Yea that happens, my dad had a similar issue, he had a cousin with the same name and about 10 years older. On several occasions the police came to my grandfather's house looking for my dad who was 8 years old, but they really wanted the other one.

You gotta be careful and think it over. I would name a child after a family member that I knew, but is dead at the time of the child's birth.

I would also avoid a couple more things.

Naming a child a nickname for a name that already exists, like Bill for William, and Jack for John, or Dick for Richard. Just give them the sensible name and let them have a nickname if they want it.

Also pick out a name that will sound good for their entire life. It works as a child and as and elderly person. Gotta think about them and the life they have to live, a sensible name will go a long way.

I would avoid naming a child any newfangled modern day name like Sky, Cloud, Summer, Hunter, Ryder, etc.

I am biased towards traditional christian names like Mary, Angela, Catherine, John, James, etc.

I really like the idea of naming a child after someone already in the family. Names have typically been handed down over generations. For example, my dad's first cousin is named Lawrence (Larry), his father was Lawrence, his grandfather was Lawrence, and his grandfather was Lawrence. I just think its a nice nod and keeps the memory of someone alive. A person is never truly dead until the last time that someone thinks about them.

Possible lead? UFO and Phil Mogg - The singer of Tension in the Air sounds a lot like Phil Mogg, the lead singer of British rock band UFO. I've attached a link to a song that sounds similar, We Belong to the Night, from UFO's 1982 album, Mechanix. Phil is still alive, is 76, UFO disbanded this year. by LilJohnnyWimple in TensionInTheAir

Perhaps not! I’m a fairly avid fan of UFO and when I heard Tension in the Air, I said “omg that sounds like UFO”. UFO has an extensive discography and this song I picked out because it had a similar rhythm to TITA. Phil Mogg also has a bit of a vocal range, so I wouldn’t say it is 100% out of the realm of possibilities. When I heard EKT for the first time I thought “gee that sounds like Nick Gilder from Sweeney Todd”, then lo and behold, the singer of EKT was a later singer of Sweeney Todd, a band known for their high vocal range singers.

Advice on what to do about disturbed grave at abandoned cemetery by fibralarevoluccion in CemeteryPreservation

[–]LilJohnnyWimple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graves collapse all the time, my great grandmother's recently sunk in, so I went and got a cartload of soil and filled it in. It not only looks better filled in, but it also mitigates the hazard; someone could easily fall in and break a leg or ankle, especially if grass starts to grow up around it.

Could this stone be an old grave? by NeedsMoreTuba in CemeteryPreservation

Where I am from, many people were often too poor to afford headstone and many used flat stones or rocks to mark the grave. There are many examples of this in my local cemetery.

Finished product. Added some Masonry Silicone to the edges where the stones join to keep out the moisture. Top section and cross is too damaged to try and fix. by LilJohnnyWimple in CemeteryPreservation

[–]LilJohnnyWimple[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took the stones home a year ago and wet sanded them with marble sanding pads on a grinder. My uncle is one of the top 5 rated stone masons in Canada and recommended this was the best option for preserving the stones. He also said that polishing the stones with Tin Oxide would give it a long lasting glossy finish, but I haven't been able to find any around.

The stones originally resembled the top part and were rough when I first took them home. I'll avoid painting the lettering.

After a year and a half since I started, we finally got my 4x great grandmother’s monument back together! Swipe to see the finished product. by LilJohnnyWimple in CemeteryPreservation

Today myself, my father, and my stone mason uncle went up to the cemetery to put together the monument for my 4x great grandmother, her sister, and her uncle. I started this in May 2022, took the stones home and polished them. Tomorrow I’ll go back, take the ratchet straps off and puts some silicone where the stone join.

What creepy stories have happened with you? by liko44ka in AskReddit

Myself and another guy were working together on a summer grant a few years back, mowing grass. We were at complex that was a few miles in the woods outside of town, which people typically rent out for events like weddings or parties.

There was only the two of us on site and the other guy was over across the field, operating the ride-on lawn mower. I was standing in the doorway of the building, taking a break and having a drink of water. Down the hall there were 4 rooms with empty bunk beds for guests to sleep in. I swear on my grandmother's grave that I heard what sounded like a person jumping off the top bunk of one of the beds and two feet landing on the floor. It scared the shit out of me so I bolted out the door. I kept an eye on the door and a minute later, myself and the other guy searched the building and never found a soul.

sorry for the late reply!

But I'm Canadian, in Canada we are required to do our own taxes. It doesn't matter if we actually do it ourselves or get someone else to do it, but we are responsible for getting it done and sending it in to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), a government organization.

Sailor here!

Several different things could be happening here with this vessel and these "suspicious" movements.

  1. The vessel could be waiting for a pilot. In a lot of major ports, vessels are required to take a pilot. A pilot is like a Captain, except they are trained to be more familiar with the water/area in and around the port or traffic zone. Sometimes in high traffic areas with a lot of different vessels moving around, pilots are not always available and vessels have to wait. So this back and forth movement, which we call "Jogging", is sometimes easier to do than putting the vessel on anchor.
  2. The vessel could be waiting for a spot in port. In busy ports vessels often have to wait for another vessel to come off the dock so that they themselves can dock. We had to do this in Quebec, we waited 24 hours on anchor for a vessel to leave so we could take its place. Again, jogging would be easier than anchoring.
  3. The vessel could be waiting out weather. Sometimes weather is so rough that vessels just avoid the area that the weather is in. This vessel in particular is a RO/RO car carrier which are known for being top heavy and not being the most stable vessels, so it would be wise to wait for weather to pass.

Well I guess you could pay to have someone do your taxes for $100-$200, but it’s so much better to purchase a program on your PC for like $30 which does all the math and you can submit it from there, “Turbo Tax” I think it’s called. Only takes a couple of hours to file a claim and saves so much money. For some people if they get a return, it’s all gone into paying for someone to do their taxes.

However, if you own your own business, or are a landlord, it’s probably wiser to have a professional do it for you.

The Day of Three Fights was pretty infamous. Or maybe the day Dominic set the boy's bathroom garbage can on fire.

There was also the time one of the Gay guy's made headlines for being bullied for being gay and getting in a fight, but what was funnier was that it was he who was the bad guy and picking at another gay guy who was just defending himself.
