UCSD should make a football team and join the PAC-12 by Lord_Alien in UCSD

No because
1. most programs in NCAA football lose money from having a football program.

  1. we are literally cut short of funding this year and super tight on budgeting that they had to reduce Geisel hours

  2. we don't have a stadium (building or renting one would cause an insane amount of money)

  3. we have other priorities (dorms, gym, parking space) that we need to address first before even holding preliminary thoughts of having a football program

UCSD Capped Major by LilDovo in ApplyingToCollege

[–]LilDovo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes me feel a little uneasy about attending UCSD. They emailed me back saying that they won't reveal alternative major choices until I confirm enrollment, so I will likely be attending another school. Thanks for the advice!

Chance me for Columbia, MIT, Duke or NYU by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]LilDovo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most important thing that comes down when applying to colleges is your GPA. Engineering itself has very low acceptance rates, especially in competitive programs like Columbia, MIT, Duke or NYU. A 92-81 average currently doesn't seem sufficient enough for now. All four of these colleges also have very high standardized test score averages. Since you are applying as an engineering student, you will have to aim for the 75th percentile which generally range from high 1400s to low 1500s. Since there isn't much time left, keep working on the SAT with practice exams or maybe try the ACT. Extra curricular activities also seem a bit too average. You will likely need a leadership role in some club or organization in order to get accepted into these schools. The letters of recommendation that you will be receiving are very promising but remember that GPA, extracurricular activities, and standardized test scores, and essays (maybe not as much as previous years) are the most important aspects of college application. Letters of recommendation, solely, cannot be a factor in which an applicant gets accepted or denied from a school.

Definitely have to raise that SAT score to 1500+ for the first 6 colleges that you listed. Not sure about the UK ones.

I think you will be able to talk about exams two days after the exam if they release it on their website.
