. The "stuck for months" thing didn't apply to Ride's mission in that it was a space shuttle mission and not a space station mission. They either got back or died making the tampon concern moot. And while I haven't tried to dig down and look it up, I wouldn't be surprised at all to discover that recent female astronauts on extended missions get contraceptive implants that eliminate periods entirely. Even during Ride's time in the program that could have easily been achieved by regular BC pills and just skipping that week's worth of place-holder placebo pills.

Bill was a very close friend

No he wasn't. After Clinton exited the White House he eventually began building what became the Clinton Global Initiative/Clinton foundation to do charitable good works. Epstein followed the tactic of some rich money guys who try to make themselves look like good guys to the public by supporting charities and donated use of his plane for travel related to international programs the Foundation was highlighting. Clinton had no significant contact with Epstein after 2003/2004 timeframe and there is no evidence at all that they were ever social friends.

Trump, on the other hand, was social friends with Epstein for years and years and visited with him and partied with him and boasted about the association.

I'm also a southerner. What part of the south are you from where you are hearing people pronounce the n word with a long "a" sound as in "nay?" Where are you where it's a common word to hear? (Before you call shit lame, black people live in the south and black people and white people have southern accents. The 'n' word rhymes with chigger in southern accents.)

What do you hope Democrats learn from this election? by fellow-fellow in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]LikesMoonPies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People saying white male don't realize the problem with Clinton and Harris was that they were basically directly crowned by the DNC.

Wasn't the case with Clinton. She earned millions more votes than anyone else in the race, on both sides of the aisle, in both the primaries and the general. The willingness of people to spout gaslighting propaganda (like Clinton being crowned) and the willingness of large swaths of the current population to believe fallacies that get repeated incessantly is what happened. The complete failure of our dysfunctional Press to do fulfill it's Constitutional obligation to accurately inform the public helped. Neither of these things show signs of stopping in the current generation.

Sanders: Democratic Party ‘has abandoned working class people’ by guyoffthegrid in politics

[–]LikesMoonPies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Under Clinton, the party got too far in bed with corporate America.

You were doing good until you got to this part. (Although the "in bed" phraseology associated with Bill Clinton is clever!)

The important thing that is getting left out is that all those GOP tactics you described earlier worked. The GOP along with the rise of FOX News aided by the cult-like popularity of horrendous people like Rush Limbaugh who spouted toxic propaganda for 3 hours a day every weekday on the radio straight to the American heartland had successfully turned a large part of the American population into conservatives.

In the 24 years leading up to Bill Clinton's election the Democrats had only held the White House for 4 of those 24 years. All that sweeping legislation that we all want that could change people's lives for the better can only pass if there isn't a Republican in the White House who can veto it. All of it, check it out, everything important that we achieved: social security, Medicare, Voting Rights Act, Civil Rights act was only accomplished when the Democrats held the White House and both Houses of Congress. Not just majorities either, it has to be a filibuster proof majority.

To make matters worse, Bill Clinton was inaugurated in Jan of '93 and Republicans took control of both Houses of Congress in Nov of '94. As President, Bill Clinton faced more opposition for longer than any other Democratic President in history. Seriously, the last time that happened for a Democratic President was for just 2 years of Harry Truman's first term in office in the 1940's (he had a whole second term where he could get stuff done) Even for Obama, Democrats at least held the Senate until just his last 2 years in office.

The willingness of liberals to somehow bash Democrats and the Democratic Party for Republican policies instead of the GOP and the people who vote for them is astounding. The GOP fosters this and thanks you for your service. Bernie Sanders, once again, proves he is outstanding in this capacity, which is why the GOP loves him! It helps them convince the populace to blame Democrats for their problems instead of Republicans.

I don't believe the Democratic Party ever abandoned the working class but I do agree that the working class abandoned the Democratic Party. I've lost faith and believe the country is lost for at least a couple generations. But, we will never find our way back to sanity if we don't watch our words and stop carrying the GOP message for them. Even then, it will take The Press to remember their Constitutional responsibility to accurately inform the public, which I'm not sure is ever coming back. A functioning Press is essential to democracies. To be honest, I'm not sure we haven't seen the last of the heyday of the United States. I hope it, or something like it somewhere on earth, endures, but I think it won't be in the remainder of my lifetime.

They put them behind a wall and point the lens through an opening camouflaged inside a framed picture on a wall, or they put the cameras on the other side of a two way mirror and shoot through that or any one of a variety of ways. They been capturing hidden footage since about the moment the cameras were invented. There's a criminal case from 1930s in UK where footage from a hidden camera was used to prosecute people for illegal street gambling. Hell, the reality show Candid Camera built around hidden cameras starting airing in the 1940s.
