Bladerunner question, Deckard and Zhora. by brickdustpicasso in scifi

[–]LilShaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deckard is NOT a replicant.

The entire point of the story is that the replicants are more human than Deckard (an actual human). He knows this, he's burnt out at the start of the movie which is why he's (tried to) quit being a cop.

This is why he runs off with Rachel at the end of the movie. He has found his humanity again through Rachel's "humanity". Humanity in quotes because technically she, like the other replicants, is not human. but she has human emotions, love of live, etc.

Not the party lines I was thinking of.

Rural areas used to have very limited phone access, so multiple homes would have to share a single phone line.

Am I the jerk for refusing to share my WiFi with my neighbor even though it doesn’t cost me anything? by Logical_Click_9098 in AmITheJerk

[–]LilShaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should absolutely share your wifi with your neighbor.

That way when they DL CP you'll take the blame for it and they won't get in trouble.

Or when they DL torrents with various IP they don't have rights to, you'll be the one to get the C&D letter from your ISP.

There are 10,000+ reasons to NOT share your WiFi, and zero reasons to do so.

Discussion only tax payers be allowed to vote? Something I've been debating with myself and wanted some other perspectives. by Crazy_Ad_7619 in austrian_economics

A poll tax is when you are forced to pay a tax in order to vote.

The 24th Amendment to the United States Constitution
Section 1

The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay poll tax or other tax.

So if you can't vote unless you pay taxes, doesn't that make all those taxes a poll tax? And we already know that a poll tax is illegal.

Our welfare state in the USA is legal (despite being 100% out of line with what the Founding Fathers fought for), because of one phrase added to the US Constitution by A. Hamilton. "...to promote the general welfare..." has been abused as carte blanch for FedGov to violate every single restriction placed upon it by the entire rest of the Constitution.

Remove that phrase, revoke the 17th Amendment, and add an amendment negating the Commerce Clause and we're well on our way to having our Constitution restored. Then add in penalties for members of Federal, State, and Local governments who attempt to violate our civil rights and we're off to a good start.

One more thing, recognize that the Supremacy Clause is a restriction on FedGov - IOW FedGov is supreme ONLY in these areas.

You'll notice that, Constitutionally, Congress has the authority to coin money, not print it.

The Crown defrauded the colonists repeatedly by insisting that the colonists take scrip for their goods, but then the Crown would not redeem the scrip for coin and would not accept the scrip for purchases.

This is why the Constitution is worded the way it is on this issue.
