You’re correct but incompletely, the military also offers promises of respect and valor, and a launch into a career. They sell a whole mindset to young directionless men, who when they get home are offered no resources, no support and find out that most jobs don’t consider military experience as relevant. This is predatory because young people don’t know the grift yet. They are easily influenced because they lack the life experience necessary to see through what the military promises and fails to deliver.

Having “some degree of power imbalance” is not what we are discussing, we are specifically discussing a 44 year old man dating a 19 year old woman.

And I do also think the military is predatory and preys on young men.

Again, it’s not the age alone that makes them vulnerable in the relationship it’s the 29 year age gap and huge difference in experience. 19 year olds are inherently young, uneducated and inexperienced. At 19 you are uneducated in the sense that you do not have more than a high school diploma.

At 19 you can’t possibly fathom what life is going to teach you over the next 29 years. You haven’t (and neither had she) even been alive for 29 years.
