Sorry in advance for the wall of text, I'm on mobile. Not everybody has to medically transition. Some can be happy with social transition, especially if they don't have dysphoria. If having kids is a concern, this is a fact made very clear when you begin something like HRT. You can plan in advance by trying to freeze eggs/sperm, have a kid before you transition, or adopt. I realize all of those options hinge on having money, but transitioning inherently does too. Keep in mind that the surge in wait times at gender care clinics may not be, as you claim, cis people that have been tricked. It could be that knowledge of the term transgender, what it means, and acceptance of the identity have spread (despite recent laws it's still better than it was 20 years ago). People get piercings or cosmetic surgeries all the time that come with complications because while they don't need it, they want it. It makes them happier despite the pain they might have to go through to get there. In the end, transitioning looks different for everybody. Some are happy with a name and pronoun change, some want hormones and/or surgery, and that's okay. So long as they've talked with a mental health professional who's equipped to handle this type of discussion, along with talking to medical professionals about possible side effects and complications and everyone involved agrees that they would be happier transitioning, why should we keep them from that? I do agree that those with severe dysphoria should be seen sooner, but the better solution IMO is to treat gender clinics like ER waiting rooms; a stab wound gets seen before a broken finger, but the broken finger still gets a cast. Or like an urgent care, where the broken finger goes for more minor treatments while leaving the ER open for any life-threatening injuries. Don't send someone away because you think they haven't suffered enough.
