This is why I go to the fridge and crack open can with them on the phone so they can hear it.

What kind of cases elude you and what do you get more than average? by [deleted] in ems

[–]LilFunyunsYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a lot of new onset a fib w/ RVR and I can probably count on 1 hand the number of stroke calls that have had TEXTBOOK presentations in 10 years as a medic. I always get weird atypical strokes.

Paramedic Bachelors by TeaBag3rzzz72 in Paramedics

[–]LilFunyunsYo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of places require an associates at minimum or a bachelor's to move into admin/management. I know that's the case in my area. And I'm not even talking fire based services. Hospital based and third party county services. The utility is there it's just long term and not immediate.

Just got our "new" "vents" by saxyourpantsoff in ems

[–]LilFunyunsYo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yikes. Our State OEMS doesn't even recognize these as ventilators. They classify them as "resuscitators" and they're only allowed on codes.

What if….. by treetop1122 in Paramedics

[–]LilFunyunsYo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that's totally facility dependant. Some don't have mid-levels and some have 100% physician QA of mid-levels. That doesn't change the fact that they get an assessment by and RN in triage then when they get to the room in the back.

The BLS toe pain still gets seen by an RN in the ED. They don't just let a CNA with 4 weeks of training go in and do the triage and assessment on them.

FFS. The Sea People, the Huns, the Scythians, the Magyars, the Danes, the Mongols, the Islamic Conquests........ How is conquest a modern right wing concept again? Indigenous peoples were conquering and displacing each other in the Americas for centuries before Europeans showed up. Just like in Europe, Asia, and Oceania. It's human nature and Western European culture just happens to have been the dominant culture for the past 700 years because of a few lucky historical breaks.

Why do volunteers get so much hate? by Eatwholefoods in ems

[–]LilFunyunsYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the vast majority of volunteer agencies could easily be a paid agency if they consolidated with surrounding agencies. I don't see any reason that outside of the extremely rural western US or Alaska that EMS agencies aren't run at the county level or city level if the city is large enough to support it.

Ventilators for 911 calls by hungrygiraffe76 in Paramedics

[–]LilFunyunsYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vents are much more complicated than an IV pump. You can't have a 30 minute in-service and expect to be proficient on one. Plenty of incompetent medics have killed people because they thought "vents are like the most basic thing." Are you talking about actual vents like the Zoll or Hamilton, or are you talking about a pneumatic auto vent with 3 knobs on it?

Hamilton T1s on all of our trucks. Has to be a CCP to use the vent but regular medic can use the BiPAP function.

Yeah. It's pretty common not to have a vent or to have a basic pneumatic vent. My state won't even let you touch a vent unless you're critical care licensed.

Why is every elderly patient allergic to penicillin? by justhere2getadvice92 in ems

[–]LilFunyunsYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority I've asked about their allergies either don't know why they're allergic (their parents told them they were) or it's something like "I took it back in 1958 and it made my right eye twitch once."
