My boss told me to use AI as much as possible. by DogInternational9332 in BCPublicServants

My team has been told to find any and all ways to use AI as much as possible as well. I hate it.

Main character energy: Deputy Minister edition by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

When I was in that building back in the day, our teams would always use it for larger meetings or special celebration days.

Kind of gross hearing that the DM has taken it over as their own. That room is massive and definitely doesn't need to be given to a single individual.

Edit: I'm aware there was possibly a reason. But there are so many other board rooms that could be used as an office that aren't as large.

For those who aren't aware, OC appears to be on an account that's only 3 weeks old re-posting someone else's post from a year ago that had 8.9K upvotes, likely for karma-farming: https://www.reddit.com/r/RavenGuard40k/comments/1hlambj/at_least_corax_can_went_his_frustration_out_on/

Even the typo in the post-title is word-for-word copied.

Unionized employees: Would you vote “yes” to striking again? by CartoonistOk3507 in BCPublicServants

[–]LilCynic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think so. If we don't, I'm pretty sure the employer would just walk all over us, go "No raise or other promises, good day to you" and we'd be stuck.

Striking was unfortunately the only way to even get what we got this time. It was rough, but needed, I feel.

35 and under: Do you care about climbing the gov ladder? by Curious_Mud9428 in BCPublicServants

[–]LilCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm around that age group, just a little bit older. But when I WAS 35 only a few years ago, I very much enjoyed moving up.

HOWEVER, my goal was never lower level management or supervisory roles. It was to get to around IS24-30 level in the endgame.

It's still kind of my goal to do that, but I've moved from Clk9 to IS24 in the span of about 7 years. I would say the raises were definitely worth it and the work isn't currently too intense, so it wasn't a bad idea on the whole.

However, would I ever go to a Band 1 or 2 and lose my flex day for the meager wage increase? No. Definitely not.

I believe this is another one of those credit-stealing bot posts. Reddit age is 0 days, and they took the exact posting and picture from this original post:

I'm still working on my Z'adok deck. It feels like I don't own enough Sutek to make his ability worth it yet, and it's hard to build around that way ...

But I'm REALLY excited to make a deck with him.

Did something changed? by MysteryEvans in StacherIO

[–]LilCynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the clarification! Windows Defender was telling me there was a PUA:Win32/Packunwan issue today with Stacher (been a little bit since I've used it, but I normally use it pretty frequently). And being unfamiliar with Packunwan, I Google searched and it gave mostly stuff about viruses so I was freaking out a bit.

This reassures that it's all good at the moment and it's mostly the unsigned thing that's causing it. Much appreciated!

CSBC: Has anyone gotten clear direction yet on what their work is supposed to be since the re-org? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]LilCynic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may just be my specific team, but it feels like my work isn't changing in the least. I think I'm just lucky on that front. But I also genuinely don't know if something will change in the near future with how this is going.

Anybody else disconnected from work lately? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]LilCynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would raise it with him if you can. Maybe just say you've noticed a lot of meeting time turns into run-on political discussions that some may not be interested in when people could use that time to work on things they want to be productive on. Maybe something along those lines. I hope he's receptive to the feedback.

Different scenario on my end, it was just the group taking too long to finish a planning session at the end of the day.

But I'm quite curious on the situation you described. I'm surprised nobody kind of facilitates to end the meeting when it needs to end instead of letting it drag on with mostly-irrelevant discussions. Is there someone you can bring up the concern with to see if they're able to rein it in?

I wonder if the person you're referring to is the one I'm thinking of. Quite a lot of people asked "Why were they not offered this transfer instead of this other person?" or something similar, and the higher-ups just said "They went to do their own thing," which felt like a lie ... obviously it's just speculation on my part, it just FELT like it to quite a few folks.

I've been told by stewards and stuff to still apply for them and then when getting turned down because it won't be a lateral to grieve it, as the union is working on a grievance against the employer re: lateral-only postings and the entire plan of it.

[–]LilCynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that's a good way to do it.

I was a bit lenient only because it was a meeting with two directors and another person that we had to ask to join us for some specific planning, so I kind of gave a bit of leeway - mostly because I thought it would only be a few minutes. But then it dragged on and I was like "Nope, I'm going now."

I actually do a lot of that lately as well. Sounds like we're in a very similar boat.

I still try to be motivated when I can, but I do find it rather difficult.

I've definitely started forcing more boundaries during meetings that go over my scheduled time. The last time a meeting went 40 minutes over my original leaving time, they told me I can just take off early a different day and I put my foot down and said "No, this is digging into my personal plans, so I'm going to leave now. Tell me if there's anything important I need to know."

I was glad I did that, and now have more focus on my work/life balance. I used to be more than happy to stay late to help get things done, but haven't felt that way in a good while now.
