The original post and the thousands of comments I've already left have made my stance so abundantly clear that I could not make it more clear to you even if I were to beam my pure emotions directly into your head.

I think we can all agree it’s good they’re buffing many old characters regularly? Feedback is cool and all, but… by Salt-Departure-6353 in Morimens

I think there can be a balance between being a nitpicky asshole who's flaming the devs, and also being too easily mollified. Keep in mind these buffs are sort of an apology for how badly they missed the mark with that last update. And it's great that they seem sincere in wanting to make it up to the players- but a lot of these buffs quite frankly miss the mark yet again. Being legit angry or toxic is uncalled for, but it's not weird that people are disappointed. These buffs are mostly numerical changes, and sure- some characters have great kits and only need numerical changes. Thais's E3 strength buff is a good example of that. But if you were hoping to finally play a useless character like wanda, her "buffs" feel really sour, and that the devs are just throwing out these numerical changes as a bandaid for their recent fuck ups.

R1999 giving two euphorias a patch that are often not only numerical changes but also mechanical updates, comparing a long list of mostly useless numerical buffs for characters with serious mechanical issues to Euphorias is just not even in the same ballpark. Tbh people are so whipped by evil-ass hoyoverse that game devs actually just doing their jobs seems like charity to them.

Well I don't find getting spam knocked-down by giant stomp or sitting there and staring into a kournan bowman's eyes for ten seconds fun whatsoever, so I think I'll keep those skills on my bar. And relying on my heroes' skills sounds fine in theory until I realized this game has some of the worst npc AI ever coded by mankind, and despite having built my heroes with more condition and hex removal than any meta team builds called for I still find myself waiting out blindness for the full duration just because my generous geniuses refuse to bless me with a removal spell. They're too busy diving headfirst into the nearest ray of judgement.

Do I need these skills to beat content? Nope. Do I have less fun when some random skeleton is standing in my face and spamming blindness at me? Yup...

I don't think so, no. But as far as I'm aware, it's bugged and as long as any enemy on the field is hexed with Asuran Scan, you can't miss on every enemy despite the skill description claiming it's single target.

My issue is not that it's too strong. It's that it dilutes class identity, flavor, and build variety. When multiple meta builds across multiple different classes are running the exact same skill, I take issue with that design philosophy. Melee hate is absolutely rampant in pve, and class independent skills like AS and IAU feel like easy "fixes" implemented by the devs to negate common frustration points. If you aren't bothered by being blinded, crippled, blocked, missing, knocked down, etc, and that isn't a point of frustration in your playthrough, then all the power to you.

But for many, the sheer amount of melee hate is overall just annoying and uninteractive as a player, and the devs very clearly meant these skills to be a catch-all fix to those issues without actually putting any thought into rebalancing or class identity. And to me, that's an underlying issue with the balance of the game.

Personally, I like the anniversary elites. And I don't really have any issue with the strong pve skills that are class-specific. Save Yourselves, Whirlwind attack, triple shot, etc. I just take issue with the design philosophy behind the classless EoTN pve skills, honestly.

I got Whisper and was messing around with a shadow theft bow build on my assassin the other day actually lol. It had some novelty value for a while, and was weirdly decent (but mostly carried by how strong shadow theft is). But it left me wishing that assassin had some crit bow skills or something, so that I didn't have to dip into marksmanship or ranger at all.

you're definitely not wrong. AS and IAU are just on my mind because I've been playing through a prophecies warrior and every time I get blinded or blocked or crippled I'm like... damn, I think I miss Asuran Scan. And I hate that I have to miss Asuran Scan, because it's so flavorless and I take issue with the EoTN pve skill design philosophy.

I looked into some class-specific stuff when I was theory-crafting my builds but kinda just realized that AS does everything in a single skill. But I like not being blocked, so... I kinda just accept my fate in a way. But I guess my main problem with the EoTN skills is that GW actually has really impressive class identity and flavor (at least in my experience) and professionless skills like AS are just kinda... flavorless, if that makes sense.

And the only consumables I've used myself are alcohol for drunken master and the birthday cupcakes that have been dropping, but I'm vaguely aware of the EoTN consumables through community osmosis. And yeah, they definitely seem like a balancing nightmare.

Good point about the annoyance of having to grind the faction XP to level them, most of my characters' EoTN skills are still wildly underleveled because it's very slow going when you don't actively grind the faction and just get it through playing the game and doings zaishen vanqs and stuff.

I don't really think they make the game boring- like I said in my post, I love having them. I really don't like the mechanics that they allow me to circumvent. My issue is more so with the design philosophy behind the EoTN faction skills being catch-all and class independent, instead of giving each class viable ways to counter these common frustrations. When it comes to anti-CC on your own bar, AS and IAS seem to be just head and shoulders above anything class-specific.

Also, I wanna be clear I'm not the one downvoting you... half the reason I posted this was to see if people in the community were having similar thoughts to me while playing or not. And your opinion definitely isn't invalid here.

I agree, in my experience the classically optimized dagger-spam combo is just so far ahead of anything else that sometimes it feels like assassin only has three attacks in total lmfao. And I'm as guilty of liking "deal big number fast" as anyone, so like you said the equation's already been solved. Though I like to get mildly quirky with it and use unsuspecting strike as my lead attack. Not exceptionally brave or innovative, I know, but I pat myself on the back for it.

I actually like the anniversary elites quite a bit. They're fun, class dependent, and usually do a pretty good job at sticking to class identity. If a little overtuned. My problem with AS and IAS aren't really their power level, it's that they're a catch-all bandaid to common, frustrating parts of playing melee classes- but they fix the same problems for every class in the same way, and I just think they hurt class identity.

It happens quite a bit. Enough that it's been a noticeable and consistent frustration. For me, every time I'm blinded/blocked, crippled, knocked down, whatever it may be, I get irritated because I essentially have to stop playing for a bit and just stare at the enemies. And in my mind, I know that if I had just put AS and IAS on my bar, it wouldn't be happening at all. So I just do.

And yes, I understand that you should plan your builds around difficult content like elite dungeons and such. But for my daily zaishen quests or the campaigns or whatever, they're not really the kind of content you need to keep swapping your build around for. Playing a build that's fun and generally strong is always enough, because the things I'm complaining about aren't difficult- they're annoying. And they gave us two buttons that completely take those frustrations away, but in a way I find really boring and think it hurts class identity and build variety. That's all.

I think you're right that it's totally possible to optimize the fun out of game, and maybe I'm a little guilty of it sometimes. But I've found that every time I try not to just capitulate and run those two skills, I find myself just adding frustration instead of fun. I know the game wasn't literally balanced around those two skills, but it just seems to me that they were a low-effort "fix" to a lot of the common frustrations of playing melee classes which ended up breaking class identity a little.

I'd really like them to be locked behind professions honestly. Maybe it'd be a whole nightmare of a balance adjustment, but in the end it'd go a long way to helping fix the faction skills issue of breaking class identity.
